2023 Nissan Rogue SV | So Normal It Hurts

- Опубліковано 26 чер 2024
- We do a quick review of the new 2023 Nissan Rogue and discuss why this car is a good value at $30,000. This crossover makes sense on multiple levels; however, is it enough to lure people with a simple approach?
Others to consider are Honda CRV, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, and Chevy Blazer.

Always a joy watching Mark and Jack driving their most favorite type of car in the world: A small CUV turbo with a CVT transmission. You can just see the glee in their faces.
agreed; i was surprised they didn't take it to autobahn.
@@entertained... they better talk to the Nissan engineers for this one. We need a 1hr special by next week
Honestly these affordable car reviews are much more enjoyable and useful for us. I couldn't care less about them trying out a $200k car. Of course its going to be great. It better be for $200k. The point is its completely unaffordable/useless for 99% of their viewers.
@@janoycresnova9156 just so
Don’t forget variable compression too. It screams “sign me up for an extended warranty”.
When Honda and Toyota say no to your credit score, Nissan and Mitsubishi always have your back!
Honestly the only reason why this boring car exists.

Not true lol first of all I don't know what yall be smoking if you're trying to imply that Hondas or Toyotas are any more premium than a Nissan. All of these Japanese economy brands are dookie in plenty of their own ways. Where they are similar is price. It's up to a bank to decide if they'll let you finance a car or not. In the argument for Nissan when it comes to a lease anyway which you HAVE to do through Nissan financing, I was denied a Maxima Platinum back in 2017 or 18 despite my CS being fine, because I didn't have a long enough credit history for them. Ended up being a blessing in disguise as I got the Kia Stinger GT2 instead several months later. Way better than all these Japanese cars
@UCpiE0ubZ9eed8xm50O09Ifw Toyota is not crap i own many super car and super bike but my buiness empire was build on the back of toyota comercial hilux carrying tons and tons goods day in and day out in harsh weather with very little and cheap service and they all have been rock solid keeping my bottom line healthy and free of unexpected expense i can do without my cars and bike but not without my fleet of toyota trucks.
Thank you for doing reviews on real cars that real people drive. I'm so bored of the channels that focus only on $200k super SUVs.
I agree.
While it’s cool to watch those type of videos. I would prefer to see everyday cars that you’ll actually encounter on the road. Like this Nissan.
I’m just sick of SUV’s period.
Exactly, lots of car youtube channels fall in love with the super cars and get out of touch with what regular viewers wants and needs.
Well said. Agreed.
I rented one of these a couple weeks ago and honestly, this thing is fantastic. It's incredibly comfortable, quiet, roomy, and actually looks pretty nice for a "normal" car.
Yeah people who haven't driven one think it's awful but it's really not, they're quite comfortable
So I had one for a rental, and yeah at the price point it honestly isn’t too bad at all! It made this weird popping sound in the steering rack coming off center frequently but other than that, it was competent, the AWD system worked well, and it had room and space, if you’re just needing an affordable car, why not
@BronzeXV70 100%.
I tried the last 3 gens of Rogue, and the previous two were frankly terrible, but this one was surprisingly good. (Rental car, of course. Nissan truly is the top rental fleet provider now..)

Hahaha. Truth.
Nissan really has nailed the "an car" aspect of the industry. I see TONS of these things around town.
its the price. nissan has the lowest price.
@@Heatranoveryou It's not just price. It's value. Sure, it's cheap, but it's also good...especially for the price.
@@Heatranoveryou Lol nah. Much better product than a RAV4 with nicer design 🤷🏽♂️
I’ll take a RAV4 any day for outdoor activities and road trips. I’ll stick to the Rogue as my daily commute and beater.
@@Heatranoveryou I do not think so; higher trims are pricey.
This is the kind of vehicle you sit behind in traffic and it progressively makes you more and more frustrated until you’re forced to pass it.
The kind of car with a rear windshield sticker of a dog wearing aviators and the caption "dog mom."
Why does this car frustrate you? Are you just annoyed by the brand? Do you make assumptions about the people driving them? I'm sure they don't mean to ruin your day.
@@cyny6305 who’s making assumptions here? Me or you?
If certain vehicles frustrate you so much just by looking at them, you've got some screws loose.
