  • Even though I had to paddle through some ice, the ice, in general, was out. I headed to McCrae Lake the night before the trip and it was indeed passable. I went home and started packing, elated to be able to finally get my new H2O canoe on the water, and to finally be able to do a backcountry canoe trip after a long inconsistent winter. With temperatures forecast over 30ºC, I was in my glory. I brought some tasty food, a good book, and enjoyed all the signs of Spring, along with some gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. Come along with me on my first canoe trip of the season, at McCrae Lake in Ontario.

    I love the color of the canoe happy to see that you could get out for your first Spring canoe adventure, You always manage to capture the gorgeous scenery and find the nicest camp areas Looks like perfect weather as well I had an experience with a couple Beaver's they met each other from diffrent area's of the lake then swam off together, pretty cool sight as were your two. I must say love your tent light along with the peacful sounds of the peeper's , a beautiful night I feel this may be the year for you to see lots of wildlife . love love love this video and everything about it , shall watch the next part tomorrow

    Thanks for the laugh! “I just plug it in and try to use it.”
    Directions are for the weak!
    Nothing like getting that first scratch on the new canoe out of the way immediately.
    Looks like it was an awesome trip.

    Yay canoe season!! Always look forward to your trips. You are correct that loud peeping noise is an American woodcock, it sounded very close to you. Even before the peeping you can hear the fluttering of it doing it’s courtship display then they land and “meeep” Its actually really cool to watch if you haven’t had the chance keep your eyes peeled next time you hear one they will do it multiple times at dusk in early spring

      Thank you so much! I will definitely do that and I will look when up online here as well while I have a signal so I know what to look for. After that weekend, everything got quiet again and I was out last weekend and didn’t hear a peep or anywhere. I’m hoping they come back again soon and I get another chance to check this out. Thanks so much for the information for watching my videos. I greatly appreciate it. Cheers !

    Nice to have the ice out, but not yet here in Algoma. Good to see the wildlife activity. Here we've just had the pileated woodpeckers and the sandhill cranes making a racket. Always exciting to be out for the first spring venture. I am expecting the blackflies to be heavy this year in my area, something we haven't experienced in quite a long time. I want to wish you a very successful and happy season.

    The new canoe looks very sleek in the water. As always another great video full of nature and amazing scenery. You sounded like me when you said you hadn’t read the instructions yet for your lights. I always get to impatient and just go ahead hoping for the best. Lol Hope your shoulder heals quickly so you can keep doing your tripping. All the best and thank you for a great spring start❤️

    Love the waterfalls video. Been there a few times in the summer but a lot less flow. My first canoe trip of the year won't be until after I come back from Newfoundland. But I did hear my first loon on the same weekend as you! Crown Land north of Kingston.

    Hey! I love seeing that you are properly dressed for an ice-out excursion. I didn’t expect anything less from you - you rock!
    Can I suggest that you draw attention to your drysuit? I think that it’s important for people who might not recognize what you have on to be aware that ice-out paddling isn’t the same as warm weather paddling.
    (This is coming from me wearing my AdventureSmart/PaddleSmart hat! 🤣 )

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  Рік тому +1

      Hey there! Thank you so much for checking out the video, your kind words, and taking the time to comment. I have put up several posts on social media regarding the drysuit, being prepared for cold water, why I wear what I do, why the water is dangerous right now, etc etc. posts, videos and stories on all of my platforms. I have spent the last few weeks assisting people in the comments, answering messages and emails, and promoting safety as much as I can, without pissing people off and loosing followers. At McCRae I went around paddling and talked to people about being safe on the water. Unfortunately, It’s a fine line and many people, sadly MOST people don’t care.
      It would be really great if others would join in. Social media is filled with people on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, UA-cam, many with thousands or even millions more followers than I have, all paddling in cold water, and many of them not even wearing a Pfd, let alone a drysuit. It would be amazing to see people like you commenting on those people’s posts and videos, asking them why they are not promoting safety on the water and telling them they’d like to see that. Everyone needs to take part in promoting these issues. I can’t be the only one. I already have a lot of ppl on social who despise me because I am promoting water safety. Some people are even angry about it and call me names.
      I’m not sure exactly how much more I can do, but please know that I am doing the best that I can. I’m sorry if it’s not enough. I will think on ways to improve. Cheers 😊

    • @mommysews1

      I agree 100% I once got booted off a post when I continued to point out that it was irresponsible for a major local canoe manufacturer to post videos of a celebrity influencer that they sponsored out on moving water at the ice-out stage (snow covered banks) without him wearing anything more than jeans and a flannel shirt. Aesthetics appear to be more important than safety.
      Perhaps one day our paths will cross and we can have a good conversation about how to drive changes in attitude!
      Thanks for all that you do!

