Thank you. It definitely wasn’t easy to make and it was something I needed to get encouragement on from a few people before publishing it. It’s not an easy topic to discuss, but I think it is one that is important and needs to be out there more. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Thank you. Stay safe. Cheers.😊

It can happen so fast, I dumped 45 deg f water upstate Ny in September, that was a real eye opener my thought was I’ll stay swallow hug shore line cross in the swallows beside an island. Well got out of the swallow we’re deep current coming around the other side of the island.17” canoe 8:478:47 it log rolled me in blink of a eye.swirl kicked out in the deep current of course rode it 200 yards by time got back to the side we’re my feet could touch bottom dumb mistake .kept my paddle and got an arm over the boat but the Susquehanna river got two fish poles n my spare paddle that day. Great video!
I’m so sorry that happened to you. Thank you so much for sharing it here with everyone. I’m so glad you made it out and you’re OK. You really never know what could happen? Thank you. Cheers.
Your so lucky to have a lake so close even though small👍 I love my dry suit. So much more comfortable than my 6mm wetsuit. Got to stay warm and cozy in the kayak!

Great video! Thank you Christina. I was aware of how very dangerous cold water is. I share a drysuit with my daughter 😃 I just ordered that digital water thermometer- thanks for the Amazon link. I have a really old non-digital one, that works but this will be more precise and it’s not expensive.
I hope it works good for you. I just started using it and I’m not sure how good it is or how long it will last? But I’ve had it on my kitchen counter and it’s been keeping the temperature in the house pretty accurately according to my thermostat. Thanks so much for commenting and checking out the video. Cheers.

A vert important, informative video! Nicely done!! Thanks. I do a lot of solo land and water trips. I purchased a See/Rescue Streamer (personal sized). When deployed it is 6 inches by 25 feet long emergency signal ribbon. In an emergency of land or water it will greatly draw attention to your location for help/rescue. It gives me comfort on knowing that I have this added safety protocol tool with me when soloing. Also wondering when you check the water temps in the future if there’s much difference in temps from shallow shore water temp, main basin surface water temp and 3 to 4 feet down in the main basin (where our body core would be if capsized). Just wondering in early season if there is a larger variance in these temperatures? P.S. If the streamer is something that you think would be good for you on your trips and your educational safety that you do. I would gladly sponsor it for you to help get more safety options out there. Thanks for your hard work! Cheers

Cheaper alternative to a dry suit: I stopped wearing a dry suit because it's hard to go to the bathroom... and the older you are the more you have to go! I now wear a dry top and a wet bottom. A skirt also helps keeping the water out of the top. Tried swimming in it and it worked well-- top dry.
I totally get that. I have colitis and I’m ‘older’ lol. I have found the more that I wear the drysuit the easier it is for me to get it on and off. In retrospect, I wish I would’ve gotten a 2 piece suit, but at the time they weren’t as reliable as they are currently. Thanks so much for commenting, and for the great suggestions. I hope that people will read the comments under the video and it will assist them in finding a good solution for them, so they can be safer on the water at this time of year. Cheers ! 😊😊😊

Dry suit is a life saver. I’ve been on most Great Lakes. I wouldn’t paddle an open stretch of Superior in the summer without one. Great video CC. 👍👍