@@janoycresnova9156 I’ll seek counseling. You’re right. Would you recommend I ask for help with this car specifically or include CRV’s, Prius, and all KIA’s?
Thanks for doing this!!!! With the economy slowing and average car payments $600 and $1,000, it’s helpful to have a revisit
This is the equivalent of 'calling your doctor after 4 hours' after the back to back Z06 and GT500 videos.
The ultimate vehicle for people that don't care about vehicles. It does very well at appealing to those folks. I really like how you guys review cars through the lens of the intended buyer, you do that better than anybody on UA-cam.
I love the way you guys can be total car snobs down to the most minute details, but still completely understand how this car is appealing to people. Good job guys.
Going from reviewing the C8 Z06 to the Nissan Rouge is hilarious. You guys are the best hahaha
I might be a cynic but I seriously enjoy their reviews of npc mobiles more than the special cars.
@@augustortiz Vast majority of the viewers feel the same way. Very few here actually want and can afford C8 Z06. It's a useless vehicle for many.
@@augustortiz Nah I'm the same way, because they really have to dive into an npc car from a daily drivability standpoint to be able to talk about differences and make comparisons. That is what most of us humans care about, as specialty cars are more documentary pieces about things no ones gonna ever own. Hearing their real thoughts on "what actually makes this stand out from the 17 other cars in this category" actually is more interesting than anything.
Foolish comment
🤡
Not sure how it is in the rest of the country, but my local Nissan dealer appears to be a high-risk credit business that happens to sell cars too. I went car shopping with my wife and stood in the dealership while some of the most harrowing human drama I've ever seen played out around us. After a solid 10 minutes of nobody acknowledging our existence, we moved on.
They knew you weren’t going to get a 26% interest rate so they weren’t going to make as much money on you as the… others
At this price point, reliability really matters. Buyers of 30k suvs can't afford to have it constantly in the shop. (Money wise..or time wise).
In that case i really think that when analyzing the Rav, crv, rogue, etc, a lot of emphasis should be placed on dealer quality and reliability.
hundred percent agree; as i get older, i appreciate more and more cars that just work
my 2016 nissan rogue is on 180k miles with no service at all so far
Nissan and Reliability. Pick one
@@BusanDalint my 2015 was at 85k miles with no service done to either.
Absolutely. My mom was a die-hard Nissan fan until the CVT on her 2014 Rogue imploded and sent her into a debt spiral. I'll never trust them again. And what else are you buying a 30k suv for if you can't trust it with basic commuting for 5 years?
Great Review. We bought a Rogue SV last week and I love it. It's comfortable, tight, reasonably priced, fuel efficient, loaded with features, and perfect for my family. I'm OK with boring, but we got it in Caspian Blue, which we really like.
Love these daily driver type reviews. Honest. No screaming and hype.
People are looking for reliable vehicles because a car is a huge investment for regular folks.
For $35,000, the features you get and the driving expierence is fantastic. Getting 35+ MPG and all the "higher" end features like the sunroof and heated features along with all the safety features make this a really solid AWD family SUV
Good, practical review. You guys, in addition to being drolly entertaining, are the best on YT at giving people the sort of information they are looking for for the particular unit you're reviewing.
I had a 2021 Versa for a couple weeks while my car was in the shop about a year ago. It was a surprisingly pleasant little car to drive. This seems similar. If I were in the market for something like this it'd definitely be on my list.
I realized i like these NPC car reviews because i like the perspective SG brings to the table. :)
The best thing about the Rouge is that Nissan can build them in decent numbers, while a lot of other car companies are still failing at that. In 2022 it's actually kind of a big deal that you can go to a dealer and see Rogues in different trims and colors and go for a test drive and figure out which one you like. Plus when you search online there are actual prices listed, and not just "Contact Dealer For Price" for the one vehicle within 200 miles that's close to what you wanted and sorry it just sold but we'll take your deposit and let you know when we (probably) get another one like it in a couple months.
Bravo, Nissan.
Great point, I got to test drive this in 2 different dealerships and took it home, no mark ups just added features I didn't mind like window tints and door gaurds.
Great video as always
It's funny , as someone who dailies a sports car , I got one of these as a rental when I went out of state , weirdly enjoyed it, very easy to drive and just relax
That's called "growing up"
I always appreciate that you review vehicles many of us can actually afford. I would have liked a better analysis of how the 1.5 liter compares to last year’s 2.5liter engine.
