Love all your content Sabastian! My wife and myself will be there in September and we are staying in Firostephani. We plan on doing the Caldera hike. We got some additional advice to start in Oia early and walk back to Firostephani. Does that make sense and what time do the buses from Fira to Oia start? Maybe we just pay a taxi for speed and convience? What could we expect to pay for that taxi trip...30 euros? That way would could browse Oia for awhile before it gets to busy. Hi Hank. Yes if you want to do it in the early morning (good choice) I'd go for a cab since there are not many buses running at that time. And yes it should be around 30€ ! Enjoy the hike !

Hello what is parking like please we’re wanting to go in August and probably stay in Oia but with it being peak time we don’t want to risk hiring a car and not being able to park anywhere. Is it easier and safe to hire a ATV and park anywhere? Thanks
The cliffside towns aren't because of all the stairs. I'm mainly thinking about Oia Fira and Imerovigli. Coastal towns like Kamari and Perissa are flat, much more stroller friendly. Concerning activities for kids, there's all the sea excursions / water sports but I dont think there's anything else.

I would pick Imerovigli if you want the best views and being away from the crowd. Nearly all hotels in Imerovigli are on the hill top, yes. And they usually have porters to carry around your luggage.

We're most likely staying in Oia, but don't want to do the traditional Fira to Oia hike. Could we drive up to the starting point of the hike and park around the area to begin the shorter version of the hike? in either Fira or Imerovigli? Is this hike better early morning or closer to Sunset? Thanks in advance!
Hey Roshni ! I suggest you walk from Imerovigli to Fira, that's downhill. You could park here, there's always free spots : 36.433345767042304, 25.425575101638092. And once in Fira, there's 1 bus per hour back to Imerovigli. The Imerovigli bus stop is a 2min walk from that parking area, very convenient ! Late afternoon / sunset time would be my choice because Fira is most crowded in the morning, when all cruise passengers arrive on the island (9-11 am). Have in mind though that you can't see the actual sunset from Fira itself, because the Imerovigli hill is blocking the view. A great spot halfway between Imerovigli and Fira to watch the sunset is "The Bells of Fira" : 36.423437889757174, 25.42857135368237 Let me know if you have other questions :-)