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  Рік тому

      So you do get it. 😊 It’s def not easy to do what I do. Thank you for mentioning what you did and understanding what I was trying to say. I have done exactly as you on many occasions. I’m glad to see I’m not alone. Thank you for that.
      Thursday, I went out on a one night trip, and as I was paddling to the campsite, I made a video about wearing my dry suit and cold water paddling as you suggested. I was hearing you out there on the water and had to do what you suggested. All I can do is continue to pass on the education and the information that I know, and hope that others will see the danger and make changes. Sometimes it is a hard hat to wear, but I have chosen to make these videos and to be an advocate for safety on the water and therefore I need to continue to pass on the knowledge and education that I have to others who may not understand or know the dangers they are facing when they’re out on the water at this time of year. Regardless of what people say to me or think about what I’m doing, for me, it is more important to be safe and save someone’s life, than look cool or be popular.
      I appreciate you saying what you did and providing me with some support. Sometimes I feel like I’m all alone and it’s really helpful to know that there are others who feel the same way I do and speak up about it. Don’t ever stop being who you are and doing what you believe in. It matters, even if no one says a word about it. It matters.

    I feel bad for H2O for loaning you this canoe. The amount of damage you put on your past canoes from them is just not ok. You should be treating these as if they are your own and not a loaner. Show viewers how to properly deal with these conditions and now not to destroy the boats you borrow.

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  Рік тому +1

      Actually, H2O wants me to use their canoes to their maximum ability and they have been sponsoring me for 5 years now. They are extremely happy with what I do regarding their canoes, as they want people to see how strong they are and I treat my own canoe the same way. 😊 Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and for checking out my video. If you need more reference or information on how Jeff, the owner of H2O, wishes me to use his canoes, please feel free to contact him. Cheers !

      @user-xk4fl8te8w I feel bad for you, clearly very inexperienced (which is fine by the way) yet unable to accept you need to learn more (and that there is the problem). Christina knows what she is doing just fine. As a matter of fact, she has on-line courses available for individuals who need to learn how to backcountry camp, like you. I would recommend taking one. Even at my age, I am constantly taking additional white water courses to increase my skill level. There is no shame in being humble enough to accept there is more knowledge to gain.

    • @user-xk4fl8te8w
      @user-xk4fl8te8w Рік тому

      @@Suluk46 I feel bad for you. You don't know me and I actually have over 30 years of backcountry experience, so compared to Christina's 10 years I would think I am well adverse in that area. I too am constantly learning but one of the first things you learn about canoe tripping is your canoe should go from "air to water, water to air". No sliding across rocks, ice, or anything else that would cause major damage. Maybe that should be something to be included in the "skills" or online course. As for pushing and testing each canoe, since Christina, you have used these for the last 5 seasons I would think that you have already pushed their boundaries and toughness, so why not be more gentle and show that you don't have to destroy or do that to the canoes and that they can last more than a season without needing major restoration as your previous ones have needed. Show the longevity of these canoes instead. Maybe then you can get use of one for more than just a season.

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  Рік тому +1

      Dear anonymous UA-cam person who only created an account to harass me:
      I am provided a canoe to use every season by H2O. They are not sent back because they are damaged, or no longer able to be used. I use a different canoe every season from them to show the different models and types of canoes they offer, different colours they provide, and the durability and strength and toughness of the canoes. They continue to provide me with boats every year because they are pleased with the marketing and advertising that I do for them, not because the canoes are destroyed or misused. That comment is absolutely ridiculous, and not even close to the truth.
      Unless you are privy to my agreement with the canoe company, or work for them, there is really no reason for you to provide this type of commentary on my UA-cam channel.
      I have been paddling for over 20 years and going on backcountry trips for over 20 years, btw, but this is of no relevance to this discussion. This is not about who knows what, or who has more experience paddling. This is only about my relationship with the people who sponsor me, and that has absolutely nothing to do with you, in any way.
      I am aware that you specifically created a UA-cam account in order to post these comments on my video, and it’s sad you had to go to so much trouble to attempt to be hurtful to someone who has done nothing to you. I feel like your time could be better spent creating UA-cam videos for people to learn how to properly use a Canoe, in your opinion. You are not required to watch my videos, and therefore you do not need to comment, or advise someone on things you know nothing about.
      In my history of paddling these beautiful canoes, only one has been damaged and has needed to be repaired, and this was due to a freak wind storm. I literally cried over it, ALOT.. and love these canoes and do everything I can to keep them safe and unharmed. I own one of the other canoes, because it was given to me as a gift to thank me for my hard work, that I am truly grateful for, and all of the other canoes I’ve paddled, have been sold to new owners without issue, or any ‘major restoration’. No idea where you’re getting your information from, but it is highly inaccurate and therefore you should keep it to yourself.
      If you want to show people how to properly use a canoe, in your opinion, please feel free to create a real UA-cam account and spend countless hours of your life going on trips and creating videos. Then you can tell your followers what you think is right and deal with people like yourself who comment when they do not know all the facts. There is always more than one way to do something, and even if you don’t think it’s correct, that doesn’t make it wrong. Best of luck with your channel @user-xk4f|8te8w! I can’t wait to check it out!