It feels very similar to the 4 popper. However it's dead off the line and runs out of steam at high RPM which is to be expected. In heat power gets more inconsistent.
@@savagegeese thanks for the reply!
@@savagegeese If your 2022/2023 Rogue is "dead off the line" then you need to have it checked by the dealer. My 2022 Rogue will snap your head back with full throttle from a dead stop and then accelerate briskly to freeway speed. It out runs my Chrysler 300 3.5 V6 stop light to stop light.

Nissan Rogue. The official car of driving at night with just your DLRs on.
I agree with everything you guys spoke on about all these NPC SUVs being so good yet so similar, another large factor on peoples choices especially now is the availability, pricing, and dealer experience. Im a broker in Long Island and the best pricing and inventory we have ATM is mazda dodge and hyundai so thats what we push. This is also why i dont get hung up on msrps these days either bc mark ups incentives etc cheap can be expensive and vice versa IE a durango RT being another 15 per month but 5 10k more msrp. happy shpping everyone!
That was quick, you guys are number 1 in terms of car reviews
OUTSTANDING ANALYSIS AND INFORMATION - WELL DONE!
Nice to see Nissan beginning to try again. Not as bad as I thought, that's for sure.
Hit this spot on, Ty for sharing, appreciate the feedback.
I have a 2019 Rogue, this is my second one. I like them a lot. The first one held it’s value.
I'm gonna tell you now from what I've experienced testing driving it, I agree with all your points, the car drives well, is spacious for the category, has every modern amenity that brands like mazda don't have(touch screen and no track pad) the shifter is also a design that feels new, and the car looks great, for the money, assuming reliability is no issue, this is one of the best cars to get. Can you get something nicer? Of course, can you get something faster? Yes. BUT the stand out star for this car(which I feel you didn't touch on as much as I thought you would've) is the engine. This car proves that you don't need 300hp and 300lbs of torque, 201 and 220 with the way this car is tuned allows it to feel way punchier than it is, and for me even woth the CVt beats out all the mainstream engines that arnt the upgraded engines of these cars. But even the upgraded engines didn't nessarily out box this engine by all that much in its usable power range(obv v6 will pull to redline and then some) now the most exciting thing about this proposition is what this engine could do across nissan and ultimately mitsubishi's line up. This engine choice with the same 201 and 220 power figures would turn every vehicle premium. For the exception of course of anything bigger than the rogue, but everything smaller would literally feel hot Rodded up, without the need for 300hp or for thay matter a 40k dollar price Tag, which is why I say specifically that this engine provides for usable and affordable speed if nissan/mitsubishi decide to go that route.
I have rented one of these last week. I enjoyed my ride. I drove around 800 miles in 24 hours and I have no complaints about this car. If I had money, I would definitely upgrade from my 2012 nissan sentra.
Just bought this car today! I love it!
I had a '21 Rogue rental in Hawaii and it really surprised me. Relatively quiet, comfortable, zippy, roomy, functional, reliable and 39mpg going up and down all those mountains for a week. What's not to like about that?
In the 2022-3 models it get 20hp more.
@@stevev1008 thats not much more an i will take my 2018 rogue over the new ones ..
For some reason when I think Nissan I think honeymoon period.
@@stevev1008 That's because it's a whole different engine for 22 and 23, turbo for one, and variable compression for another.
There’s a sweet spot between the in-depth docu-style videos on sports cars and this sort of consumer advice content. I’m just not sure if the people buying this car will even do research instead of just showing up to dealerships and shopping for the best financing. In any case, I liked this video.
Great video as always 👍 👌
Speed academy hoody? A man of culture.
I'm getting an SV as a fleet vehicle. I'll be spending a lot of time in it so I'm glad to hear it's functional and comfortable
Thank You for the review.
I wanted a rav4 hybrid but was getting pretty tired of the greedy tactics from the dealers,so i bought the rogue sv and I really like it. It's fun to drive and the mileage is great, 35+mpg around town if you don't have a lead foot. The 3 cyl vc turbo mated to a cvt is a leap of faith, but surprisingly, the revs under normal acceleration and driving are as low as a 6 cyl car, wow...
