I'm sure Gary and Kirk have their fans and deserve their props, but Peter Green was extraordinary
The VERY BEST.
As a big Peter Green, a Gary Moore fan, and the player of the Les Paul myself I really enjoyed this! Thank you to whomever created this video!❤️ far out👍🏼
Peter green was the best reason to stay away from mind altering substances there was.
Psychedelics significantly affects people with schizophrenia and is a massive no-no. The fact that Green was undiagnosed and took LSD resulted in a very sad outcome.
The doctors did more damage to him than the drugs. If he didnt have mindless butchers electrocuting hus brain and doping him with massive amounts of sedatives for years on end, he might have fully recovered to his old self.
He was spiked very very heavely at a party he was ment to play at a dose nobody should take I belive it was that what sent him over
@@Narrowboat.and.offgrid.living Danny Kirwan attended that same party and ultimately suffered a very similar fate as Peter. Whatever it was that Peter and Danny were dosed with took down two great artists in one fell swoop.
And that money is the root of all evil in this world.
Psychedelics cause self reflection and Peter didn't like his reflection. He chose God over money.
I respect him massively for that. Very humble man.
Money isn't everything and Peter Green teaches us that.
I admire him for that. He had a giant heart.
Love Peter Green! He is what made those famous sounds not just the guitar. The reason the middle position is out of phase is because the magnet was flipped in the neck position pickup. Not because of the entire pickup orientation
Amazing story, I heard that guitar sound live by Gary Moore in early 90's in Kentish Town Country Club now its called O2 Forum in north London, lovely live music venue, mid size, historic building with great acoustics, he used that guitar for only one song "Still Got the Blues for You" and the tone was mesmerizingly penetrating the souls of the lucky audience, it was truly a gut wrenching performance and an unforgettable night. Peace. ✌
Gary and Peter were a huge influence in getting me to play more than metal. I'm glad Kirk got the guitar in the end. It deserves to be played, and not kept in a box hidden in some unknown collectors cellar.
RIP Gary and Peter 🤟
Moore was taken under Peter’s wing. Peter told Gary that if he sold his best guitar that Peter would take whatever money Gary got. Gary Moore is a guitar legend. Not sure how someone says Gary wasn’t good enough. You sure you’ve heard Gary’s career work?
Gary was always a special kind of player even when he was 16 yo in Skid Row.
So you're saying that Peter told Gary that if he sold his best guitar that Peter would take whatever money Gary got ? Sounds familiar, where have I heard that before ? oh I know, in the video that I just watched.
thanks for the story, good to see it ended up with someone who really appreciates it.
The neck was broken in two places. The headstock and the heel. The UK luthier/repairman who repaired it, (Charlie Chandler) after Gary's car was rear ended, confirmed so.
what about the Neck Pickup being fixed? I seen some vids on it.
Very interesting, love all the owners, thanks for posting.
Great post! I knew most of the story. Didn't know the stipulations that Gary put on the guitars next owner when he sold it. Even though his wishes were eventually dishonored I'm happy he thought enough of the guitar to do it. One thing I find very interesting is that the Joe Perry Gibson "Boneyard Burst" has the "Greeny" mod built into it!! There is also a Epiphone version of the "Boneyard" that is set up the same way, The Epi version was made in 2004 thru possibly 2006. It was a quite short run of 2 or 3 years. It has Gibson Burst Bucker 2 & 3 pick ups in it!! I'd love for Kirk to plug that Epi into a Marshall, crank it up and get his opinion of the sound!!! We might be in for a hell of a surprise!!!!
great content!
Great video, especially the KH section - never knew the Les Paaul had suffered a neck break.
Peter is one of greatest ever one of my favourite ever loved him in mac
Great video and I think the guitar is fantastic I would love to have a go on it , I don't get the black nail polish thing though 🤔
I don't think Kirk will add much of any substance to this guitar's story. He can afford it, that's all.
Was thinking the same thing
My thoughts entirely. If only it had gone to a musician who deserved it, rather than the one who could afford it.
Absolutely right
It should go to the hall of fame I get it but it should be played but I get it but ending up with Metallica ya I get it.
He's right. I broke my 1992 Les Paul and it's still my favorite guitar.
