I think Mistborn is a great place to start - it's my personal favorite of his, but Warbreaker is also a great option! It's a standalone and has a super cool magic system. It'll give you a great idea of what Brandon can do in just one book!!
Ooh great, thank you for the input! It’s good to have a standalone option if it can’t get to the series. So excited to break into the work of Brando Sando :)
I kind of went back and fourth between once upon a broken heart and caravel series… so honestly you can read them in either sequence. One way it’s like you’re reading a prequel, and the other way it’s like you’re reading a sequel. ❤
Ok perfect thank you for letting me know!! I think I’ll definitely go with OUABH first since that’s what I’m most interested in and I can always read caraval second if I want more of the world haha
I really love your reading journal. It is cute and creative. It was also nice of you to show me how to print out the book covers from Goodreads. Tfs Happy New Years
Beautiful set up. I love your Botanical Anthology sticker book 😍 I just finished reading The Shadow of the Wind too! It was so good. This year I read all but one of the Brontë books, my favourites were Jane Eyre and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I also started War and Peace for the third time and still was unable to finish it. If you read a chapter a day it will take you right through till the end of the year. It’s a great way to read it. Good luck with your reading goals for 2024 😊
Thank you!!☺️ I own The Tenant of Wildfell Hall as well so I’ll have to pick that one up if I want even more Brontë sisters! And I have also started and not finished war and peace haha. I was pleasantly surprised that the writing wasn’t super difficult but it’s just so longgg!
I read Anne Frank’s diary in middle school and absolutely loved it. I’m due for a reread as an adult myself, but I think you’ll enjoy that. You can’t go wrong with C.S. Lewis. I’m finishing up The Screwtape Letters right now for the first time and knew it was a 5 star read for me from the second chapter. It really makes me think on my own life and identify those seemingly little temptations in a new light, and I feel for me it needs to be a yearly read from now on. I read Mere Christianity along with my then-boyfriend before I became a Christian per a friend’s recommendation because I had so many questions about Christianity. I thought it was an excellent read at the time, and now that I am a Christian and several years have passed, it’s also overdue for a reread. I hope you enjoy them! You have a lovely reading journal setup and great reading goals. 😊
Ooh sounds like we have very similar book tastes! I read a lot of WWII historical fiction/non-fiction, so I can’t believe I haven’t read Anne Franks diary! But should be a really great read this year. And I’ve only read a few individual chapters of Mere Christianity but never cover to cover, so im very much excited to finally take in the whole thing. I feel like C.S. Lewis is just a treasure trove waiting for me. So cool that Mere Christianity played a role in your faith journey :) I love hearing about the impact books can have, one of the reasons I love reading!❤️
As someone who finally finished reading all the Cosmere books this year (along with the Secret Projects), Mistborn is a great place to start with Brandon Sanderson’s books. Everybody has a different opinion about what order to read his books in, but I was advised to start with Mistborn and I loved the 1st trilogy - now I’ve been to the Dragonsteel convention (which my brother - who got me into Sanderson/Cosmere - and I call “Sando-con”) for the last 2 years!
I read The Unquiet a few years ago and LOVED it! It really helped me better understand myself and feel less alone and less crazy. I would highly recommend for any introvert who finds themselves in a sea of extroverts... or for extroverts who are trying really hard to understand their introverted friend or loved one. I am also in the middle of reading Atomic Habits and... oh Boy, it's definitely helping me to break my bad habits and provides a ton of useful tips to help you be successful. Both are great nonfiction picks for 2024!!
That makes me so motivated to make Atomic Habits one of my first reads of the year! And thank you for The Unquiet recommendation!! I’m definitely going to check that out after Quiet. Sounds like it would be very helpful for understanding/accepting my introversion☺️
Well, I can't really speak to what order Caraval should be read in (before or after the one you mentioned) but I can say that I read it in December as part of a readalong and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. And I do want to read the second book. Now, it's not perfect, but it was enjoyable. I read the first VE Schwab book you have - A Darker Shade of Magic after it sitting on my shelves for years and it lived up to the hype! I always worry that I won't like books that are all over booktube so I put them off. I am making it a goal to finish up the series this year. Your journal is lovely and I'm subscribing to follow along - gotta love when the algorithym gets it right!
Glad to hear you enjoyed Caraval and A Darker Shade of Magic!! I feel the same way about popular books because sometimes they just don’t hit and then it’s extra sad. I’m keeping expectations medium for Caraval but can’t help be really excited for A Darker Shade☺️ glad you’re here and enjoyed the journal - “sometimes the algorithm gets it right” has to be one of my favorite comments!!😂🥰
Canva is an alternative for using google docs for resizing and printing the covers. I use the rectangular frames in Canva and just drag the cover photos in the frames
Oh nice! Yes I think it’s the self help book I’ve heard the most positive feedback on. I’m planning on starting it next week actually!! I bet you’ll get more out of it a second time, seems like a book that’s helpful to keep coming back to :)
As someone who has read both Caraval and OUABH i would suggest going in that order. OUABH the first book has dome spoilers for the end of the Caraval series and in Caraval you also meet Jacks which is the main male lead ofbthe second series.
Great, thank you so much for your input! I am leaning towards reading Caraval first now, currently in a long line for the audiobooks at the library haha
Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is my all-time favorite series. Your color scheme is beautiful and layouts look do-able. I'm not a fan of any layouts that are too busy. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Yes I love Outlander!! I read the first seven books a few years ago and am determined to finally get to the last two (published) next year. Glad you liked the set up☺️
I love Wuthering Heights and have been planning to include it in my reads for next year as well. 😌 I’m hoping to spend more time on classics overall because I’m over the overhyped new books!
Yours was the most inspiring and helpful reading journal setup I've seen yet (and I've been watching a lot!) Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to keeping up with your journaling videos! Also, Libby is my besr friend LOL. I am so thankful for the app 🤩
I just finished the Cemetery of Forgotten Books series. There are 4 books in the series. The Prisoner of Heaven is actually book 3. IMHO you may want to read book 2 'The Angel's Game' before you read Prisoner of Heaven. Just a suggestion. Happy Reading🙂
Thank you so much for this! I actually got Angels Game as well and am planning on reading that one soon and then Prisoner of Heaven after! My husband has already read Prisoner of Heaven and is reading Angel’s game now so it will be interesting how our reading experiences differ with different orders☺️
Once Upon a Time a Broken Heart did sound more interesting to me as well, so I read that trilogy and didn’t read Caraval at all. I know, I’m a rebel…lol. I did really love the series. So far it’s my favorite of the year! I will say it seemed like they mentioned a few things that probably were more explained in the Caraval series, and I heard some characters overlap, but I wasn’t lost at all and really loved the story. I am now going to go back soon and read the Caraval trilogy though.
Oh that’s so interesting to hear your experience reading OUABH first! I actually recently finished both series (the spreads are in my May Reading Journal video) - I ended up reading Caraval first and then OUABH! Idk if it was because I had low expectations for Caraval and so much hype for OUABH, but I actually enjoyed Caraval the most!! I hope you enjoy it too☺️ there’s definitely a little overlap with story/characters, but I think it’s totally fine to read them in whatever order. I bet you’ll love getting more of Jacks’ backstory in the first trilogy🥰
Love this gorgeous setup. I highly recommend reading Caraval before OUABH just to gauge the stage of where Jacks is after the events of the previous series.
I love Libby! I’ve used it for years. I am even registered at multiple libraries. :-) You gave some really good ideas for your journal. Thanks for sharing.
Oh nice!! Yeah I think I still have my old library card from the last place I lived so I’ve been meaning to see if I can add that one to Libby! Glad you got some ideas from the journal :)
@@lindalloyd5749 oh okay that’s awesome! I’m definitely going to download that, thank you. Maybe I can read some more National Geographic magazines that way.. my favorite :)
With Brando Sando I think Mistborn or Elantris (a stand-alone book, much easier to go through than the first Mistborn book) are the way to go if you are not familiar with his work :)
Ooh okay good to know about Elantris! I believe that’s been recommended to me before, so I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind if I can’t take on another series!!
Super excited for you to read Anna Karenina, one of my favourite books! The Brontë sisters are also some of my favourite authors 😊, I hope you enjoy the ones you plan on reading! And I also want to read A darker shade of magic and The shadow of the wind. I read Divine rivals and it was ok, but Once upon a broken heart was such a disappointment...
Ooh great, that gives me some good motivation for the classics!☺️ yeah I’m always a little nervous reading hyped books (especially fantasy) bc sometimes they fall so flat.. but the shadow of the wind was so good, would definitely recommend!!
You can totally read them without reading the Caraval series, Same world but different stories. There are some easter eggs you'll miss but they are not crucial. BUT, I did really love the Caraval series too.
The very beginning of once upon a broken heart will spoil the end of the caraval series. I would recommend reading the caraval books first to understand the world better and understand characters more
Mere Christianity and the Screwtape Letters are a couple of my absolute favourites!!!!!
Oh wonderful!! I’ve read chapters of mere Christianity but never cover to cover. I’m really excited for both :)
Great Divorce is absolutely great CS Lewis
I think Mistborn is a great place to start - it's my personal favorite of his, but Warbreaker is also a great option! It's a standalone and has a super cool magic system. It'll give you a great idea of what Brandon can do in just one book!!

The library is such a good resource!! I wish more people were aware :)
Yes! I definitely want to be more intentional about supporting the library and utilizing all its resources :)
I kind of went back and fourth between once upon a broken heart and caravel series… so honestly you can read them in either sequence. One way it’s like you’re reading a prequel, and the other way it’s like you’re reading a sequel. ❤

i just wrote my capstone on Wuthering Heights last semester! 😍
Oh that’s awesome!! So excited to finally read it this year
I love your reading journal setup.. And yes you need to read Caraval first.
Ooh ok thanks for the input!!☺️
I really love your reading journal. It is cute and creative.
It was also nice of you to show me how to print out the book covers from Goodreads. Tfs

Yes!! Whenever I picked up a Jane Austen book last year it often felt like a breath of fresh air☺️ so excited to continue with the Brontë sisters

I picked up both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre a few weeks ago because I too could not believe that I’d never read them 😂
Oh nice!! Yeah there’s a decent amount of classics I feel that way about haha
I have a similar label maker and it also jams. I love it when it works and hate it when it doesn’t. Also the 0 on mine just doesn’t work 😂
