- Had another headlight bulb go out in the Chevy Traverse. After doing it a couple times I have found a couple tricks that make the job a little easier.

This video is awesome. Perfectly described, great detail. I would have never had thought to go this way. Btw, to viewers who are doing the right side, a couple of the directions are the opposite, just keep that in mind. Great video!
Good call. When your in the moment its hard to think of all the angles
@@ModdingAddiction thank you for posting this video. My sister has replaced the bulbs SEVERAL times on her 2014 Traverse, and today I'm ordering her a set of LED's from Techmax. They are direct insertion, shaped just like the bulb you pulled out (just LED strips instead of a filament), way brighter, and I'm on my second year in one vehicle with them, no complaints. Just installed them in the Highlander yesterday, but I expect the same longevity.
This video made it super easy to change by bulbs. He explained every step perfectly. The hardest part for me was getting the old bulb out. My light had a different clip then what was shown in the video but after I figured it out it was super quick and easy to do. Thanks so much for all your help.
Last year (2020), my Texas dealer wanted $250 to replace my left side low beam bulb on my 2012 Chevy Traverse LTZ. I'm not a car guy so I found a body shop that would do it for $100. Watched them fumble around with it for 45 min but they finally got it done. 3 days ago (May 2021), my right side low beam went out, ordered ACDelco part for $7.95 on Amazon which came in yesterday. Watched this video and replaced the bulb in about 20 min, 10 min of which was me fumbling the new bulb re-screw-in because I was dead set on doing it backwards. Once I pulled my head out and turned the bulb the other way, it went right in like a charm. All I did was unscrew the 3 Torx 20 screws, pulled the rubber back, inserted a duck decoy instead of Gatorade can, did the rest by feel - easy peasy. Was able to do it by feel by watching how you did it with the flashlight. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!!
That’s amazing glad you could do it. You are welcome
@@ModdingAddiction Best of luck to you!
You have save me sir. Thank you so much for a detail video and saving me some money because these dealerships and mechanic shops ripping people off to change a dam lightbulb.
Thank you so much for videos like this. As a single mom I literally followed step by step pausing when needed to change my passenger light. I feel so accomplished. I can’t tell u how appreciative I am and for the money I saved.
Way to go glad I could help.
Simple things like lights and wiper blades save you lots
Yes indeed my wife told me the dealer told her $174 I immediately said hold up UA-cam boom 💥 😂!!!
Thansk alot
@@ModdingAddiction single broke mom here and I agree with this comment. Was quoted 250 even though I bought the part. Gonna follow this step by step. Thank you so much !!
Worked. The first one (drivers side) was more difficult than second one (passenger). The clip is a pain to figure out. Rest is easy.
Now you need one for high beams.
Apparently wives (such as mine) like Traverses.
That’s a good idea I might have to make video on that
I just fixed my headlight by myself thank you so much
Life saver. My first attempt was the typical method, try to take off the pop rivets and go thru the top.
Nope... this is the way. Thanks
Thanks . I saw previous videos that highlighted the two, but not the bottom one. I was puzzled where the 3rd one was
Thanks for posting this video. Took me more time to put the bottom screw back in than to change the bulb
Dude thank you my headlight in my traverse went out and yea i didn't want to go through the hood but now that i seen this...makes it so much easier thank you very much!!!! Also hit the subscribe button keep up the helpful content...
If you go though the hood it is a task and a half that is for sure. Thank you so much for the sub it means a whole lot to me.
Not a problem liked your content keep it up and that worked so much better going the route you did got my headlights going and it was definitely easier n faster
Dealership: That will be $350 to change both headlight bulbs, sir.
Me: Ha! UA-cam it is then. *Hangs up phone*.
Very good video. Good video coverage
wow super easy thanks for your amazing explanation! I didn't even need my husband to do it!! I did it my self!🥳🥳
Thank you thank you thank you! That is ridiculously helpful!
Thanks! Great video with clear cut instructions.
Great Video brother. Made it so I didn't have to buy a Haynes manual just to change a headlight out.
