There are hair spray that come in a plastic pump bottle.
With that one you can remove the sprayer and use the hair spray as you would paint and apply exactly where you want.
I switched to the pump bottle in like the 80s.
    Just a thought.

After using warm soapy water to rub off the hairspray, is there a ridge that you can feel with your fingers? If so, try rubbing some interference mica into it. Unless I miss my guess, the mica will collect into the edges of this depression and essentially form a border around the hairspray areas. Carefully (so you don’t disturb the mica) pour a top coat in UV resin and cure. I can’t help but picture all the dark spots in that coaster rimmed in gold! I’ll be trying this later.

Awesome! I wondered if you can use nail polish in resin? I've tried drying it on the mold and then putting resin on top, but making patterns flowy in the resin would be awesome.

    1) Use labradorite technique to make shape with "smoked edges".
    2) Hairspray silicone mat & dry.
    3) Dust hairsprayed mat with black mica powder.
    4) Adhere back of shape (from step 1) to hairspray mica pattern with clear resin, cure, & then seal with a thin layer of clear resin.
    5) Dust sealed back side with green chameleon interference powder, & finish labradorite "scratch" technique. Seal back with black resin.
This should yield an effect whereby the hairspray spots appear to be flakes of iridescence suspended within a smoky shape.

Hi Daniel. What a brilliant hack! Your brain obviously works overtime. Do you ever sleep?😂
Silhouette hairspray by Schwarzkopf is a super hold lacquer and might work really well for your needs. Here in New Zealand, it’s only available from hairdressers. I don’t know if it’s the same in England. Also, did you realise that some hairsprays are available in pump bottles, rather than gas propelled? It might make it easier to spray exactly where you want it. 🌹❣️

Does the hairspray chemically react with the silicon? Or is it just hard to clean? If the latter might I suggest washing mats and molds with shampoo.

That's really lovely! I can't wait to try it! You should try out some press'n seal, I did it the other week, and got some really nice effects with it, it's like a lizard/snake skin effect.

@@daniel..cooper It's the glad press'n seal wrap on a roll (comes ina yellow box). I fill up my uv resin to almost the top,and gently press to press n seal over the back and cure it to where the back of the resin is still a bit tacky, and gently peel off the wrap, dust it, and black back it, chameleon powders make it pretty wild looking, It's a smaller effect than the hairspray, but way more detailed than masking tape. I think you'd like it.

What if you poured a cabochon, then lightly spritzed it with hairspray, then swirled the very center, like you do with some of your universe designs? I wonder if the spray would A. stay on the surface and B. form a spiral resist pattern?