We’ve all heard of the out of phase character this particular instrument has but have heard it was due to a wiring screw up and several other theories but this is the best explanation this non-guitar player has heard that makes sense especially the reversed pick-up bit I didn’t know about. But I have heard it played and it definitely is different in a ephemeral sort of way. Unique 😉
I think I read that while considering the purchase, Kirk called Jimmy Page for advice. From what I understand Jimmy said "I know that guitar...you NEED to buy it!"
Chris Tapp from The Cold Stares has a couple of them and making a tribute album
When Kirk bought the guitar. It was restored & set up by Bill Puplett in the UK, legendary guitar repairer.
Really Kirk you think it belongs in the rock and roll hall of fame, I very much doubt that's the sentiment of the previous musicians that owned it, collecting dust in a silly American institution that doesn't honour many many genuine guitar legends like Rory Gallagher for instance, I'm glad to see it being used on stage which is exactly where it belongs.
Seen him live at the usher Hall Edinburgh, splinter group. Sublime 🏴😎
Amazing..I know just what he's saying about the out of phase tone in the middle position , it's totally unique to that guitar. It's a true juggernaut of a guitar...wish I had the money for it!!! Great video
After watching this I feel an urge to reverse my 57 classic neck pickup on my vintage Les Paul Traditional guitar which is already lovely as it's..
you have to reverse the magnet not just the pick up to get the out of phase effect
I always thought the best sounding 59 gary owned was stripe, I would have that one every time
I have a saying, " once you lend, sell or give an item away, you lose your control over what happens to it " .
Gary seems to conveniently forget that part of the "deal" about the sale/swap of the guitar was that if Peter wanted the guitar back he would sell it back for what he paid for it. Peter Greenbaum did ask for his guitar back, but Gary refused......to put it politely.
Funny how two of the most legendary instruments, in history, are within Metallica's care. :'D Kirk Hammett is the 'curator' of Peter Green's 'Greeny', and Robert Trujillo is the same for Jaco Pastorius' 'Bass of Doom'. Even better, Trujillo owns the 'Bass of Doom', but leaves any and all future decisions, regarding its wellbeing, in the hands of Jaco's family. Now, that's HEART.
Funny thing is, you cant tell the Peter Green guitar from "Stripe", Garys main 59 Les Paul. You showed here many clips where actually Stripe (Ser. No. 9-2227) is shown, not the Peter Green Guitar (9-2208).
Agree! Stripe had the covers on the PAF's whereas greenie had exposed pu's. Stripe is a hell of a 59! Gary got stripe from Phil Harris. What became of stripe after Gary passed?
Wrong. Opposite is true.
@@woodybowen5362 Yes my mistake. The one with the covers is the Greenie. Just goes to show how close they are to one another😁
@@These_go_to_eleven_1959 Gary Moores son got Stripe
@@geoffmcmahon4453 Thank you! 👍
Kirk Hammet has it
USA out of phased front pickups on Gibs in the 70's works better on ES-335 types than Pauls
Too bad Kirk Hammett will never leverage the potential of this guitar....
What he doesn’t have the vibrato, accurate bends and supreme tone of the previous two primary owners?😁
Respectfully, I don't think you realize his depth or versatility as a player.
Very much underutilized in Metallica.
I don't dislike Metallica mind you, but I am certainly no fan.
Kirk?
Epitomizes the underrated player overshadowed by the colossal entity that employs him.
Too bad you ain't kirk
Kirk has it
If I remember rightly Green said Clapton's Les Paul with the Bluesbreakers was a one-off beatiful instrument and his was not great with a tree trunk neck.
Kirk 'Just listen to the sustain'
Interviewer ‘I can’t hear anything'
Kirk 'We'll you would if it was playing'
Love it, a definate Spinal Tap moment!
And we never got to here a bloody note !
What I would do to be a switch on this guitar in 1971in Sweden. While Peter Greene Jamming
What happened to the guitar? Kirk Hammett of the metal band Metalica has it 😮
Peter sold it to Gary Moore for what ever he got for selling his SG....."It's like trading guitars''
after that, i give up.....
I've seen this guitar played by Peter and Gary, as well as Joe Bonamassa.
