The main thing I appreciate about this car in 2023 is that you can actually go to a dealership and just buy one, no waiting list or anything. There are even multiple colors and trims on the lot to compare and maybe even test drive, and on Nissan dealers' websites they have actual prices, not "Contact Dealer for Price." Fleet vehicles! B2B sales and leases are comfortable in their margins and volume, so they can continue to put the Altima out there and have it be a more compelling rental car from the rental company's perspective.
A Nissan salesperson dream is someone coming in and buying a nicely optioned car and financing it in-house with a decent down payment. There isn't much demand, but then you sometimes find people who want a new car and need it quickly and go with the dealership easiest to sign papers with. Nissan. They'll get you a car.

I traded my 2016 Altima in for a 2016 Audi A6 a year ago but I have no doubt I would have got 200k on the Altima. Maintenance is key on the CVT's, heat is the #1 killer of them. Fluid starts to break down and causes all kinds of issues. Buy an after market oil cooler and change the CVT fluid every 30k and it will last. I drove mine from OH to VA every couple months and it did great. Personally I was changing my CVT fluid once/yr but I am OCD and drive 20k+ a year. not sure about the rest of the country, but around here if you see an Altima near you on the street/highway, you back off and try to go the other way. Something bad's about to happen.
Typically on one donut-spare, and going 15mph faster than flow of traffic (& weaving).

      - same here. Seems to be the 'leased' car owned by the worse drivers, at least those who are appear to mainly be younger.

If they ever do a movie of that 1983 movie Christine, it needs to be an Altima.

At work, we leased 6 2019 Altimas to replace our aging increasingly unreliable Taurus(s,ii?) In the last few years there have been almost no problems, just oil changes and batteries. The seats are decent( these are rental spec models), the phones sync up just fine. Frankly they are quite efficient, reliable people haulers. Not sporty or "engaging" it be sure, but capable.

I've owned 7 Nissans since 1992 and currently own a 2015 Xterra Pro-4X and a 2017 370Z (which I run the HELL out of). I can count all of the issues I've had with them on one hand. My mind is blown when I hear about vehicles always being in the shop like Mark's Volvo he just dumped. Just avoid the CVT's and you will be fine. Or if you have a CVT, make sure the correct fluid is used as some mechanics use the WRONG fluid.

Yes to your point I have never had much trouble with Nissan engines however I've always been very wary of their transmissions. You would think they would have developed more reliable robust transmissions with all the experience they have of how not to do it

Having owned a 370Z with the VVEL system (which by all accounts is reliable), I trust Nissan to execute complex ideas in engine evolution. I'm not going to buy one of these, but if I had to guess I'd say the variable compression system will perform and age well. Perhaps we'll see it used more widely.

It has performed well, 6 years of production with VC turbos on nissan/infiniti models. The negative stigma comes from unreliable owners/ lack of maintenance.

@@stevev1008 for real? I hadn't heard of it before today. But when you think of how complex an engine already is, this isn't all that much more complicated. Just a few extra moving parts.

People laugh at these cars, but from a practical standpoint these cars are a great deal. For the combo of comfort, handling, power, and fuel economy (36- 38 MPG,) cost and warranty, this is an awesome value. A year old CPO cars run in mid-20k range with 7yr/100,000 mi powertrain warranty. The only other game in town is Hyundai/Kia... and anything similar to this has major reliability issues and the interior falls apart ('I've owned one)
