@Todor Samardzhiev I'm seriously tired of this stupid ass argument. Comparing a games cost to real life is retarded. It should be compared only to the price of other games.
And unless they have fixed Iracings grip problems in the past 6 months, the game is not even realistic enough to directly compare to real life costs anyway.

Fun thing, my dad let me drive his car for the first time some days ago, he trusted me to drive since he knows I like sim racing and had decent knowledge on driving theoretically. Its has a bad side also, for my own experience at least. I also started first in sim racing, and now Im learning how to drive a real car. The main problem was the braking, I get so used to brake just when its necessary before a corner, that my dad really freak out when see me braking so late. Was difficult to get used on early braking. IMO, for a "completely beginner", Gran Turismo would still be a good start.
Though the physics isn't realistic enough comparing to ACC or Rf2, it has a well-designed driving school lessons for beginners to learn how to drive. Also understanding a track section by section through the circuit experience is very helpful.

Yes I agree too. If you’re trying to brainwash someone into the ways of simracing and they’ve never driven a car around a track before (or maybe don’t even drive), Gran Turismo Sport is the best way to start IMO. The driving school and circuit experience are the most digestible tutorials for learning how to drive a race car out there.

It has the best rear wheel drive, front wheel drive and open wheels cars for beginners. If GT4 is too fast for beginners, you can go for bmw m235i. But if you want GT4 without ABS, you can go for GT2. People said it's faster than GT4 but slower than GT3.
And if you want to start driving open wheels, you can start Formula Raceroom Junior before go for F4. Or just straight into F4.

    1. Raceroom Racing Experience (It is free, has amazing physics, both for pro's and beginners and has the best sounding car sounds in the world of racing games)
    2. Assetto corsa (You need to do some practice, and want to learn the pysics and such, how the car reacts, then you master the car and become 'good at it'. Assetto Corsa without any DLC's is fearly cheap to buy, has a huge modding community and easily one of the best sim racing games in history, thats why it is surviving for over (almost) 6 years)
    3. Project Cars (No, it is not the second or third gen, but the first one, it has cheap as h*ll and you have a 35% more of a arcady feeling then Assetto Corsa, but still, it is a very good game to begin with!)
    4. Dirt Rally ( this is the same story as Project Cars, it is is the first generation of the series, has fearly good graphics and is a bit more arcady then Dirt Rally 2.0)
    5. Any Formula 1 game before 2016 (This is the only good Formula-focused game thats gets its job done, here you can have different strategies and those have a huge impact on the race: Tyres? Medium, Hard, Soft, Hypersoft, Ultrasoft or Supersoft? The choice is your's!)

I went directly for Assetto Corsa and at the beginning I had to go through a lot of difficulties and frustration. Especially because I had to confront another important step, the one from "arcade racing games" to "full simulation" ones, and personally that was hard as hell. Plus, I never gave importance to the setup of the car, I kept on following that arcade mood where you don't need all of these kind of stuff. But then I progressively learnt, and I got better, well, at least to the point of not spinning every corner.

A few months after, starting to get interested in playing full-sims, I tried to dedicate myself into Assetto Corsa more, and now I'm having such a blast playing it. I won't say "better than pCars2" because in some aspects it's not, and I'm still playing it and it's still great to me. But Assetto Corsa has that little something that really got me into serious simracing. Progress made in pCars2 could be seen a little bit on AC, but the progress I was making in AC was even more noticeable in pCars2.
I bought rFactor2 a little while ago, and got repulsed a bit like Assetto Corsa the first time I played it. I definitely going to give it another try someday.

I'm actually surprised Project Cars 2 didn't make the list, but I understand. From a racing/driving perspective, it's not the most "sim" and has kinda mediocre force feedback unless you're willing to delve into custom files (PC only). But with the hue selection of cars and tracks, I kinda feel like it should be a contender.
Technically I got into racing way back with Gran Turismo 2 on the PS1, but I don't count the games before stuff with modern physics and tires and such. I guess I'd say I really started sim racing with the original Project Cars, but it was too hard on a gamepad and I didn't really get into things until years later when I got PCARS 2 and was enjoying it enough to spring for a TMX Pro wheel. After that it was down the rabbit hole. Now I spend a lot of time in rFactor 2, and recently picked up Automobilista 2. Great stuff.

I personally think starting sim racing with F1 is a good and bad option. Good because even if the cars are extremely fast, the grip and traction in corners is a lot easier to manage (less chance of spinning out). The bad is that you get used to the insane grip levels and when you play something like ACC its hard to relearn the braking points and the throttle/brake control to ease the cars through corners.
I started sim racing with F1 and I sometimes find it hard to relearn tracks for GT cars because I'm so used to the car going near full throttle around certain corners that slower and less grippy cars tend to struggle with compared to F1. I do think it's better to start slow and work your way up, slowly closing the braking zone gaps the faster the car but the F1 games from Codemasters is a very easy game to get into considering it's range of assists that help ease new players into racing games.