I didn't realize that Kirk had ladies hands. Nice shade of black too. I'm sure it helps him play better. I think he uses RuPaul's nail tech Haaaaaaaaa
A mate of mine bought it from a thief for £50 repainted it and most reprehensibly rewired it because as he explained to me “it was wired wrong “ and sold it on eBay 😂. Prove me wrong.
Today it plays thrash metal.
Thrash metal?
That someone else is God.All talent comes from God, its up to us to give the credit to him or praise our own egos.
I have a copy of "instant Peter Green" if someone is interested.
Kirk hammets got it. Save your time
Its still only a 59 Standard, it's earlier history is much like any other 59 Standard, it was nice it was put on the map by a fairly good player who had some radio play for what the guitar was seen by him performing etc but a good guitar being passed on eventually to the likes of a Gary M was a nice move to keep it breathing too, I'm glad this latest owner is looking after it and respects it's history too...nice story!
It's just a piece of wood and it looks nasty as hell 🤢
@@emilnilsson4320 Yeah it's a well used battle-axe, I'm cool with the players history being respected but the buying price is just plain crap quite frankly...retire it to a museum instead and be fair I reckon.
Fairly good player? …. 🙄
@@emilnilsson4320Some of the BEST pieces, that gave me WOOD, were NASTY!!
I am glad that Kirk ended up with Greeny.
He is a phenomenal talent...far more versatile than most realize. He honors the instrument and it's history and he is in a position to protect and conserve it.
Interesting content here.
Good to see this guitar being used and appreciated by a musician and not sitting in some bank vault as part of some hedge fund managers investment portfolio.
We all know ....... But how much Kirk ?
I know of twi people who might buy that guitar if it came up for grabs, that would be Joe bonamasa or Brian setzer, both 59 fans. I'm sure there would be others that would love to have it , but those are the two people that come to mind first. With that being said I don't Kirk wil let it go at any price.
Its a guitar. I have one like it ion my home, well, i have 4 like it!
It got weird
Great story, that lost its interest when it got to Kirk Hammet
His tone made me sweat?
Having been a long term fan of Peter Green, Gary Moore and Metallica I have this to say.
The previous owners could really make this guitar sing. However, it's wasted on Kirk Hammet.
They guy is average at best and has absolutely nothing worth saying on the guitar.
So many other fantastic players it should have gone to.
It's all come down to money and Kirk is a very rich man.
The guy uses so much tech filters and effect that it's pointless him playing it. The thing is, Green played with little to no sound modulation. He just turned that LP up and used his fingers, his ears and his own mind.
Gary sold it due to a divorce
Ooofff, look at his fingernails at 0:11
So what.
sad Hammet has this guitar
Why would Kirk Hammett buy it a metal guy. He’s. not going to bring out the full tones out of it
...and then Kirk scratched his initials into it! Sad But True.
It's his now
I would rather kirk have it then some snob who doesnt even know how to play.
Sad it ended up with such a crappy guitarist
"Oh Well..!!!"
Cant help about the shape he's in...
Can't sing and his legs are thin.. "
Kirk Hammett looks physically ill.
Metallica music is pretty nasty.
Some of it is pretty good
'Sausage Fest' Male Machine
Gunn Music.
And the guitarhas been f' Ed up in a car wreck.
Probably the result of a bad driver.
The Karma is all wrong since leaving
Peter Green's hands
That Les Paul is in the wrong hands.
Moore wasn't good enough to take that guitar.
wtf , better than peter green and kirk hammett by far , now its in a useless guitarists hands , absolute shame its been wasted now
Lmao ok then who was?
Thats real bullshit and you know it!
@@orbitaljellyfish808 Probably no one.
And Kirk Omelet even less 😆
Most people don’t know this but Gary Moore is the Greatest of all time, just a little Jucy Tid Bit I didn’t want to keep to myself. I know that people are going to say that Beck,EVH,JIMI,Green, and so many others are the Greatest and I totally agree and feel the same way that there are many who are the Greatest and they are in a class not by themselves.
I thought that after Gary Moore died he willed it to his son Jack? Was this true?
nope
Плохо, что инструмент находится сейчас у дилетанта .
