Why do ALL agencies use the R-15 in sweeping situations? Acording to many videos out there the round has many advantages and over penatration is not that much of an issue. Watch AR-15 Home Defense videos and learn yourselves. It opened my eyes for sure. Great video.
I swear, if I had a plaid shirt like that I'd swear it was me. Been having this argument and been saying a shotgun is the way to go. Although I have pistols and an AR, but I still say shotguns are best for home defense. I don't have any thought of going for my AR if I needed something immediately.

I also own a S&W AR 15 and would never use it for home protection, because it would definitely have too much over penetration to be used in the home. My goto weapon would be one of my 9MM pistols running Federal Home Defense hollow points.
I'm a year later than your year, and I'm doing the same identical thing. AR in the closet, my 9 is my goto. Although, I think I'd be better served with a shotgun. I just haven't had the desire to pick one up yet.

I'm About A Little Over A Year In Viewing This Video, But I Wanted To Suggest That People Use Frangible, Soft Point, Ballistic Tip Or Hallow Point Ammo For Home Defense! If You Shoot An Intruder With These Types Of Rounds In Center Mass, They Will Not Be Getting Up Period!
These Types Of Rounds Do A Lot More Damage Than Green Tip And FMJ's Used By The Military. The Civilian Population Has Many More Options Than The Military, Due To The Geneva Convention Restrictions! .223 And 5.56 Rounds Create Devastating Wound Channels When Using The Ammo Types Mentioned Above. Their High Velocity And Round Expansion Will Also Keep Them From Over Penetrating!
AR15's Are Excellent Options For Pretty Much Any Type Of Self Defense Or SHTF Situation. Round Choice Will Be A Major Factor To Determine Stopping Power!

glock 27. for home defense
I had a 27 and while I agree a 40 cal is great, but for home defense something bigger would be my preference. I liked the 27 under my arm but I'd prefer a good grip on a full size if I had my choice. Now I'm all 9mm which is the ticket other than a shotgun.