Have you had any problems with your Rouge since? Mainly the transmission?
@@purgatory1813 Still happy with the Rouge. No problems at all.
They make a good point about how the market is saturated with these from every brand and are so alike. In the case of the Rogue, it is a value proposition. Other choices may be nicer, have stronger resale value, etc., but the Nissan does give you a lot for your money. Most buyers will probably trade it in as the warranty runs out dispelling long term reliability concerns.
Just bought a 2023 Rogue SL AWD it was a dealer demo and it only had 1600 miles on it, very nice love it!
I have a 22 SV FWD. Thinking of getting a 23 SL with AWD. I feel torque steer when turning out and needing it to go, also wheel chirp, the engine wants to GO! I'm wondering if the AWD will settle both issues for me. I get 33 mpg overall with 10K miles on it, good to see your mpg figures with the AWD, as I drive easy with my Rogue too.
Just got our 2020 rogue swapped out for a 2023. Man it’s an improvement. Not really, it’s a work vehicle so I just set the cruise and go. However. Nissan NEEDS to fix their fucking infotainment and how it crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME when I make or take a call on teams.
It's a great product in the SV trim, has all the safety features that you'd have to "opt" for in many competitors. Fit and finish is great. And..in Nov of 22, they are even discounting the SV, dealers have a lot of them now. Hard to find the light gray interior tho.
Yeah the SV is a happy medium. The S is bare bones and the SL is so expensive, you may as well get a Pathfinder or an Infiniti QX50.
The most important line in this video "Assuming it's going to be reliable."
I have a 2014 still running strong and comfortable. Change transmission fluid ever 40-60k, it's starting to slip a little but it's fine and I have over 120k
That "six cylinder" noise...WTF? 😅
Nice and informative review, as always...I didn't know these were this good!
Who said it was a 6 cylinder sound??
@@BCJDM Me? 😅
It's a 3 cyl so the math works out
This 3-cylinder sounds good! It sounds related to the VQ35.
Always enjoy your reviews, even if I'm watching it year(s) after its release. Love the sarcasm and way those things can also be praised for their real-world usefulness and practicality.
I've worked at both Toyota and Nissan dealerships and can say while Toyota receives all this praise, they're not immune from their glitches with their AWD CUV/minivans. Sure, we stocked CVTs at NIssan, but we never needed to stock driveshafts and rear differential units for all AWD models -- nor sold out of them all within a single day, or two. BTW: A Subaru tech told me their issues with CVTs in some of their lineup is horrendous too; we just don't hear about those issues as much.
That said, my choice for a CUV would be the Rogue. They're fairly priced, reliable(CVT aside -- but still a trade-off w/Toyota for potential other driveline issues), and they just look better inside and out. The Rogue may blend in more, but at least it doesn't look overwrought as though it was trying too hard to convince you it's an off-road capable vehicle -- it will never be close to a Cherokee Trailhawk, and not even a Bronco Sport Badlands -- which, both, also look better than the Rav4, too.
Its a decent spec car, but these being everywhere means big altima energy for the Future generation
Drive it …you won’t leave it …I was skeptical but yes ….really amazing ..👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Im buying one of these in six days. My 2008 Pontiac finally got it's death blow. After $8k in repairs, no more. Taking a bit of a leap of faith, but the cx50 turbo will cost me $125 more per month and the dealership is 3 hrs away. Itll be my first new car purchase.
Should have talked much more about that VC Turbo engine.
The braking gag was funny!
Thanks as always for a good review. Shopping to replace my 2015 Camry. I like the new Rogue better than the new Rav4 or improved CRV. If Nissan still offered a 2.5L 4cyl engine option this would appeal to me. I live in a small city meaning lots of intersections. The turbo lag you mentioned at the end is a deal breaker. Maybe others agree it be smart if manufacturers would offer a naturally aspirated engine with adequate Hp/Torque. Nissan (Datsun) has a history of creating excellent 4 cyl and 6 cyl engines (think original 240z, and on, the Maxima and orig Altima 4 cyl.). The extra cost to let customers choose a powertrain on a $30k model likely erodes the price advantage. Thanks again for a thorough test drive and comments.
