Making a surface slightly textured before applying glue, resin, nail polish on your nails does help secure the coating to your item & prevents peeling & chipping off. You can do this with a bit of sandpaper or nail files can do the job. You only need to do a quick go over, you only need to roughen it up a little over the whole surface before applying anything. And I always do one small coating of glue & varnish before applying the second layer to stick down anything just to cover up the textured surface
As someone that has got a teenager, I can assure you that she Will LOVE It, so I ' m honestly looking forward to making one of these pens soon. Thank you so much my friend
My dear resin buddy, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos!!! Not only are they so informative but I think your personality is as sweet and dazzling as your glitter! I’m looking for ways to make money so I can retire!!! I’m 66 years old and I’ve been working full time for the last 35 years!!! I’m also working on flower pressed art. Once again, thanks for your excellent tutorials and splashing your audience with your uplifting enthusiasm and energy! 🎉🙏🏼💗☺️
Been watching you more and more for good, practical advice and projects as I consider my first steps in resin. You're so much fun and the info you provide is invaluable. Cheers!
This is yet another great idea! I've been planning on making pens, but I wasn't too keen on making the ones using a mold with an pen insert you can't change, because they'd be pretty short lived and might dry out, and a custom pen is something you might want to keep for a long time. This method solves that problem. Thank you, a million times, thank you! 💗 Also, I hope the resin you use is available in the EU, I've been looking for a good UV resin, hopefully for a reasonable price.
Oh, wonderful! I am one of the people who love the RSVP brand of pens. These come so close to the 'heft' of them and now the tubes can be customized! Thank you!
How much do you sell your pens for? I'm in Canada so I know the price isn't going to be exactly the same but it would help give me a rough idea I'm terrible at pricing things. And can you send a link for the cricket?
What a great idea for classrooms, teachers, friends and families! I love pens also! I never thought to do this! I love them!!! Amazing!! You just rock!! Another video that just made my day!
Hello! I just love all your content! I just got a circuit maker 3 and have no clue how to use it lol I sure would LOOOOOVE it if u did some circuit videos or started a 3rd channel for that! I'm surely I'm not the only one who we could follow you there too 😊
Steve, your pens came out truly beautiful. I am gathering all I need to start making my pens, but with epoxy. However, I am thinking on trying a few with uv because it looks so easy and I have everything. I am scare of the fumes because I am highly asthmatic and my doubt is, what kind of mask do you wear. Thank you for sharing.
CA glue (superglue, crazy glue, etc.) is often used by pen turners for a finish.. while the UV resin in this use is of the same idea, it makes me wonder if CA would be an option for that first coat, though perhaps it is too fast while buying a lathe just for the finishing would be incredibly impractical, they do make dedicated stations just for turning a pen as you apply finish to it... then again making one with a rotisserie motor or even a clock movement seems like it would be easy enough
The prices on the 500gram bottle went way up!!!! I was so upset when I went to get another bottle of it and it was increased in price by $10!!! I like The JDiction uv resin and I like Puodo or Poudo not sure of the spelling lol…. Those pens are brilliant!!!!! I never would have thought about using actual pens and then adding resin to them…. Going to try that with a couple of pens Inhabe lying around…. Gotta try it out on icky pens first lol… not pricey ones…:)
Steve, beautiful work! I love watching your videos and seeing what you create. And I'm sure you do too, so I'd like to add one more really important piece of PPE to those you mentioned: SUNGLASSES! Full spectrum, or at least for UVA AND UVB. Check the label. Also, if you must hold your work under the torch, point the torch away from you so you're not looking into the light source. Sure, some light will reflect into your eyes, but you won't get the full brunt of all that UV radiation on your eyeballs. Too much light (UV and visible) causes/contributes to CATARACTS. I'm not a doctor, but that's what mine told me. Yup, I have cataracts from a lifetime of going without proper sunglasses. So UV resin art isn't the primary cause of my cataracts, but it sure didn't help.
Another awesome video 👏👏. I've been wanting to try my hand at pens but just didn't know.... This sealed the deal 🥰! Thank you. BTW, JDiction resin IS the best UV Resin. I'd given up on UV Resin till you told me about them a while back. Now I do all kinds of things in it 😀.
I saw someone else's tip that takes transparent pages for the regular inkjet printer to make similar stickers for resin work. I think it was about $8 for 10 pages more or less. I plan to try it once I get my printers black ink working again. I keep procrastinating since I'll probably have to call them on it.
Which of the UV resin would I use? I have the high viscosity by JDiction and I don’t have the regular like you showed, mine says high viscosity on the label. Is that ok to use? I’ve always made pens with regular epoxy and putting them on the turner, I am very nervous using the UV resin and making them this way, but I’d love to give it a try. If this UV resin would work I’ve got three bottles of it. I’m going to be making some wood grain pens and I’m hoping it would work with those. Thanks!! *Edited…typo. I said “velocity” when it should have been “viscosity” 🤦🏼♀️
Can you use vinyl wrap or printed vinyl wrap and use this resin on top of it? I was thinking about usin fabric as well and putting this resin over it. Hope so as this is pretty easy resin to do pens. I think I would use my drill so I can slowly turn it to level resin an turn with drill to cure too lol
These r great Steve!!! I have a shallow tea light candle holder that I made a lid for when I want to do something like this. U could catch ur drips or just decant some n it n dip ur finger n it brush. Just an idea 😉
Love the pen idea with resin. Unfortunately I bought the JDiction resin you use in your video and it was sticky even after using rubbing alcohol to remove the stickiness. I have a different brand I use and it's not sticky for me. Would love if you had Canadian links on all your videos. Keep up the awesome experimenting and for the awesome ideas!
Think these are great thought I'd give them ago got the JD uv resin that was recommended but following your video I can't get the resin to set can you give advice please
love your videos Steve and you are one of the UA-camrs that inspired me to take up the craft it's so much fun and at times very rewarding in saying that i've only been doing it for 6 - 7 months just wish i wasn't as sensitive to it but hayho My question is .. can you make moulds from tinfoil to put plaster of paris in then when the shape has set use it to make a silicone mould and can you make them have a shine? I've been looking for a good druzy mould for making pendants and the only ones i can find are extortionate and then there's the postage ie; for 2 moulds and the P&P is over £100 mind you that is from Australia but haven't seen anything as good anywhere else and it would be good to start making my own. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work we all look forward to seeing your cheery face and happy personality :)
Steve. I have a question, when you showed us a video of using a piece of plastic to use as a mold you used a little gun plastic. Do you spray mold release and let it in the mold or wipe it out, as I have used plastic and had a terrible time getting it to release. Many thanks, I just LOVE your videos.
I cant for the life of me find any pens without the pocket clip attached to the button and the added comfort grip and its really driving me crazy. I am in the UK do you have any new suggestions @Steve MacDonald Arts and Crafts ?
Hello 😊 Can you tell, how bad this uv resin smell? Almoust all what i am use, smell horrible and i come migraine and my lungs burn 😔 I use resperator, but still i try found uv resin no smell. Thank you 😊
Hi Steve looking for advice please. JDICTION has a 'non toxic' uv resin on Amazon would I still need to wear the breathing equipment? It's states that it is non toxic but surely its still the same chemicals? I really would appreciate advice from anyone who can help please thanks x
@Diane G ALL resin gives off toxic fumes until the curing process is complete, no matter what type of resin is being used, if that is helpful? I love JDiction resin, both epoxy and UV as the fumes given off seem minimal (I have asthma and it doesn't bother me for some reason), BUT...it *will* bother you if you have a sensitivity to any of the chemicals or compounds.
I just watched your channel video that popped up when this video loads. You look great with the beard! I like nice short and trimmed beards. Hoping you'll go back to it.
Anyone having problems with this resin curing? I left it under the light multiple times and even submerged the coaster in cold water as recommended in the instructional booklet. Still no luck. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's really cool! I really like those. That looks a lot easier than some other methods that I have seen.
Thank you for sharing such brilliant tips. Great content on your page 👏👏

