Got mine 50 years ago as a sales incentive when I was working part time in high school for Regal Shoes. Nice rifle, runs well and it hits what I aim at.
I was given this by my father who got it from his father before him. So, luckily, my first gun was not only my father's first one but also the first one for my grandfather. I plan on passing it on to my child when the time is right. This will soon be in the hand of the fourth generation and hopefully five gens after to my grandchildren. RIP Papa
About 30 years ago every Sunday they had a turkey shoot, had to use 22 rifle with no scope winner one 10 lbs cured bacon,I had a lots of bacon in the freezer mine was definitely a tack driver literally win.190
I've got an old 290 myself.. Dad handed it down to me it's the one with the checkered stock and foregrip. Not trying to pick at you or anything but mine HATES American Eagle ammo (saw the red box). Most success I've had is with Federal Premium Target/HV Match. Both great rounds. But stay away from the Eagle, he'll swoop down and carry away your accuracy every time.
I bought my 290 Deluxe circa 1972 and it was more than $35. If you can find one for less than $100, please let me know. I did have some jamming or misfires but after a serious cleaning, works great and is quite accurate. Scoped it in at 50 yards and it shoots about a 1" pattern. Great little gun that I will turn over to our 9 year old Grandson as soon as he is proficient with his Red Rider BB gun.
The 290 in the video was a 290 base model. If my memory is correct the 290 deluxe was almost double if not a little more then double the price of a base model. On a side note my buddy picked up a 290 deluxe about 1 month ago for $160

I got one a month ago to teach my wife about rifles. So it is her first rifle.
