Back To Backcountry - P1 - Buckskin Lake Canoe Trip - HHWT

- I was heading back to the Backcountry! After some minor health issues, I felt strong enough to head out for a weekend on a canoe trip and even complete a portage. Physically, I knew I could do it, but mentally I still needed a bit of motivation. After talking through my plans with my friend Jenny, and finding out most of their weekend was open, I decided on a half-and-half trip. The first half being a solo trip and the second half being joined by Jenny Tyler and their son, Aspen. It was an awesome weekend, full of so much fun and laughter and lots of epic summer moments.
I hope you enjoy the trip, as much as I did. Huge, thank you to my friends for giving me that extra push I needed.

I’m glad you are feeling better Christina. Thank you for all your amazing videos. I love watching them and have learned so much.
@@tony_camargo thank you so much Tony. I’m so glad my videos are helping you and you are enjoying them. Cheers!
Nice you are back in the canoe. 👍👍🙏
Thanks. 😊😊😊
Glad you’re out and about! Great site!
Thank you !
Looks like a nice trip so far, even with the little rain and bugs. It’s so cool when you get to see the rain coming. Looking forward to part two, I hope you continue to feel better, be well my friend.
Thanks hatch. I’m doing well. Thanks. Hope you are also. Cheers !
Awesome as always. Glad you know your body and smart enough to play it safe. I do think being out there is the best medicine as long as you go at your own pace. Glad your on the mends and doing what you love even if it’s closer to home.❤️
Thank you Trisha! 😊
I'm so sorry you had a flare. I know your pain. Antibiotics always did the same thing to me. I'm glad you were able to get out. I recognize that happy feeling when you're recovering. So happy to be alive. You amaze me.
Awe thank you so much. 😊😊😊
Wow sorry to hear of the health problems . Best to take it easy .
All good now. Thanks Alex.
Nice area to paddle. My first forway in the backcountry was in this area. Started at my Uncle's cottage on Little Kenesis Lake to Red Red Pine lake. Loved the area then, love it now. Thanks for sharing your experiences there.
Thanks Gary. It’s good to hear from you. I hope you’re enjoying your summer. Cheers.
Glad you feel better. Always entertaining to watch your trips. Your website says you are afraid of the dark. I do not know how you can do it alone like that at night. I like that you show the night time.
Thank you so much. I guess I should update my website? Lol. I suppose I have slowly overcome my fear of the dark. I have gone out repeatedly for so many years without issue, and that has built up my confidence and helped me to overcome my fear. I think I also love being out there more than I’m afraid. 😊😊😊 good to hear from you again. Cheers !
I’m so glad to see your video pop up. I needed to be “taken” along on your trip. It’s been a busy summer with work and it’s hard to believe it’s almost August. Fall trips will be here quickly.
Sorry for your health challenges. Hope you get it dialed back in. It seemed like you were doing really well before the beaver fever bought.
Thanks for the great video and wishing the best of health!
Cheers
Thank you so much for the kind words and the great comment. It’s good to hear from you. I hope you are doing well. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers.
Props to you for getting out there. Most wouldn't even make the trip if they weren't 100% I've bailed on a trips just cuz I wasn't feeling up to it. You've nothing to prove. Even a day paddle is an accomplishment. You're obviously where you need to be. 😊
Thank you so much ! 😊😊😊
Sorry to hear you were not well. So glad you are feeling better. Seems like nothing can keep you down for long. Take care and stay well.
Thanks so much Doris. 😊
Great to see you back at it C. I have done a half dozen trips when it was the Leslie M. Frost Nature Reserve and it didn't cost us a penny back in the 80's. Kevin Callan's book Cottage Country Canoe Routes has quite a few detailed trips for what is now the HHWT. Nunikani was my favorite.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I’ve done many many many trips in this area. You can find them all on my playlist on my UA-cam channel under haliburton. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers.
I was there a couple of weeks ago. That nice big rock peer is full of water snakes!!! It's probably what you saw swimming in the water :) We came in from Big Hawk Marina to make a longer trip out of it. Awesome trip/site/paddle!!!
Lol. Yes I have a video from a trip there last year watching a water snake swim to the camp site and then slithered up on the rock. I’ve camped here a few times. Cheers !
I've watched and enjoyed your films for years now, always quietly with few comments. But I just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear you've been ill and I hope you make a full recovery.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and for watching my videos all of these years. I greatly appreciate your support and it’s really nice of you to send me good wishes. I really appreciate you doing that. Hope to hear from you again soon. Cheers ! 😊
Nice campsite and peace and quiet. The way to have it. I hope to get out in August, my latest start ever. But I don't mind missing July because I can't put up with the heat. And the bush during the day is dead still, not a sound to be heard. I think my knee is well enough but neighbors worry that I might not be able to get out. But I think it's a risk worth taking. Best wishes.
I had a late start to my season as well. You always have to listen to your body first. I really hope you get out and you have a safe trip and it is peaceful and relaxing. Keep me posted. Cheers.
Heartwarming to see you back out there. My very best wishes for a complete recovery and a healthy rest of your tripping year. So many adventures to be had!! Thanks for sharing with us and the inspiration.
Thank you so much Sharon !
I am glad you are on the mend....this should be a nice relaxing trip for you!
Thank you
Thanks!

Hey nice to see you out sorry to hear what happened that isn't fun. Nice camp area I know what your talking about re the pine needles love that smell myself. Was your wee visitor a pine martin or mink?. Looks like a nice little adventure so far Christina .
Definitely not a pine Martin. Possibly a mink ? Thanks for the nice comment. 😊
i used to enjoy being " unplugged " then I broke my leg backpacking in algonquin, fortunately it was the fibula I broke so I was able to make my way out , but had it been any other injury I would have had to wait for someone to come by ... I now use a zoleo, it pairs with my cell phone so I can send and recieve messages and get weather updates and contact search and rescue , now my family has peice-of-mind when I am in the backcountry
I’m so sorry to hear about your fibula. I’m glad you made it out okay. I carry a rescue link beacon with me and when I do trips in remote areas, I file a report with the federal government. It’s only in case of extreme emergencies, which is how I like it, and thankfully, I’ve never had to use it. It’s nice to know it’s there if I need it though.
Thanks so much for checking out the video and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
ya so many simple needs met in nature, gentle awakening and peace...not getting that in an apartment.
So true. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers !
commenting as I watch the video, my guess was that critter was a martin or fisher , kinda weasely animal
Thanks for commenting. Hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers !
Looks like a fisher... yikes..
It was cool!
so happy to see your on the mend ❤️🩹
Thank you Brian.
