6:34 Last year my family and I went to Athens, Greece. Once we arrived at the airport we got into a taxi (the ones that line up outside the airport). Our drive was around 25-30 minutes and the driver charged us €100 😕 at the time we knew we were getting ripped off but just paid him to avoid conflict (he seemed feisty). The best way, in my opinion, is to pre book a car service. A) You pay in advance. B) They already know your destination. C) You don’t have to wait around as they’ll be already there waiting for you. D) You go directly to destination, no stops or transfers.
In germany a 45 taxi drive costs 80€, which is the official price. It's always crazy to me how people take taxis in other countries and dont need to pay with an arm and leg for the drive
Why u not use credit card? If you think that he cheat, with the receipt u take when u pay with credit card, u show it in tourist police, receipt has the drivers details, and you take your money back...
Hi Sebastian… first of all very big thank for your very clear exact explanation. I am not a very frequent traveler and recently visited Athens and was very anxious as my flight was due to land around 8pm. Watched so many other videos but yours was the best and then watched your video several times before travelling and I felt very comfortable after your video. All your details are so accurate from walking to Metro station to buy the correct ticket to find the correct metro to go to hotel. I felt like I could walk with my eyes closed because of your video explained every tiny tiny important information. Without your video I’d get confused and die of anxiety. Again very big thank for your support… ❤❤❤❤❤❤

This video is very useful for me. It helps me not to take the wrong metro from city to airport. I noticed many tourists took the wrong metro and they had to wait for the right metro to bring them to the airport.
This was an EXCELLENT tutorial! I’m sitting in a Dublin Hotel lobby about to go to the airport and take a red-eye to Athens and this is exactly what I needed to figure out. Step by step - PERFECTION!!
Very good information! Family of 4 arrived after 2am last monthand used Uber Taxi at 60 Euros to our hotel in Metaxourgeio. Loved using Uber Taxi in Athens as the price is pre-set and can't charge more even with tolls...
Just got back from Greece. I want to say thank you for all your videos and information! We relied heavily on your information and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you so much!!
This video is SO VERY helpful. I find it stressful to arrive at an unfamiliar airport after a red-eye flight. Knowing how easy it will be to find the Metro to Monastiraki reduces the stress of travel. Thank you very much. I subscribed because your videos are excellent.
the best from airport to city centre video on the tube that I have ever seen. if municipality administration did a video about do, surely wouldnt be better than that..
Thank you for this great video (and the other video about public transport in Athens). I'm visiting the city for a few days in June before a cruise with friends, and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get to my hotel from the airport. I just arrived in Athens and now I can't decide! Well, I ended up doing the X95 for 5,50€ into the city, since I've already experienced the Metro on previous visits. I might take the X95 again for the return...or Metro! I can always top up the ticket.
Good explanation Sebastian. But I think you forgot to mention the fixed price for a taxi from the airport to destinations within the "Flat fare taxi ring" in Athens city center.

Hi, these are quite helpful, however what about the option of suburban train from Airport to Larissa (Athens Main station). Shall appreciate if you can advise on the timings, connectivity and fares.
i thought i had watched all your videos before we went to Athens, but this one was essential & i missed it. we, too, were pickpocketed just after we boarded at Monastaraki Square. we wanted the metro that went all the way to the airport, and a woman had just said to wait for the next one. then a man said no, this one goes to the airport (it didn't, it stopped 3 stops earlier), and he practically pushed me on the train. it was busy at 7:30 in the morning & my husband had to hold the pole with one hand & the suitcase with the other. two men pushed against him while a 3rd presumably did the actual pickpocketing. meanwhile, the "friendly" man kept trying to distract me by explaining the map showing the blue line going all the way to the airport. I now believe that if i had seen this video & knew enough to wait for the train with the airplane in the window, it wouldn't have been as crowded as it cost €9 instead of €1.8, there would have been luggage racks & the pickpocters likely prefer to ride the cheaper train. My husband keeps mentioning that we could have had a very nice cab ride for the amount we lost to the pickpocketers! Nevertheless, your videos that i did watch were essential in making our trip as flawless as it was. thank you very much!

Beware of pickpockets in the metro. This night, when we arrived in Athens, one stop before Syntagma, three young men, aged 20 - 25 with beards entered and did the door blocking trick. One of them tried to snatch my wallet, but luckily I caught him. Thank you very much for your warning!