Something that may help with your pens... "Makeup brush holder" has little areas JUST BIG ENOUGH for pencils...
Thank you for sharing. Very nice.
I love them!
Had no idea you could do that with a regular pen. Love them. Really really cool.🥰🥰🥰🌟🌟🌟🐾🐾🐾
Thank you Steve for all your videos. You make resin learning very easy. 🌷

For photo editing on my phone I use Adobe lightroom. It's free and the auto edit feature is enough 99% of the time. You can add custom watermark too

I would like to know this as well. Thank you.

Why doesn’t he tell us?

For the darker colors maybe use lighter colored lettering?
Try making glo in the dark or neon ones

It is called an "oasis". It is used for holding live flowers in position.

How much would you sell your pens for Steve, there beautiful ❤️
Great video. One question does the uv resin cause the same type of allergic reactions as apoxy resin?
Yes it can
What would be a good price point to start selling them for?
For time saving purposes, why not just dip the mod podge covered pen into the container of sparkles?
They all clump up when you do that, and you leave glue in the container which causes more lumps
What is the 'torch' that you use?
Flashlight
I never have to do that to get the pocket clip. Always manage to break them off no bother. Fidget.
I'm in the US. Anytime I sell my crafts I feel like I'm afraid 2 charge what I should. What would u charge 4 these? TY!

i was wondering why you couldnt add the stickers before the resin so you only have to coat once?
