    Run dirty 30’s or press a birfield ring on and they hold very well i love birfield rings on my samurai when you press the ring on around the birfield it becomes much stonger there so they dont explode apart sometime you need to do a little die grinding inside because it makes the birfield a little thicker and housing castings are not always super clean and perfect so you might have to grind a little so you have clearance to turn whole way🙃

    Hey I’m putting my RCV’s in this week. I noticed it comes with a tube of grease. Do we just pick it into the birf balls like we do with regular Toyota birfs? Or are we supposed to use the zirk for some weird reason? Or is the zirk just to maintain grease in the future..

    Forgive the ignorance,
    but how does lighting the tire with some fire help?
    Does it seal better ?

    • @chrispalmer1255
      @chrispalmer1255 2 роки тому

      Pretty sure it has to do with the gas/air inside the tire expanding quickly and popping the tire onto the bead

    • @landerson6983
      @landerson6983 8 місяців тому

      @landcruisermailbox6139 any flamable spray product gets sprayed into the inside of the un-beaded tire. When lit, a mini explosion happens and the surge of air pops the bead into place. One can spray a trail of the liquid away from the tire and light it like a fuse to reach the inside full of fumes.

      IIRC, the80 series knuckles have the steering arms on the bottom of the knuckle. The 60/62 axle is 58" wide (same as mini truck with 3" spacers or IFS hubs), but its harder to find in these parts, although minitruck SFA are getting harder to come by as well.

  • @jordynfouracres5273
    @jordynfouracres5273 2 роки тому +3

    There is a much easier way to take your knuckles apart to change shafts ect
    Take the break calliper off then take the 4 nuts off that are holding your pitman arm on and pop that off, pull up on your knuckle once the pitman arms off and it will roll off super simple way takes 5 mins or less

    • @bailey7067
      @bailey7067 2 роки тому

      Steering arm, not pitman arm

    • @DirtGarage
      @DirtGarage  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, but its not really that much easier. Plus you gotta take all the 10mm bolts from the wiper seal on back of the knuckle off so it can "roll off". We all have IFS hub mod, so you don't have to take the knuckle - spindle and all the bearings out to service. Saving a bunch of time!

    • @liveoak7838
      @liveoak7838 2 роки тому +1

      assuming it's lifted. get the caster angle set correctly and figure out the rest from there. with the right caster, a non cv shaft with spring pad shims would be the most likely result unless you perform a "toyota axle cut and turn" which would achieve desired steering and pinion angles but it's a big job. an fj80 high pinion third member would be a good idea in all scenarios. you are correct though, it is not spinning all of the time so steering(caster) should be the primary focus over shaft angle or type.

      @@liveoak7838 mine I sure don’t want to mess with that caster/ rake,,I mean I have no tire wobble,,I can run down the interstate at 75 with these big tires on 8 inch wheels,,holds straight no wandering,,which more rake should make it even more friendly,,you would think,,,,or I could just go ahead and add second transfer I already have the case just need the adapter,,you just
      Confirm what I was thinking already,,just thought ,,mayb there was some “been there done that” kind of thing I guess I was looking for,,no rock crawling for me,,and I don’t mud ride,,it’s more just for when I need it I got it type of deal, but I do want it rite

    • @DirtGarage

      On a solid axle truck with manual locking hubs I'd imagine straight ujoint to ujoint is fine with a not so ideal pinion angle. But if your worried about your pinion angle pointing up maybe toss in some longer shackles? I had the opposite issue when I lowered my truck and had to throw in shorty shackles to make it work.