If you really like the Rogue but want the 2.5L engine, you may want to look at the Mitsubishi Outlander. It has that 2.5L Nissan engine and shares its bones with the Rogue. A lot of reviewers even say they like the Outlander better (more stylish, spacious and luxurious) than the Rogue.
Maybe consider A Mazda SUV?
By all means, don't spend any time researching "Jatco transmissions" or "turbo reliability." Or even a few more minutes learning about "direct fuel injection." If you just really couldn't care less about "reliability nightmares," by all means go into debt for something that might not be driveable before you finish paying for it.
I love my 2023, it's fun to drive and you can't beat the comfort and roominess.
I’ve driven 2 of these SV’s fwd via rentals. I thoroughly enjoyed them. It made the trip from San Antonio to Corpus Christi an enjoyable ride. Very comfy, plenty of power, good on gas and good visibility. I like you don’t have to run premium fuel to get full power. I could see me owning one but the cvt is what keeps me from it. Maybe if they covered the cvt for 100k miles I would consider it.
I'm in a rouge sv rental for the past week, so far I like it
I appreciate your take on this car. There are a lot of people that buy these.
I'll probably go from my current sedan to a SUV crossover thing because growing kids and a dog need space. That's just how life evolved in my case. At this price point I favor dealer network, reliability and the little extras you could get like rear sensors-camera, adaptive cruise and the like.
I got a Rogue and I'm really happy with it
Nissan cabins are sooo ergonomic. From the the way the maintain space in the door bins, to how the window switches fall to hand, the placement of the start button, the feel of the wheel. I think its a great space. The Rogue now looks distinct and interesting imo (BMW stole their look) and now the line up offers lots you can option.
The big news tho for this year rogue was the KR15DDT! A Variable Compression, turbocharged *3 cylinder* engine. Its making modest power at just over 200, and at best makes a Rogue move like a 4th Gen Altima. (If that was fake engine noise, they made it sound alot like a vr interestingly enough…) VC-Turbo’s are likely the last mass market new style of gas powered engine the roads will see, I think a deep dive into one would be very interesting
Sucks fhat they all have tons of problems in the VC-Turbo engines, not to mention the 9AT & CVT

I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue - I drive full time for Rideshare. This car is a monster. I am in Colorado and have put tons of milage on it and this vehicle keeps on going. I have taken this car on medium off-road trails to go camping or fishing - driven in all kinds of weather we get here in this region. Tried to get stuck in six inches of snow and the car wouldn't let me. My only complaint is the road noise. Being what I do, having a quiet cabin in huge for me. However, if that is my only complaint - I say I am doing pretty well.
I had to rent the last generation Rouge for a couple of days and i was pleasantly surprised as to how spacious, open and comfortable it was. It also seemed to have decent pick up despite the CVT, perhaps it was still newish and didn't have a ton of miles on it and hence less wear and tear. I wouldn't touch a Nissan/Jatco CVT anymore even though I used to own a 2009 Sentra SE-R that never failed on me.
I’ve rented one of these and a Maxima. I’m actually impressed by these from Nissan. Are they the best things ever? God no. But they’re always comfortable, nice to drive, and have good infotainment. The VQ Maxima’s are especially fun.
The SE-R Spec V option of the same era was pretty temping with the manual transmission, but is quite similar to the modern Civic Si.

Wow, first time seeing someone with a Sony Xperia in the wild. Do you use it for photos or videos while doing review's or just like the phone? I have the 5 Mk3 and always found the camera a little middeling despite Sony making the lenses.
I have had mine for a year and I absolutely LOVE it! Mine is the AWD. I get 37 MPG on the 2 lane black tops that I normally drive @ 60 MPH. The last highway trip I went on I averaged 33.7 MPG @ 75 and 80 MPH. That is pretty impressive. I'm an old fella,, so,, I drive really mellow. That said. I'm not ashamed to admit I really like how simple and straightforward the interior layout is - I actually don't mind the exterior styling either. If it weren't for the CVT I would actually consider one.
As the owner of a 2022 Altima, I can forgive the emptiness I feel in driving experience. The car feels so much better than comparable Toyota products, bested only perhaps by the Accord.
We own 2 Santa FEs 2019 & 2020 with 8 spd trans and 2.4 engines .
Must say we luv-em !!! No problems.
