I appreciate that you don't sell a dream about the tech sales industry. Your up front and honest. You help people understand what they would be getting themselves into. I see a lot of techfluencers sell a dream to people and I feel that's why the turnover rate is high after some people take these courses. Higher levels all the way. I wish you and Kevin Dorsey could sit down and talk, that would be a dope video.

I just started a tech sales job 2 weeks ago as a sales engineer. I was lazy early in life and didn't finish high school. I bummed around for years, job to job, until I got a job in sales. Then I started to like it and was good at it, I decided I wanted to get into tech sales, so I went to university and got my mechatronics engineer's degree at 48 years old, now I am 49 and work at a tech company and am in charge of additive printers and electronic test equipment sales. It is great, and the pay is amazing. Next week I fly to Sydney for the Australian Manufacturing Week expo, I am on a stand with the team. I enjoy your content and have followed your advice.

Hey Eric, I'm graduating with an Associate's degree in June and am considering an online Bachelor's in IT while aiming for an SDR position. Given your experience, do you think pursuing this degree would be beneficial for my career in tech sales, or should I direct my focus entirely towards gaining and excelling in the role? Also, would pursuing the degree and working in the role simultaneously make sense? I appreciate your honest advice and the content you put out. Keep up the good work!

The SDR role is the first round of try-outs. Your goal should be to perfect that craft, and to make it overwhelmingly obvious that you’re to 10-20%.

The question that I would love addressed, is if tech sales is such a good business to get into, and according to you still is, why are so many people such as yourself, getting out of the business so quickly to focus on a youtube channel or other line of work? Is this something you do on the side? It seems many are not doing this on the side, but have left the business entirely.

    Seeking tech sales career advice:
I'm a junior data engineer pondering a shift to tech sales. Friends and colleagues think I've got what it takes. But I'm torn. Is it wise to invest more time in data engineering for stability? Then I could explore sales roles later. My main worry is hitting 30 soon. Still, I believe the right opportunity is worth the wait. Your thoughts are welcome.

It only gets harder to make the change to sales the more time goes on. With your background you could get a job at a great company, and if you don't like it, go back to engineering.
I've just seen too many people say they want to try it in a year or two but ultimately never do because the more you go in the direction of stability, the more you have to give up to try sales.

@@techsales-higherlevels Thank you for getting back to me. I've taken action by applying for Sales Executive roles and networking for referrals. Additionally, I've purchased and read some recommended sales books from UA-cam content creators to prepare for interviews. Over the last few weeks, I've been applying for sales positions and am hoping to secure a few interviews. This will help me decide if I want to pursue a career in sales, which I'm now leaning towards.
