I super appreciate your video. You’re very thorough, you annunciate so nicely, and speak with a nice easy tone. So many others mumble and speak so fast it’s difficult to get through their videos that I just click them off. Thank you again so much for your tutelage. I’m off to change my oil and save some dough. 👍🏼

We also have 14 Traverse. 84,000 when we got it. 95,000 now. Tips: change oil fully and often. 4,000 miles. Be diligent! Timing chains depends on it. Don't go by oil life reminder. Check oil often. Weekly. Don't over fill but keep at max on level surface.

GM tested that Oil Life function and it was really accurate. What they did was to lab test the oil once the life expectancy ran out. The computer looks at the driving habits and conditions such things and taking off without warming up the car and city vs highway miles and stop and go.
In my case I do almost all city driving. So my oil life expectancy ends really fast often btwn 1500 and 2000 miles. I imagine if I was doing almost all highway miles I would see it run out at 5k miles. On my previous cars my mechanic would want me to change oil every 3k miles. I would say that right about now GM is correct in that I should change it much sooner.
I am retired so I only drive 5k miles per year. Two or three oil changes for me per year ...

Great video/ always make sure the old oil filter seal comes off with the old oil filter. I have had this happen twice. The first time I did not catch it and it blowed oil out every where

It is one of the worse I have done. I dread doing oil changes on the traverse just for the filter

That drip is annoying from the stream initially hitting the support behind the oil pan. I solved that by using a funnel. I use a magnetic drain plug remover tool and hold the funnel up in place. After loosening the drain plug I put the magnetic remover on it, hold the funnel in place so the initial stream hits the back of the funnel and then direct it into the collection container. This way no drip to clean and no oil going where I do not want it to go. As the funnel is flexible I also use put it under the oil filter little spillway so when the filter is loosened and the oil drips down the tiny spillway it goes into the funnel and into the waste pan. (Funnel has an removable extension on it to make sure it goes where I want. I have also cut out the funnel a bit so it fits around and under the oil filter and I can still turn the filter.) Yes extra work but I like my engine to remain very clean as it makes it easier to spot potential leaks in the future.

Great vid! Lots of useful tips. You must have a small camera; that's the first time I ever saw the oil filter installed on the car.

They can either be the easiest or the worst. If one gets too tight it makes the whole job looks a lot better at jiffy lube haha

That is a good question. I haven’t been under a newer one. Hopefully they got it sorted out but doubtful as they never do and maintenance on their own vehicles

Av8tore71, that’s probably why the engineers designed it that way…so you’d HAVE to take it to the dealership. No thanks, it’s much easier working on my Honda.