Great videos! Planning my trip to Athens in November, hope the weather will be fine and not so many big crowds and lines. One question, where can I buy the bus tickets?
Hello, I am loving your information, thank you. My friend and I are landing at 00:30 on Friday night 25 October. It would appear Metro is not an option but a bus is. We are departing from Piraeus port the following day. I viewed your areas to stay and budget hotels videos. Since we are so late arriving and it is out of season, at that time of night where would you suggest going? We are going to see some sites on our return to Athens on 1 Nov with a flight leaving at 0600 on 2 Nov so have the same question about transport and where to stay. We want to see the real Athens and are on a budget so what would you suggest, given our awkward flight times? What would you charge to give us a, say, 3-4 hour tour after lunchtime on 1 Nov? Thanks so much for all your information, it really helps!
Hi Sebastian! Love the informative video! I will be staying somewhere close to Acropoli station. If I have a flight to Santorini at 7am, what time should I aim to get to Athens airport? And what are my options to get there? Is it only taxi/Freenow since trains don’t run that early in the morning?
I recommend you arrive at the airport 2h before departure if you have checked luggage or 1h30 if you only have cabin luggage. Yes, taxi / freenow is your only option. You can also ask your hotel to arrange it for you.
Your videos are extremely helpful and well made, thank you so much!!👏🏼🤩 I found your channel because I was looking for information on luggage storage apps etc.. unfortunately you didn’t make a video on that but could anyone who knows maybe give me information? I found some pretty good places for the Athens city center area, but I actually am going to need luggage storage at the Piraeus port! The main options I can find are through the bounce app (which I never used before), also the places are all closing way too early.. does anyone know of a luggage storage at night in Piraeus port or a place that I can communicate with to wait for my ferry to arrive around 1-2 am or even at 4 am for another day.. thank so much in advance !!
Thank you for your very informative videos. I have a question: we are booked for an Air B&B on Makrygianni (a pedestrian street), can we get dropped off in front of the Air B&B? we are thinking of purchasing the airport roundtrip, but why does it indicate 90 minutes? our plan was to take the metro to our hotel, stay in Athens for 2 days, cruise for 7 days, then return to the airport 9 days later. Can we purchase the roundtrip ticket for the Metro, use it to go to Athens on day 1 then return to the airport on day 9 for $16e? thanks very much
We had a similar incident on the train to the airport.. My brother got pickpocketed on the train from Monastiraki.. wallet with Money and all cards were taken
I'm so sorry for what happened to your brother. As a greek i can confirm that there is a huge problem with safety in Athens public transport. The best thing you can do is to secure your personal belongings in your pockets untill the end of the trip.
Hi Sebi. Thanks for all the helpful info. At the ticket kiosk, when the option says "Bank Card" does that include credit cards or only bank debit cards? Thanks.
Hi Sebastian I will be in Athens for 10 hrs can you tell me in your opinion which transportation should I take to the plaka for a nice lunch and shopping and then back to the airport later that night? Would you do a taxi..or a train?
Do you know if the metro ticket booth gives change? Going to Athens next week and I only got 50 euro bills and I dont know if I should risk buying the 16 euro ticket with a 50 bill. Maybe its safer to pay with card :-?
Hi Dear, How much approximately time is taken to reach from landing place to reach X95 bus? And secondly how much time X95 takes from airport to syntagma. I will shortly go to Athens via Rayan Airline. Same day I will fly from Athens. The time b/w two landing and again departure is 6 hours. During this time, I want to go Sytgma via X95, and just see a glimpse of Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Olympic Stadium, and Prison of Socrates. And then come back to airport via X95. Is this possible? I don't need to go through immigration and submit any checked luggage. Just I need to pass through security checks.
The X95 stop is just outside the terminal, so it takes no time at all to reach it. It will take from 40 to 60min to reach Syntagma, depending on the traffic. Yes 6 hours is enough to have to quick walk in the city center. But personally I'd take the metro instead of the bus.
We are going from airport to hotel then hotel to port and then back. Is there a ticket that would cover 10 days ? Also does the ticket cover a transfer to omonia station ?
One question. My hotel is close to Thiseio metro station. If I buy a single ticket from the airport to Monastiraki for 9 euro and I change the train to get to Thiseio station, will this ticket be valid for the green metro line, or do I have to buy another ticket?
The metro stop is called "Airport". But I dont think it exists on googlemaps. So just follow the way that I showed in the video, and you will find it easy peasy.
Hi Sebastian. I want to buy round trip train ticket from the airport to Victoria station. My question is. To switch trains at Monastiraki station do I have to buy a new train ticket to ride the green lane or can I continue my journey with the same ticket? THANK YOU
Hi bro, could please let me know how much public transport fare for one person for a day, I am going to visit one day at Athens, my flight will land at the airport around 13.10pm on Sunday and will leave Athens next day on Monday at 1830pm (first week of Aug), is there any option for Sunday-Monday ticket which will valid for city center round trips and the airport. Thanks in advance. Regards
Its 4,10€ for a 24h ticket, valid for all public transport EXCEPT FOR THE AIRPORT METRO. If you want the airport metro to be included aswell, then you have to get the 3 day tourist ticket for 20€.