Thank you! Best video on this.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you if it wasn't for your post I would have hired someone. We changed out both and it took us 5 minutes.
You went above and beyond with the detailed tips. Thank you very much!
Great video
Thanks man!! My lady was very impressed how I was able to get this done after she was told all the complicated ways it could ONLY be done. I was done within minutes!
Good job my man looking like a stallion haha glad you could do it
It’s 3:33 in the afternoon and I’m going to attempt to change the headlight bulbs first my sister. I was going to go from the hood to change them until I watched this video. I’ll get right back with you to let you know how I did. Well, I changed the high and low beam headlights in the drivers side. I got a bungee cord to hold the fender welt back. The low beam was pretty easy to change out but the high beam was a little more difficult. There wasn’t as much room to work with and you couldn’t really see what you were doing. I just kept at it and I finally got the high beam changed out. Thank you so much for posting this how to video. It really made a difference. I don’t think I would have got it done otherwise.😊
Thank you, it worked great and was super easy, now ive done this before but didnt quite remember how to do it. i called the dealer and they wanted 190.00 to change them, and i was like, people in hell want ice water. whatever
Gatorade bottle smart af
Hell yeah thanks man saved me a headache
Glad I could help
The Gatorade bottle tip was the bomb!
The simple solutions sometimes are the best
Thanks for the info. 👍
At 5:39 you said to turn the housing clockwise but actually turned the bulb cover counterclockwise.
Thanks for the correction.
@@ModdingAddiction Thanks for the video. My headlight change went smoothly because of your video demo.
Your video saved me 200 bucks from the dealership. Two bulbs were 32 bucks at Auto Zone. Number 20 Star screwdriver. The Gatorade (I did two sizes) tip was invaluable.....giving me all the room I needed. At 70....my arms are thinner so that helps. Your instructions were clear and concise and made the job easier than I could have imagined. I actually looked at 4 videos and ONLY yours made any sense. Kudos for your knowledge and expertise! I generally pay someone (a lot most times)...but you gave me the confidence to give it a try.... I feel a sense of accomplishment....my wife said we’ll put the savings towards a trip to the casino.....go figure 😐😊. From Michigan...(no rain....just snow)....thank you. Mark
That makes every bit of it worth it. I am so happy that I can help someone out. Thank you for the amazing comment and thank you so much for watching my video.
Dude!!! Life saver!! Thnx
My 2009 Traverse had 7mm hex screws instead of torx 20 head screws. Could have been replaced by someone at sometime. Also my 09 inner fender wrapped under the bumper supports to the front and had two philips head screws that I removed along with a plastic body type pin that I pulled out to let the inner fender pull out better. I did make the mistake of removing the bulb before taking the connector and clip off-fits pretty tight and in a tight place. Take the clip off while bulb is still in makes it a lot better.
Good Stuff I saw another video where they took the whole front end off to change a bulb!!!!
I know I was about to go down that road after dealing with going through the goon but thought about it for a second
I just got me a 2014 Chevy Traverse and I want to install led headlight bulbs and watching your video helped me out alot😁😁
There you go. Do they preform as good as the stock headlights? Thinking about switching mine over
@@ModdingAddiction they perform even better; once you switch to Led, you will not switch back to stock because led is better and brighter👌🏾
Thanks, easy way, did it in 10 minutes on a friends car
Thank you very much for the video! Simply the best instruction I've seen here on UA-cam. Changing the passenger side was a bit more challenging than the driver's side since I'm right handed. Thanks again!
Thank you so much!!, I like the way you use the right words and appropiate language, it is very cool to see videos like this with no cursing and really well explained, specially for us latinos trying to learn or perfection our english, BLESSINGS!!
Thank you so much I love having comments like this and subscribers like you
Hey thanks so much man! Gonna do this today to my wife’s car 🙏🏼 great camera work! You described it visually to a T. What bulbs did u use for that exact headlight?
The tip on removing the clip first really helped. Thanks
Now That Was Easy
so simple/appreciate it man
Excellent, even I was able to follow.
