This reminds me of my 95 mini pickup. It was T-boned in the driver door and repaired badly so I cut out the whole rocker panel and half up the door jam and a foot an a half into the floor pan. I welded in a new piece from a junkyard truck. I didn't have seam sealer handy so I just used liquid nails which actually worked really well. I like how you did the body mounts. This is really turning into a cool little truck.
Using raptor liner or bed liners have been known to lock in moisture in areas like that, so it would be best to just coat the entire floor in por-15 or another rust proofing and then paint over top of that.
@@austinniemela ill let the op answer for moisture concerns, but just speaking from experience, as ive essentially built a scaled back version of what you're building. it looks rad yes, but the durability wasn't quite what i hoped for, and cleanup was hard, texture holds dirt wonderfully. though, you did say plan is to eventually cover with something....so eh? you do you boo. lol
My reactions: -Hole in the passenger side floor. "Dang" -Pulling the dash apart. "Sheesh!" -Pulling up the carpet. "Eww, gross!" -Sweeping up the trash. "Peppermint patties!" -Chiseling the caked dirt and noise/sealing foam. "Krikey Moses!" -Appearance of the purple sprayer. "Yep, keep goin'..." -Appearance of the pressure washer. "YESSSSSSSS!" And as always I appreciate your fabrication skills, and watch them in silence, with awe. I'm always most impressed when you say that you don't really have a plan for something and then it comes out looking 💯 %
I’d avoid rhino lining the interior. All the rust is an indicator of where the water pools. And even if you rhino’d it, water will still find a way in. Better off wiring wheel/blasting the entire cab and start fresh. RustCon, POR15, good amount of paint. Love the work man!
I know through the power of editing you cruised through the disassembly, but man I know how much of a pain it was trying to get that old sound deadening off. Using dry ice mixed with some isopropyl alcohol, and pouring the slushy on top of the deadening makes it pop right off. Love how this build is coming together!!
I was going to use raptor liner or use lizard skin in my pickup and ended up going with Noico mat + foam. The reason why I didn't go with raptor liner is because you're not supposed to be enclosed with it. Lizard skin works good and is very similar, and meant for interior. Excellent work on the rust repair. Looks great!
Coming together Austin. Spot weld cutter worked really well. Made it easy to remove bad panel with out have to destroy it with a grinder or chisel. Use to replace door skins and panels way back, wish I had that cutter back then.
I am from Pakistan i see yours video properly you r a genius mind I watched your video Suzuki carry I am also Suzuki pickup 1984 model and Lancer car 1989 model i like old car
Dude, you're killing it on this one. 👏 I've always loved these little trucks. This one is one of the lucky ones that will be saved from the scrap pile. Keep the videos rolling m
When I did my Toyota I wired wheel got it completely clean put rhino liner inside the cab and underneath the cab and sealed it up good that’s what I would do good video keep up the good work can’t wait to see your next one thank you
Idk if you’ll see this or not but. They make welding wire that’s for sheet metal. The stuff I have is called “soft grind” melts at a little cooler temp helps a lot with warping and easier to grind flat. If you do much sheet metal it’s worth having a little spool of it laying around! I used it when I cut my 88 toyota in half and make a factory looking 4 door
Hahaha so much for I'm not really gonna do much to this truck, kinda just keep it as a rust bucket sleeper. Here we are 10 videos later on a full build hahaha love it!
that is some nice repair !! just did my 01 tacoma this week not that bad just a tiny hole on the driver side fixed it and i paint the entire floor whit spray paint .. i dont put the carpet back since it hold moisture and make the floor rust very fast !
Austin you need to get a needle scaler HF has a small one that works good it makes quick work of getting of heavy rust and scale, then wire brush the rest.
@@joyoptimal6286 , my wish for persons with Austin's talent would be to find companies who invest with money and products to give him the opportunity to grow sharing and inspiring people with his skills. Beyond that I hope the youtube monetize him for his content.
Great job in this video. For the interior, I think you should take the same approach as the engine compartment and go full luxury. Chuck the plastic bits of the dash and remake them out of metal. Maybe save the cluster, but install new gauges. An autometer sport comp would look nice. I had a cluster like that in my 510, and byou could have mounted a lighthouse light behind those gauges and they still would be hard to see at night. Another idea would be swapping in 89-95 dash, or a Tacoma dash. But I think a metal dash would be awesome. Oh, but whatever you do for the interior, save room for the drift handle!
Great work, you should look into citric paint stripper. Coat the floor, cover with plastic and the any old floor sealer and junk will easily scrap away. Apply wait 24hrs and enjoy the ease of removal. This build like always if amazing.
On your rust situation, clean it up and wire brush it.get some Osmo and coat entire area and leave it until you add sound deadner .same with bottom of cab.good video and keep doing what your doing.future builds if you need to remove sound deadner from floor, cowl, wherever.try dry ice you can get the deadner will just come up.very easily.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Awesome job man. You should invent a welder that can be turned down enough to weld thin metal. If a guy didn't have to start and stop so much he could make it purdy.
I did some Siless sound deadening on my 1st gen Tacoma and it made a huge difference and only cost me $60. Might be a more effective solution than the raptor liner ? Might be something to consider if you're trying to make it a nice place to sit. Fantastic job on the metal work !
hello 🖐 have wondered how you manage to keep all the clips, washers, bolts, etc ... . do you label and place in a container or something like? thank you 🤔
I have heard good and bad about the Raptor lining on the inside ??? Oddly enough good on the bottom outside paint matched. A good sound deadening material is a real plus. Look up LMC truck parts to see if they have dash and carpet.... the idea of bucket seats is nice touch and a custom console 👌... I have watched you long enough to know you have a rough idea of the finished product already in your head lol. Your doing a great job and I look forward to seeing what's next.
Nice work Austin, Wanna tackle my 88 Toy 4x4 send it to a shop for a 3.0 to 3.4 swap and never got completed. Shop close down and took my hard earn money from deployment.
I had that mystery horizontal crack on my windshield when I bought my 2004 Tacoma. I have a theory that is is caused by putting the defrost heat on full blast with a frozen windshield. What do you think?
Obviously it’s too late for this one, but look into the dry ice method to remove that sound deadening. The dry ice makes it real brittle and you can pop a lot of it up pretty easy. Keep up the good work!
Dang you sponsored by Milwaukee yet? Lol the truck looks amazing. You should consider bucket seats from the 89-95 toyota pickup or 4runner. They look like they would fit.
what I like about old cars is that any part can be easily disassembled and repaired 👍👍👍
Cheers from Yakutia!