  • @TheKing-vb2bw

Driveclub always gets it. I think it's a pretty realistic sim but you MUST turn off ALL assists. I figured this out after a long time of playing it in VR- there is a basic menu for assists and then you must go deeper into the settings to find more assists you can turn off. After you turn off all assists it's definitely is a legit sim. Sadly, I don't think many ever went that deep into the settings so it gets remembered as more arcade-like.

I was a classic Colin McRae 2\3\2005 huge fan and nerd!) Played on keyboard or controller.
And now re-open car games for myself and family once again - good things - its forgotten old things)
After buying a wheel, it was really hard to decide where to go -to which game series. Love rally, but WRC series is .....meh....Only Dirt Rally\2 was more less option.
Also there are not much open world car games with good physics, and it was a miracle when i found put that Forza Horizon 5 was already 3rd game in series, that goes on PC...Wow... Graphics there and sim-arcade behavior of car, limitless car park, insane tuning just shocked me. Was quick to found Impreza and gone for off road racing events lol.
Not sure about modding over there, seems to be game dev's don't like if someone modding their game and change code)lol.
So my choice was BeamNG obviously. Cause i remember Spintires, and have already mighty SnowRunner on Havok engine, that at least not look like paper 😂(wonder if Havok engine capable to make same as BeamNG, cause they feel kind of similar in terms of car physics). In terms of high speed, after this video about it - Assetto Corsa get in my library instantaneously, and even without mods - the physics and behavior is gorgeous.
Apologies for not related comparison, but game isn't that old.
For example Squad is 2015 early access on Unreal Engine 4, and Insurgency Sandstorm is 2018 full release, so its fine. Battlefield 2\Project Reality is way older and its still on point, and seems to be there is no replacement for yet. Today are most important thigs - modding, physics, longevity and quality of game, as well as its features, gameplay and perfomance.
Wonder if i able to make simple arcade on UE4 or even UE 5) Will see.
Thank you again, that make my choice in this crazy world of sim racing easier !

I agree with the list except for iRacing. I would have put Gran Turismo in there instead. Even when you have money to burn, iRacing isnt a friendly platform at all. Its cumbersome and there are all these bits and things you need to do just to get the ball rolling. iRacing is for die-hard racing freaks with experience. Assetto Corsa though sure deserves a huge number 1 to it. Its as friendly or as hard as you want it to be. It can be pure racing or even "arcade-sh" if you want it to be. The mod community is insane and there isnt a track or a car or a weather that you cant mod into it. AC is perfect.

Thank you for this detailed review, and I like the fact, that it sounds as if you say fuel simulation when you mean full simulation. It coincidentally fits like a charm 😆👍

Well I'm confused. You say it's important for beginners wanting to learn that the sim be realistic, so you exclude arcade games (I agree). Your opening chart showed Automobilista 2 firmly (and correctly) in the realistic category, and yet it doesn't even make the top 5?? I have bought and tried at length all the Sims you listed, plus both Automobilista titles, and in my opinion I have learned more about car control and the fundamentals of racing through AMS's excellent physics, especially driving the lower powered cars like the Puma GT5 and the Formula Trainers. You are quite correct I think to mention the importance of starting in lower powered cars, but they should still be a challenge to drive if you're going to learn anything useful.
AMS2 is still a work in progress, that's true, but it's at a really advanced stage now and an absolute joy for me to drive. I do still have fun firing up Assetto Corsa now and then, but it feels so easy and far less realistic to drive compared to AMS2. I was a complete beginner in the summer of 2019 and now I'm somewhat competent, overwhelmingly due to the time I've spent in AMS1 and AMS2. Don't get me wrong, AC is a ton of fun, and it is the first title I started out with. I only wish I'd discovered Automobilista sooner than I did.

why does the assetto corsa (1st game) feels like I´m driving the cars on ice, no matter what vehicle I chose even F1 car is sliding all over the place and I have turned abs and tc all the way up, oh and I´m playing on ps4 using the controller

Thanks for this video. I think I'm decided to get Assetto Corsa especially the very tempting Steam sale right now.
I know these top N videos is always arguable and debatable but I'd take your advice. I think the main thing that sold me to it is that you can just drive casually which what I kinda enjoy now with games like GTA V and Euro Truck Sim. But lately I'm getting really interested with racing as I'm getting into F1 after watching Drive To Survive :)
I know people will laugh but I do win races in Forza Horizon 4 with Average AI and all assists off :D
    I have a Logitech G29 setup.

Gran Turismo 4 was my first proper simulated driving experience, I would say GT4 was the first driving game that allowed the full human car driving motions to be replicated with the support and introduction of the 900-degree force feedback wheel.

I got a G923 and Assetto Corsa a few months ago and I agree with most of what is said in this video. I also got Raceroom to play a bit more casually and I also liked the realism in Rfactor 2. I do have a very low end laptop and I'm surprised of how well Assetto Corsa runs and looks lowest graphic settings.
I do have to say that in AC it takes a bit of time to properly learn each Track and Car, I never used assists and watched some real life footage and telemetry. I also had to research a bit and learn a bit about car setups. In some situations it made a huge diference. Carreer mode without assists it's the oposite of any arcade game experience. It's going to be hard but you'll learn something on every step. Using content manager with raceu, worldsimseries has been a real improvement with multplayer, mods and finding races every day almost at any time.