OMG thanks your video really helped me understand how to change out my bulbs.....I will be doing it today.....such a life saver
Great instructions. Hardest part was feeling where the clips were on either side to remove the bulb. That took the longest. Other than that, instructions were simple and the Gatorade bottle worked well. I had a small tray on the driveway to keep everything in to prevent it from rolling around. Thank you very much.
Thank you. Those can be very tricky since the wires on them are not very long.
Thank you for a 66 year widow on a tight budget! Tried before and got frustrated, then I saw your video turning the steering wheel and the Gatorade bottle! Wow. Happy and Blessed New Year to you and yours! Now I need to change my shocks😀
Sorry to hear that but glad you go the project done. I haven't tried to change the shocks out yet so I don't know if there is any tricks.Probably not but if your around the Portland OR area I would help you out.
Great video bud! Lights are wrkn! Way easier than I thought.
I raised the hood to change my passenger bulb and the only words were WTF! And not abbreviated.
Thanks for your video it walked me right through and saved a dealership trip
I did the sam thing started taking things apart in the hood and was making it no where lol.
Hello!! Thank you so much!!
I’ll do that next time!!👍 I just paid olmost $100
😒
Thanks bro.
Thank you. Just did this only using your video. So grateful!
I just got this car. Just drove it to my work spot. Overnite. I watched this video for a second cause I wanted to see..easy Or? Low and behold I get to the site, it gets dark and I then see....same headlight out! Drivers side! This vehicle was certified inspected. So we assumed buying it everything was perfect. Hahahaha lord
Great video, thanks for sharing. I just replaced both driver & passenger side lights on mine (2016 Traverse).
Just wanted to say thanks for the detailed video just got done on also my wifes Traverse took about a half hour both sides even tho it only needed the driver but thats just how I am like u said mine as well do both. Hers were alot easier than the ones on my CTS. Thanks again 👍
Anyone know how to replace the high beam bulbs on a 2012 Chevy Traverse? We were able to replace the lower lamp bulbs in the turn signal as well the low beam bulb, but we can't get the high beam bulb since there appears to be a bracket that prevents us for turning away the bulb?
Best one out there for this, great explanation and camera work.
Bro you rock thank you so much for this video.
Glad to help
Would of cost me 245 bucks from dealer...thanks for video.... cost me 30 bucks....
Grew up watching my dad and helping boyfriends work on cars and I never would have guessed to go the way you did. Way more simple than taking all the other crap off on top!!
Saw this guy use a bungie cord from the hole of one of those screws to the hub cap to hold open that part you loosen if a Gatoraide bottle isn't readily available.
Dude, I wished, I had found your video a few months back. Wouldve saved me, some serious money on paying the dealer to do this.
Aww man never good to hear but hey for next time you will kill it
Why not just change one and keep the new one for the backup seems like a waste of time and product don’t fix what ain’t broke
A buddy of mine paid $150 for a dealership to change one bulb on his '11 Traverse. $30 for 2 bulbs and following this video....priceless
I love to get these comments makes it all worth it
Watched 3 videos and they were very confusing. You made this very simple. Thank you!
That’s always good to hear. I’m glad that it helped you out
Terrible engineering! Even Toyota know to it’s better to change from top
Good video
Thank you for posting this. It was very easy to follow and a great step-by-step explanation.
Good info. May have drank one too many red bulls before making video
I really wish Chevy made these easy to replace. Really inconvenient to replace them.
Makes since thanks
Whats the tool called to remove the inner clips by the springs
I did it!! I can be barely put gas cap on!! Lol thanks sooo much. My husband had little faith .. he said had to take all that stuff under hood . Ty Ty Ty !!
Glad to help and way to go!
Thanks for the tips the dealer ship trying to charge 165 on my wife car fuck no l’ll will do it my self lol
Hell yeah glad to hear that power to the DIYers
You’d think those tight bastards at GM would at least make the wires long enough to get the bulb and the harness out where you can get those stupid clips loose.
