  • On April 18th, I put the canoe up on the car and headed out for a paddling adventure at Go Home Lake. The plan was to get to the Gibson River. On the way I had to do some portaging, wading and climbing, but I got there eventually and had an awesome day that made me almost feel like I was on a backcountry camping trip. It'll have to do for now. Hope you enjoy this weeks video!

    Have to love the North country lots to explore, Love the area around Echo Bay going to the Gibson so beautiful so peaceful. But the beaver dam's I could do without .so sad people have to be so disrespectful and leave their garbage while out camping or even hiking thanks for cleaning it up . and thank you for the canoe trip with you sure needed this .

    that's some very industrious beavers! so much easier to manage those pullovers without all the gear.... still, i know you're eager to get all your gear packed up & out on a new adventure! thanks for taking us along on your lovely little day trip.
    oh, and buffleheads are pretty darned adorable even if they're not baby loons!

      They are so cute. I’ve been watching them a lot over the past month. They do this really fun thing when they land, it’s like they slide across the water. I’ve only filmed it once but I’ve seen it over and over again since my first paddle. Super cute. I am very anxious but doesn’t look like it’ll happen soon. Patiently I wait. 😊. Cheers !

    Darn jet skis anyways. Darn beavers too...but the beavers do what they gotta do so that’s ok. But the jet skis! Beautiful place by the looks of it. The garbage...why? Glad you mentioned it. Thanks kris nice paddle...smooth water and clear sky’s for you.

    This section of the Gibson is spectacular! We camped on that site in 2020 for 4 days with our 18 month old daughter. It was paradise, but the site is small so bear proofing and bathroom trips require a significant hike up a cliff into the the forest. If you paddled just a few more minutes west (toward GB instead of taking the portage back to Go Home), you would have hit Three Rock Chute (a real highlight). Also, next time you do the portage around the Musquash dam, take the tail that cuts inland ... its much easier (and safer) then skirting the edge of the rapids ;)

    At the start of the video when you were attempting the beaver dam, I could feel myself leaning forward in an effort to help you over. Sorry, I wasn’t much help. Looks like a beautiful area, thanks for letting us tag along, I too truly enjoy the “sound of nothing”, be well my friend.

    Next time you should keep going past the big dam on the Gibson. The next portage is at 3 rock chute. But 3 rock is worth it. I'm definitely leaning on the whole moving north especially after all this craziness in that's happening right now. Go home is just over 2hrs from me and i miss being able to spend the weekends up there.

    Your so lucky to have this as your playground. I’m from Niagara and there isn’t many places to kayak that are as beautiful as up north. We try to get up to Huntsville area as much as possible but this whole COVID is making it impossible. Really enjoying your videos and trying to get caught up on them. Really enjoyed your trip to Hap and Andrea’s place. I’m reading one of his books that I won at an auction for Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. Keep up the amazing work, we need it more than ever.🥰

      That’s awesome. Which book are you reading? I have read 3 or 4 now and can recommend some others when you’re done.
      Not sure if you know my backstory? I am born and raised in St Catharine’s and moved to Muskoka five years ago to be closer to the places I love. You have lots of places in Niagara to paddle. I’m actually missing some of them. Have you done Black Creek? Lyons Creek? 16 mile creek? 15 mile creek? I have blog posts on most of them, but it was before I started making UA-cam videos when I was at those places so only write ups with pics. Google those names with Camper Christina and the blog posts should come up. Hope this helps you. 😊😊😊
      See the about section for back story and the blog is also here. The niagara posts will be in 2015. I moved here in may 2016. Cheers!

      @@CamperChristina I am reading River of Fire. I did know that you were from St. Catherine’s. I think it’s awesome that you followed your heart and moved up there.I work for Niagara Parks so as you know we are very busy through the tourist season so I don’t usually take holidays til late September or October. Which is nice sometimes as places aren’t as busy..We just do day kayak trips as I have major back issues and arthritis. I am actually afraid of water but was always curious about kayaking. Without even trying it out first my husband and I went out and bought them and love it.Its not a pretty sight with my issues getting in and out but it is my happy place.I would like to try and do a paddle in campground someday but have to find someone as my husband has no interest to do it. Until then I will keep watching inspiring people like you and learn whatever I can. There are places to paddle here but to me up north is much nicer. The air is cleaner and the scenery is much more beautiful. I will check out your earlier blogs. We prefer quiet wandering streams. I so enjoy your videos and think your a brave woman doing this tripping on your own.Thank you so much and keep having fun. As Dennis would say” Keep the adventures alive”

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much Trisha. I totally understand what you do and why you can’t take time off. Sucks though. I actually really miss the small waterways i used to paddle in Niagara.
      In Muskoka it is actually difficult to find places that don’t have cottages LOL, as they call them, on the water, accompanied by many speed boats. I still have to drive an hour and a half to get to somewhere like Algonquin to paddle like that, or further to places I love like Temagami. I think it’s great that you’re still getting out regardless of your issues.
      Have you ever taken any courses for kayaking? There are several ways to get in and out of a kayak and possibly a way that might be better for you that you aren’t aware of? I am only a basic instructor but I have taken three courses and every one of them taught me so many new things and gave me a lot of confidence and helped me with my skills. Something to think about?
      River of fire is probably my favourite Hap Wilson book so far. I was reading it while doing the Obabika Loop and it was so awesome overcoming challenges while reading of the ones Hap was facing. I’ve also met Dawson. Lol. I would highly recommend the cabin if you haven’t read that and I also really enjoyed trails and tribulations. Stay safe. Cheers!