You guys hit the nail in the damn head with the test drive observation, how on earth do you realistically test drive options in the SUV/CUV market.....
If it wasn't for reviews , specially the ones you guys make, it would be either blindfold pick or select the one you prefer style wise and pray to your deity of choice it wont crap the bed.
Had one as a rental, grew to like it ok except for the visibility over the left and ride side hood hump.
Had one of these as a rental and have to say I really enjoyed it. Thought the adaptive cruise is better than Palisade
I really like ACC except at times, if the car I've been following changes lanes and slows, mine will slow a lot more than I want...then pick up speed again. Little annoying.
Here in Europe, we have it but with e-Power configuration only and the car becomes completely different in a good way. It drives very sportily with great fuel consumption as well as in a city it`s super quiet but the price will be around 40k for the e-Power.
Thanks Mark and Jack, for reviewing cars that most brand snobs usually dismiss in the first 10 seconds.
Why the Rogue? ...once things settle down, you can lease it for peanuts. I IIRC, 2016/7 it was $149/month
Anyways, Was Hoping Nissan explain why they kept the Rogue a 5 seater but allowed the Mitsubishi Outlander twin to be a 7 seater... even if it is the worlds most useless 3rd row.
Same issue with Hyundai Santa Fe that offers a 3rd row in other markets.
we get those small suvs with the third row here in aus and they are generally useless except for really small kids. they are more for the occasional primary schooler getting a lift home use
How is this new 3 cylinder feeling compared to the 2021 Rogue with the 2.5 4 cylinder?
Way more power, makes the car much less bland and boring in my opinion.
It feels like the engine is probably gonna blow itself up as soon as the warranty is up.
@@Traysandor Why? Three cylinders engines are very reliable in cars like Dacia or Ford.
Having driven both for ~1000 miles each now through my work, I'd say the 1.5T definitely added a decent amount of pep in the car's step. It's not groundbreaking, but if you learn the throttle sweet spots you can get surprisingly good performance for what it is.
@@JJFLD wow, I should upgrade from my 21 to 23 even though they are the same body style
i love my rogue, hit 40mpg in town ! Noone mention that with a Turbo engine we still can use regular gas due it's Variable compression which saves money on the pump! I think what i'll do is trade for the bigger brother (Pathfinder)in a year or two to ease the CVT worries!
Really up-leveling the rental vehicle game. My sister owns one
it is a nice car
I think the cvt problem comes from running the engine at high rpms which causes the transmission to run at higher rpms. This causes the cvt fluid to prematurely break down because the of the heat caused by higher rpms. We have a 2011 rogue with more than 90k miles on it. I try to accelerate at peak torque instead of peak horsepower. You can accelerate quickly and the transmission stays cool. I hope I haven't jinxed myself. I've replaced everything but the engine and transmission in the rogue myself.
This is your wife's vehicle, and you're happy it is. She's satisfied, it's safe and competent, and didn't cost you an arm and a leg. If your lucky, she'll become attached to it and not want to trade it in for 10 years. This is my experience with my wife's RAV4 and CRV and this is a "good thing".
Its a Nissan so the seat is also really comfortable, I will put it on the top of my preferred rental list.
Sad, but true. When I'm facing the dregs, the remains of the day at the rental lot, I'd take the Rogue over the Kias on the lot, especially as the KIas seem to always be cloth seats which, WTF? This all said, Other Nissans at rental lots are pure hell. Versas are deathtraps, I actually got a Maxima once with shite cloth and torque steer for days. Rogue is the only one that meh enough to be meh I don't care.
@@colin-nekritz ?, I always go for cloth seats, non luxury brand leather seats are usually trash. I wouldn't even waste time trying out kia leather seats.

My wife and I owned 3. 2014, 2018 , and a 2019 , all were leased. We never had one problem ..
Ha Ha. You never owned any if you leased. Also, if you only have drive them for 2-4 years, you shouldn't have any issues no matter the make unless you have a lemon or you don't do your lube maintenance's.
As a past owner of three Rogues, I really enjoyed the comfort of these vehicles, however, the last version a 2019 SV had braking problems (AEB) which kept slamming on the brakes for no reason. The local Nissan dealership could not find a problem after 4 issues of this, and the car being less than a year old, Nissan head office would not do anything about it, I got rid of it and bought something else. I liked the cars, but not Nissans lack of concern for its customers. Hopefully they treat their customers better these days.