Extra wire is extra money lol
I miss the days when it was just three screws on top to remove the entire assembly, giving you all the room in the world to change the bulb. That's the way it *should* be. I'm glad ours has had the Torx screws replaced with Philips screws, though. I also check the bulb for fault marks (only on Travis), as ours had a wiring harness go bad. I'd love to remove all the extra bolts that aren't accessible and don't need to exist one day. I also don't have the energy to do both at once, and Travis is the only vehicle where I've known both bulbs to go out within a fairly small timeframe, so I don't do both at once.
I know right when there was room to get the maintenance things out east now everything has to be so small and compact that there is no room for anything. Getting starters and alternators are getting harder to get out and with the auto start stop they go out so fast
@@ModdingAddiction Yeah. Seems they want to fill every cubic centimeter of open space. As for auto-start/stop, I absolutely despise it, and am glad that none of ours have it
Right and to pull the engine took half an hour haha@@xHadesStamps
You should always turn the lights off when you are removing and installing bulbs of all sorts cause the light that is still working will be extremely hot and will burn you.
It hurts!!!
And always test them before you close everything up cause sometimes you can get a faulty part right out of the box.
Quality control isn’t what it used to be like decades ago and you never know if somebody dropped the package from the time it was made to the time you purchase it.
I think it is ridiculous On how car manufacturers Make it more difficult to repair our replace simple parts to a car.
Right and it’s only going to get worse everything has to be so small and compact
Thanks that was very helpful 😃👍
Gonna try the 2 screws method first lol
OMG!!! Thank you so much for this video. I recently bought this car and the bulb went out. Like you i spent hours trying to figure how to change it. I was ready to take it to a mechanic but they were about to charge me a arm and a leg to change it for me. I looked it up on UA-cam and came across your video. Great way on how you explain how to do it and the extra tips you also mentioned in your video. Thank you once again.
Thanks for this. Saved a ton of frustration
Thank you so much if I had you tube long ago for my Malibu I wouldn't have paid 230.00 just to change out bulb. Blessing to you sir God bless
Great vid the groove thing really helped
I was dreading having ro change my light bulb because I thought I would have to take the wheel off to get to it. Going to work on this tonight. Thanks!
How your steering wheel didn't lock up? Mind did took me forever to get it un stuck
Turn the key to the on position. If it locks your going to have to turn it and try to get the key to unlock it. It depends on what way you start turning when it locks up on which way you need to move to get it to unlock. Best bet is to try one way. If that doesn’t work try the other. If that doesn’t work repeat at step one lol
ur a life saver thank you
May our FATHER who art in Heaven continue to bless protect and guide you with your family.
Thank you just did it on my own🎉❤
After watching your video, it inspired us to do it ourselves. Thanks so much for sharing!!! We were able to complete it in under 20 minutes and save big $. All the best to you!
Great Video! Fast and simple
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Saved me $140 ;)
Heck ya power to the DIY
Thank you excellent video
Thank you this will be my first time changing a bulb..
You got this
Thanks for that video...
A great job explaining set by step directions. I was having a hard time because I was thinking the horn was in the way. Once I realized it wasn't. It took me about 15 minutes from start to finish.
best video I've seen!!
Thank you that means a lot and makes it all worth it. Have a great day
Thank you so much 👏🏾
Appreciate you man
A buddy of mine had a Acadia and couldn't figure this out. Took it to his local garage to have the bulb replaced. $45 for 2 bulbs and $300 labor in Virginia just outside of DC.
Oh no that is never good to hear. Well know you know where to find the steps
Great video. I have a 2015 Traverse. Took me about 45 minutes to replace one low beam light bulb. Will probably take me 20 minutes next time. I had 1 tab on the back of the connector at the bottom to push in, not 2 on the sides and I had to study it for a while to figure this out. And the screws have a torx T20 head if anyone is wondering without watching the whole video. Thanks!
Yeah once you figure out how things kinda need to be placed it makes it super easy the next time. Thanks for the comment
Easier to do if you remove the tire
Worked perfectly. Thank you, sir.
Great vid. Thank you, helped a lot
No problem 👍
