A couple of other thing that I wish were discussed: - The Guyver (manga/anime) similarities are a little too strong. The writers should see what works in Guyver and what doesn't and write accordingly. - Limitations. I dont know the stories well enough to know what kinds of practical limitations. For example, i liked flash when he would have to stop and eat, Green lantern when he would have to recharge hos ring, Spiderman when he would have to make more webfluid, etc. Jaime is so OP I think it would be cool and interesting for the writers to add in some kind of creative limitation.
I think that Reach vs Green lanterns is such a w concept they could explain more like almost enemies by nature. How dolphins and sharks are enemies by nature in a way. This was also shown how guy fought jamie Blue beetle in his first comic but oi overtime jamie actually changes this by being friends with someone like kyle rayner.
Jaime was intended to DC’s spider-man equivalent when he was introduced. He crawled so Miles Morales could walk( I wish they could meet because they would get along great) The best way to raise Jaime’s profile is simply make him a member of the Teen Titans again. They gave him interesting personalities to bounce off of.
I'm gonna be honest. As a Fan of DC and Marvel, Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle runs into the same issues that Bart Allen as a Flash, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne as a Robin, Guy Garder, Kyle Rainier, and others, and other Characters with multiples of Long, established Lineages run into. Jaime is not Peter Parker and can't get over like the 1st Spider-Man was able to.
Unfortunately overtime, you have to wonder if they create too many characters tied to a lineage with no adequate storyline to help them get over that hump.
I think Jaime should be developed more like Miles Morales. A lineage character but is unique and loved in their own way. Jaime works because he's not an imitation of Ted Cord so why should he imitate Peter Parker.
Jaime is not a lineage character. It's a lazy rewrite of Guyver into the DC universe where suits would rather only approve of reviatilizing old IP they been squatting on for decades, so this "new" character was written around to fit the existing Blue Beetle Ted Cord. The Reach and GL corps figthing over Palestine or whatever you kiddies can handle being mentioned, is also just sad. No longer does art imitate reality but nothing but distills it so reality can be escaped from, not be inspired from by understanding real world history. No aspirational comics between adults who understand the context, but something for kids so it can be the ONLY history they know about, their various consumerist head canons.
Def understand your thoughts on the movie. You're def not the unpopular opinion it's a splitting movie. I see it as a "turn your brain off" type movie and I enjoy those from time to time
Another entertaining video. Thank you for including my hot take. I loved yours. After I really thought about it, the scarab being able to extend its host’s lifespan makes so much and I’d love to see that implemented.
I think the movie would I've been better if the tone was more darker like the movie upgrade Even though blue beetle comic was bit more darker because it follows a teen trying to be a hero with killer technology weapon attach to his back would have many ideas to build on that trope .
For the whole Jaime vs Ted thing, I like both of them a lot but Ted Kord is Blue Beetle to me. He's a mix of some classic superhero tropes with the added layer that he constantly makes mistakes, and those mistakes are kind of what defines him which makes him so much more relatable. I don't know how unpopular this opinion is, but I think the story where Ted dies is one of the best Ted Kord stories ever. It's a great final adventure that puts all his flaws on display while also establishing what makes him such a great hero. He's a skilled hero and a force for good that spreads positivity everywhere he goes. Ted really felt like the heart of the Justice League. I don't think there are too many heroes that truly capture what Ted Kord represented. Jaime though is also great, such a great concept, look, and characterization and his series is SOOO fun. Jaime's just a good kid giving his best shot at the whole superhero thing, having a deep love for his friends and family who serve as one of the best supporting casts DC has. I also love that they all just know he's Blue Beetle and are basically just fine with it, he also has this very nice relationship with Traci Thirteen that I just love. I think really the only things that make me like Jaime less than Ted is that Jaime was introduced in a major crossover and then had to deal with the whole "One Year Later" thing, as well as DC trying to put him in the Titans in outside media like Young Justice and the DCAMU. Like, sure, he was a member of the Titans in the comics but it was during a pretty bad time in Titans comic history and Jaime makes it clear he prefers his friends in El Paso than the Titans. He'd fit better either as a solo hero or in another superhero team like the Justice Society, he is a legacy character of a Golden Age hero after all so he'd work in that team.
2 questions 1. How would you feel if Kyle Rayner’s Green Lantern and Blue Beetle interacted since they’re both the underdogs in the DC universe ? 2. How would you feel if Green Lantern and Blue Beatle’s powers combined into one ?
Didn't know too much about the character and unfortunately the movie didn't make me want to run out and find more details about him and his powers. TBH, I can't even recall if I completed watching it..... Maybe.... Maybe, I'll try again and give it a 2nd watch.
Said it before on the community post and I'll say it again. 1. They should have Ted not only study the scarab but help mentor Jaime, do something similar like Spiderverse you can also add booster gold in as well. It also would be funny gag to make people think Ted and Gold are a couple and they both explain how good friends they are like in the comics. 2. I think the scarab should have more malicious alien like nature where Jamie is desperately trying to fight for control preventing it from causing harm to anyone including his friends and family 3. He should have his own mini series/animated show, if kiteman of all people can get his own show so should he. If rogues gallery are a problem reminder they can make new villains and heroes, they make new ones all the time.

11:27 he could easily just be slotted in the young justice generation with tim, conner, cassie and bart since that was the titans team he was on the comics.
I would put Jaime in Young Justice. Stick him with Tim, Kyle, Conner, Cassie, Miss Martian, and the like- those secondary/tertiary legacy heroes. Since Young Justice isn’t a big team right now, Jaime isn’t a big name, just as the rest of those characters aren’t. The Justice League, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and then then current kids (without a main team to their name). Kinda wild that the popular characters in the most-widely-read 1990s/2000s era (like Tim and Kyle) just have nowhere to be nowadays.
I'd say Jaime belongs in Tim Drake's generation. We have the JSA as the elders, the JLA as the established adults, the Teen Titans later Titans as the generation that started as kids but grew up and became more established, the Young Justice\Teen Titans generation as younger allies who have some growing up to do, but are still mature, and then we have the Super-Sons generation that are kids trying to understand their place.
Expecting beetle to be DCs "spiderman" simply because of personality traits is so unfair. Spiderman is on the most popular fictional characters of all time. I love beetle but that is just unfair.
Jaime should be DC's Spider-Man. Whatever you do with Spider-Man you can do with him. Besides, DC needs a Spider-Man because , he can't team up with Batman, Superman ,Wonder Woman or the League.
Honestly the fact that this movie gets this much hate is unreal... The characters had good chemistry, they did well considering their budget, Xolo's acting is on point, the loss of his father was genuinely heartbreaking, he had good chemistry with Jenny, the story of his father and uncle was well done(and by George Lopez no doubt), the plot twist of the grandmother being a freedom fighter was refreshing, the Jaime and the Scarab needing to fully bond- and his resistance to doing so- was understandable, the inclusion and respect shown to a missing Ted Kord was nice to see. Literally the only issue was the typical villain - Jaime just graduated and should feel proud and excited at the future, but he feels guilty for leaving his family in a time he felt he was needed. He needs work, but not only does it fail- he is not linked to an alien object and kind of a freak. You feel the struggle of him just wanting to feel safe and secure in a situation where everything is chaos and the future is uncertain. He has all this power abd potential, but heels hopeless. There is so much in that character. I see people hate this movie, but I don't see it.
