  • And no, we're not just talking about the price!
I've been using the Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3 since their respective launch days, and so have gotten to know the devices quite well. Along the way I've discovered strengths for each and downsides too. So how are they different? Watch to find out.

Things the Meta Quest still has over the AVP:
    1. $3000 cheaper. You can buy a Meta Quest 3 + A full body haptic suit + a VR treadmill + prescription lenses + customized straps and cases + a VR-Ready PC + high quality earphones and still have pizza money left over before you hit the price of the Apple Vision Pro.
    2. Gaming/App library. Natively, there are hundreds more games and apps for the Quest.
    3. Wireless Desktop VR connectivity. This can connect to your Steam Library and PC wirelessly with the Oculus Home platform.
    4. More comfortable, 30% lighter. Nuff said.
    5. Faster/more regular firmware update cycle. Now that the AVP is out, Meta has already vowed to close the feature gap by improving their UI to work more seamlessly, which is the AVP's biggest advantage.
    6. Less latency in hand tracking. Nuff said.
    7. Precision touch controllers included with the headset. Those who are familiar with the Quest definitely will miss those being an option with the AVP.
    8. Wireless. The AVP has wires! Why?! Why release this in that state?
There is no doubt that the AVP pass-through and the seamlessness of its multitasking is better. The fact is, though, that you can do most of the same things on the Quest 3. You can have 3 panels open at once for multi-tasking while in passthrough mode. You can watch Netflix in passthrough mode using the browser, as well as other streaming apps. The Quest has voice commands. It has widgets that stick to your AR environment. There is a lot that you can still do on Quest.
AVP is a prototype. Apple is releasing a dev kit as a final product and saying, "How's this? Is this anything?" hence the insane price. They are relying on their name to sell a subpar product that's missing major features that their competitor has for $3000 less. It's insane to think that some people are saying that this device is the first to do multitasking or passthrough. Apple fans should totally be pissed that this is being sold to them at this price. $1000 I could nod my head and understand. It'd still be high for an inferior product overall (inferior because of the ecosystem and poor design choices like the weight/ergonomics of the headset and lack of desktop VR capabilities/touch controllers/a day one game library).

Some interesting points. How many hours have you spent trying the AVP and Meta Quest 3?

@@anoraker I am a VR hobbyist. I own two WMRs, an Oculus Rift, and Oculus dev kit, all Oculus Quests, an Oculus Go, a Valve Index-I have tested the AVP and was impressed at the execution of multitasking features and the UI but not enough to spend $3500 on the headset since I mainly use MR/VR for gaming and exercise at this time. That’s basically the cost of every headset I own combined and then some. I do look forward to a day when a headset can replace a PC as a work device! We aren’t there yet. Nice video by the way! Hope you get more attention!

I definitely understand not buying it, as its priced well outside the range of what the average person should or could spend on something like this.
In the end, I don't think any headset can work as a PC device, at least not with the current tech we have. I've tried it with my Meta Quest 3, and it too falls well short of that thought.
Maybe someday when we have true AR glasses (what we have is still not good enough).
      Thanks for the compliments!

@@anorakerIf next gen’s Quest 4 has a pass through as good as AVP’s now I think we could see virtual desktop take off, and perhaps the inclusion of more productivity apps and apps that work with mouse and keyboard.

Great video. This was sorely missed in most “comparison” videos. The well known flaws of the Quest suddenly disappeared from the conversation. The problems that chased people away in droves, the dealbreakers the AVP mastered were no longer discussed. BEFORE the AVP’s release, the major barriers to VR headsets were nauseating motion sickness, slow response, the warped, distorted pass through and general blurriness everywhere when in VR. People are not stupid, they know the AVP library will grow and the price will come down, but the UI and OS in the AVP are what most people were WAITING for.

Thank you! Hope I earned a subscription! More to come on the AVP, that's for sure. I'm keeping mine ;)

I use a Quest Graphics Optimizer and i have also tweeked my pass through also my headset would be abit different from the standard Quest 3 as its fully optimziable and soon the Quest 3 won't even need eye tracking ad the are developing a wrist band to individually track each finger on that hand and the Vision Pro has no headphone jack which I would need for what I would want to use the headset for as I am a Music Producer so in my opinion to spend $3500 and not even get a headphone jack is abit of a con as apple likes to con their customers with a good looking product that is either to fragile for the high price or way to expensive for what it does compared to other leading products as the Quest 3 still is and will be the leading headset I terms of sales despite of the specs as history should tell you that even if something us more powerful or better doesn't mean it will even do well at all XR headsets do not cost 1000s they tend to cost 100s $3000 dollars more to buy something that is only 10% better than one of the headsets that i already have and the other headset I have will blow the vision pro away in terms of raw GPU power and that is the Playstation VR2 I could show you acouple of VR games on that headset the Vision Pro couldn't even run at all at that exact standard and that's fact apple should have just concentrates on VR games as the Apple Vision Pro is Quest 3 with eye tracking and slightly higher specs and no gaming or headphone jack but seems to cost 7x the amount 😂😂😂and most of its users have never used a headset before do they get super excited about standard headset features that are available o allother headsets floating windows are nothing new the Quest 2 started that software trend but apple needs to understand that most people buy headsets to game on and its as simple as that

Try the handtracking in the quest while playing synthriders

      I'd say the order is:
Meta Quest Controller Tracking > Apple Vision hand tracking > Meta Quest hand tracking,
      yeah