I'm so sorry for what happened to your brother. As a greek i can confirm that there is a huge problem with safety in Athens public transport. The best thing you can do is to secure your personal belongings in your pockets untill the end of the trip.
I have a question+ how is the experience from airport to pireus port?
Wow.. very informative..😊
Hi Sebi. Thanks for all the helpful info. At the ticket kiosk, when the option says "Bank Card" does that include credit cards or only bank debit cards? Thanks.
Yup, credit cards are fine !
Hi Sebastian I will be in Athens for 10 hrs can you tell me in your opinion which transportation should I take to the plaka for a nice lunch and shopping and then back to the airport later that night? Would you do a taxi..or a train?
I'd use the metro :-)
can you use 3 days ticket on X95 bus to airport?
Can you buy the 30 day pass at the kiosks as well? I will be in Athens for 3-1/2 weeks
Nope, not at the kiosks. Only in metro stations (any station)
Very informative
Do you know if the metro ticket booth gives change? Going to Athens next week and I only got 50 euro bills and I dont know if I should risk buying the 16 euro ticket with a 50 bill. Maybe its safer to pay with card :-?
It gives change but only coins !! So if you only have a 50, definitely use your card
Hi there! Does the 3 day ticket allow access to trams too? Thank you.
Yes it does !
Hi. Where to store luggage at the airport while going to Santorini? How much for 20 kg luggage storage for 3 days? Thanks.
I explain that at 5:34. You didnt see it ?
Thanks for the Infos ❤
We are going from airport to hotel then hotel to port and then back. Is there a ticket that would cover 10 days ? Also does the ticket cover a transfer to omonia station ?
No there's no ticket that covers 10 days. You'll have to buy separate tickets for all of that.
Yes the ticket covers transfer to Omonia station.
Hello! Is there any round ticket to the X95 Bus or i have to buy 2 separate ticket each way? Thanks!
2 separate
Are there van taxis typically waiting at the airport. For a group of 4 with luggage
Not really.
One question. My hotel is close to Thiseio metro station. If I buy a single ticket from the airport to Monastiraki for 9 euro and I change the train to get to Thiseio station, will this ticket be valid for the green metro line, or do I have to buy another ticket?
The ticket is valid for 90min from the moment you validate it, no matter how many times you change lines.
@@GreeceExplained thank you very much
Does the round-trip airport ticket cover all the way out to Pireus? Might be a silly question, but assumptions cause problems when traveling. Thanks!
Yes it does. More info regarding Athens' public transport here : ua-cam.com/video/TAuP2Gujiv8/v-deo.html

Hi ! This one : www.getyourguide.com/athens-l91/athens-airport-private-taxi-service-t18752/?partner_id=OMW3ALO&mkt_cmp=true
What is the name of the metro station near the airport? Where to enter from the airport. Can't find on the map😢
THANK YOU
You can use the same ticket, as long as you dont exceed 90min from the moment you validate it
I appreciated your message and your videos, they are very helpful to plan a trip in Greece.

Does the 9 Euro Airport to Syntagma fare also allow me to transfer to the Red Line to continue my journey or do I need to pay another fare?
Yes you can switch to other lines with the same ticket.
Hello, is it easy to get an Uber/Freenow/Taxi in the early morning around 4am to go to the airport?
Yup
@@GreeceExplainedMuch appreciated Sebastian!
if we buy turbopass with public transport, can we use it for travel from airport to syntagma metro station
Dont know what the "turbopass" is sorry
Hi. Any place to rest at the airport during long layovers?
Its a very large airport terminal with many shops and seating areas, so I dont think you'll have a problem during your long layover.
Me and my boyfriend have the landing at 10:30 p.m., can we get to the Omonia district by metro or is it closing time and we have to take the bus?
I explain the metro timetables in this video : ua-cam.com/video/TAuP2Gujiv8/v-deo.html
@@GreeceExplained thank you so much!😊