Love your work 🔥
Dry ice is your friend for removing sound deadening. 🥸
I'm not qualified to critique what you do, but it is inspiring and entertaining, also gives guys like me inspiration to try it ourselves - thank you.
Watching your videos gives me faith that there is still real craftsmen around the place. It looks amazing man.
Your work ethic is impressive.
Man, you sure make it look easy. Great, quality work.
Glad you're doing this before I start mine, because I'm a noob so I have no idea what I'm doing. Thanks for sharing the info!
You have really good metal working skills very methodical! Another very good video. Love the content.
First time in forever I've seen you without a hat! 😮
Whoa!!! Either a court date or anniversary date!!! Looking squeaky clean!!!
Using raptor liner or bed liners have been known to lock in moisture in areas like that, so it would be best to just coat the entire floor in por-15 or another rust proofing and then paint over top of that.
Agreed, perhaps some rust converter first then POR15.
seconded (thirded? whatever..lol) plus with raptor if your prep isnt amazing. it'll lift, for sure
I also agree no bed liner or raptor liner . just por 15 and a good top coat of regular paint.
How would raptor be different than paint? Both are a urethane coating, raptor just being textured! I’m still undecided

The build-up to the pressure washer kept me focused! 😆

While it is the most rewarding, replacing rusted out body is always such a pain in the ass... Good job as always.
U r so thorough... pure dedication. And everything explained simply. Great videos! Can't wait for the next one

Well Done Sir 👏
Enjoying the build.
Had a 78 back then and would like to build a new one.
Currently working on An 89 x-cab.
Flock the dash. Black!
They look so good.
Would love to see a full resto-mod done to the truck. Such a cool old truck deserves the full Austin treatment 🤟🏻🤟🏻
You are an absolute gangster over there performing heavy metal fabrication and welding in shorts 🤣 epic! You sir are the man!
Brooo you should do a Prerunner build next, your skill dedication and expertise would make the perfect truck!

Love the way you do your replacement panels. Just make sure to show how you get rid. Of the rest of the rust.
Great work Austin! This is really coming along great! Can't wait to continue watching the progress of this build!
I like when you say I never did this kind of metal work and the end result is a professional piece of work lol 👍
Nice.My friend.I love Toyota Truck.
I never get taller of watch your videos
Chemical dip whole cab? Beautiful work!

Hi , Excellent preparation and workmanship my friend , I would have liked to have seen some weld through primer used ... greetings from the UK..😁😁😁😁
Awesome work Austin.
Great job on the cab repairs.
Fan of this man's work💪👍
Floor pans are one of the main things holding me back from getting a project truck haha they are expensive to fix once the rust gets to them.
good video
Thank you for great videos.

Dont mind the comments . The music used in your videos is awesome. Sure its a lot of editing for those videos, appreciate it
Awesome job as always👍
Another great work, Austin! Congratulations!
Let's see the next step soon.
I always wondered what Austin did for work for living. Looks like his hobby projects and UA-cam takes most of his time.

Sweet I might have to try this deadener out!
Great content 🫡 Love from South Africa
Weld through primer? I started laughing when you looked different from the start of the video compared to the end. Toyota’s will do that to ya!!
Keep those hearts on the pillar if you ever do a repaint plz.
Good job man
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 amazing job as always
Hell yea deffenily awsome brother bless day full on point

new hairstyle looks sharp
How do you keep track of all the nuts and bolts?
Damn, nice work!!
Yeah man, nice work!
here is a youtuber that does automotive sheet metal and shows alot of useful tips and tricks Fitzee's Fabrications
Copper hard lines in the bay would look so good with the bronze
great job mate!!
These models have a trend to rust the frame near the fuel tank. Since it's too close to it, and it gathers mud and derbies.
same as my 86 pickup.. 92 4runner and 01 tacoma
Curious why your not using those metal saws vs a cutoff wheel. Not happy with them?

Awesome work that truck is going to be fantastic... Have you thought about converting it to 87 for more HP?
Make sure you use a good sealer before raptor liner
There’s carpet kits for this year of hilux. My buddy matt ordered one and put it in his 77
how do i know how to step up the welder for the welding?
What do you do in your spare time man? I don't know where yo find the time. Great videos as always! Keep' em coming.
love watching you work! you do thing just like I would do! Great job as always Austin!!
Dang you sponsored by Milwaukee yet? Lol the truck looks amazing. You should consider bucket seats from the 89-95 toyota pickup or 4runner. They look like they would fit.
i cant wait brou!