If you are watching this in March 2024, the dealers are still overloaded with new 2023 inventory of Rogues. Many of them are discounted 5-7K off MSRP. A new small CUV with lots of features, AWD, and good fuel economy in the mid $20K range, worth checking them out.
I completely understand the appeal even though I consider myself a car enthusiast and think driving enjoyment is such a valuable thing. but I like no nonsense, unpretentious, practical cars. I rented the previous version, an Xtrail here in aus and you know what? the 2.5l na 4 pot was punchier than I expected and the cvt was fine, it didn't use much fuel, it was easy to park (despite my own cars being superminis). the interior wasn't at all fancy but the seat was comfy and the controls were laid out well. the only issue was a very slightly jiggly ride. I could say almost the same about the Mitsubishi asx which gets canned for being a million years old and unexciting to drive but as a cheap no thrills practical cvt box it did exactly what I needed and drove fine. so I hope it does well and Nissan makes a motza from it globally, I hope people don't stretch leases forever chasing the perception of chintz and prestige and we get back to sensible if a bit boring cars like these because for people who don't care they are perfect, and for us that do and those that learn to love driving, hopefully the success means a bit of steering feel and fun in the facelift version or even some fun cars in the range alongside.
QR25DE engines has been in Nissan since 2001. It is very simple and predictable engines with flat tappet, no hydraulic lifter, CVVT, etc. Almost as good as the old 2ZR-FE in Corolla 1.8L. But at this time of the world with Cold War becomes Warm, Hybrid is a must for any car today. Nothing beats HSD system.
9:40 I couldn't concentrate on the Final Thoughts anymore when I saw Mark wearing a "Steed Academy" sweatshirt...
Mark, can you do a review on the gas model 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander?
Aluminum control arms on a 30K SUV built for the masses? Hats off to Nissan for making that happen!
The reality is cars like this do well because many people look at cars like an appliance. For them a Rogue vs RAV vs CRV-V vs some other CUV is tomato - tomato. All they are concerned with is price, features, usability, and is it reliable enough for the time period they plan on keeping it. Most people couldn't or can't be bothered to be concerned about NA vs Turbo, 6/8/10 spd trans for a CVT/eCVT or whatever. I've met people who buy cars and dont even test drive. Or they buy the first car they like or are recommend from a family member. Minimal research is done. No one cares what a washing machine looks like so long as it functions and works. Until they have extra income to be picky or start getting fancy, everyone knows with appliances old is gold.
But that's how it is. It's like computers, either you buy whatever garbage at walmart/target, maybe you consult the BestBuy kid working the laptop counter if you want something "good". But all the Ghz, CPU cores, Cache, Ram speed/latency, GPU, SSD specs are lost on you. So that's why people buy Rouges because it doesn't matter to them. People glorify a Mac, when it's just another laptop but compare it to a 600 dollar dell about how much better it is when compared to comparable windows laptops, you can find something similar potentially (minus the new M1 and M2 chips).
Remove the badges and it could literally be any CUV blob. It does look far better than the RAV4 however.
And has decentish interior room. I owned a 2007 RAV4, which, at the time, they had more room than the Jeep Grand Cherokee actually and you could (and I did) opt for the Lexus V6 they used in it produced 270 HP and 250 lbs of torque making it kind-of hysterical to drive, it was the second-fastest CUV at the time behind the Porsche Taycan though, granted, the RAV cornered like a lumbering drunk hippo. The new RAV4s are super slow and super tiny, one of the VERY rare occurrences where a model goes DOWN in size from the previous model design and because woefully slower and less fun. Note: NOT that the new Rogue is somehow more fun than the RAV4, neither are fun, my point is more that as both are just nondescript bland CUVs, provided you're not keeping it long term, the Rogue is cheaper, kinda almost looks better (that's a push) and had more room, better visibility, and weirdly even slightly better materials.
At least the current RAV4 still feels like you have a steering rack & is reliable past 10K miles
30k is a hard bet for middle class owners and when u got a jatco cvt along with turbo as well…..you better not let the reliability factor go . There is a reason RAV4 and CRV have higher sale and resale value.
