Jetstar Co-workers used to call in sick when Greg Lynn was rostered on to fly because he was so unlikeable.
The victorian high country is literally scattered with millions of practical & suitable places to camp at & yet Greg Lynn purposely set up camp right next to Russell Hill & Carol Clay just to be an antagonistic smart azz & then shot them both & feigned the "It wasn't my fault it was all an accident" excuse when he was investigated.
The jury not convicted him on both counts of murder was flabbergasting to all considering his behaviour after the crimes. We've all made mistakes, but we don't burn the bodies instead of telling the Police what happened if we're innocent

When people want to go on a dirty weekend with their mistress & someone is in their love making place, the sensible thing to do is to move on to somewhere more secluded I would have thought. It's not like there's a shortage of them. Who would want to be romantic with their girlfriend with someone else in such close proximity? (Especially because it's a hunting area & meatheads with firearms are essentially a certainty) It sounds like there was a battle of the ego's went on then after reading your comment & Russell tried to move Greg on & Greg used his 12 gauge as his negotiating tool rather than pack up & move camp..

The jury was specifically instructed that they could not make a manslaughter finding - they could only find him guilty or not guilty of first degree murder of Russel and Carol. Lynn took a high-risk strategy of confessing to the disposal of the bodies and suggested that all of his suspicious behaviour could be accounted for by him trying to cover up this crime. It was conceivable that he killed Russell by accident or during a fight but it was not conceivable that he killed Carol by accident.

I'd say you are pretty much right except for the method of death. I think he stabbed Russell and then used the 4 shots as he hunted for Carol around the vehicle and hit the mirror in the process. He made the rest of his story fit the evidence so he more than likely stabbed him and said so just in case the police found evidence of that. I'm from Australia and there were other factors involved such as improper police procedures which led to some evidence being excluded from trial. He also had a really good lawyer which along with a ridiculous but technically plausible story led to the one not guilty verdict

    • @jeraldbottcher1588
      @jeraldbottcher1588 2 дні тому +5

I do not think Dr Grande actually speculated on how the deaths happened. He recounted how the guy said they happened. I do think you are correct though. Greg probably stabbed Russel during the altercation. Then to cover his misdeed he was shooting at Carol. This would explain the 4 shots, 3 of them probably missed, one hitting the mirror on the vehicle. The last shot was the one that killed her.
I think the big think that convicted him is his actions after the murder. Burning the campsite, disposing of the bodies, painting his vehicle, etc.

It is very interesting that in some circles in Australia people are so strangely narrow minded and have such a twisted morality that they somehow believe Mr Hill and Ms Clay deserved to be murdered because they were having an affair . These could just as well have been young people , a married couple … anyone . The unfortunate circumstance is that they happened to camp next to a psychopath with a gun . His extraordinary arrogance led him to lie to the police in a quasi “ confession “ believing that his story , however preposterous , was the one the jury would side with . This couple did not deserve to be murdered any more than any other Australian citizen . A tragedy for themselves and their families . Most Australians are indeed wondering why there was only one murder conviction and not two … but grateful that at least there was one conviction of murder found and the monster was locked up .

Like, why wasn't he charged with destruction of evidence, tampering with a corpse, all those other things. I think sometimes it's too black and white. Once case I had was an assault. We all knew he was guilty, but because of the one single charge which the prosecutor didn't adequately prove, we had to let him go. So many other things we could have convicted him on. Frustrating.

Sometimes the facts speak for themselves, in which case it's the defence that has to present a plausible alternative to the most obvious conclusion. The only way the jury could've gone with Not Guilty is if they thought his "self defence/fell on the knife" story was plausible, despite everything else that was proven about the events. It also means they bought his "nobody would believe me" excuse for destroying the scene, including both the woman (assuming hers was the second death) and any exculpatory evidence supporting his story (which he wouldn't have done if he thought there was any), then hiding both the bodies, then returning to them later to incinerate them.
They believed he murdered the woman, and there wasn't anyone else around who could've killed the other victim, which only leaves accidental death and self-defence as alternatives to murder. The only open question is the timeline.
Either the man died first, accidentally or by being killed in self-defence (if you are to believe both Lynn and the jury), in which case the woman was "just another piece of evidence" to be destroyed, apparently out of fear for his credibility; or, he murdered the woman first, which would exclude the claim of self-defence, leaving only "an accident that immediately followed, but was unrelated to, the murder" as an alternative possibility for the man's death. Either way, he went to great lengths to conceal the deaths themselves, their causes, and all the events surrounding them, while claiming both were accidents.
The jury believed that he lied about the woman's death being accidental, because he murdered her, yet still considered him credible enough to buy the rest of his story?
They must've all been wearing yoga pants, because that's one hell of a stretch.

This occurred in the Victorian highlands, more like the snowy mountains than the outback area of Australia. There have been other missing people who have not been located, I believe 4 of them, different ages, a few of them are experienced in navigating the area, many of them were solo at the time of their disappearance and all of them have yet to be located. These disappearances have occurred since 2016.
Greg Lynn is currently under investigation for the death of his first wife, his past behaviour has inklings of psychopathic tendencies such as the killing of animals when he was upset. I speculate that he could be a potential serial killer with what little information I have read about Lynn and the sad disappearances of these people who have yet to be found. I don't believe in coincidences and I find it interesting that the frequency of disappearances since 2016 has been reduced since he was locked up.
The only reason he got caught for these deaths is because the lady who was murdered had high social standing in her community as she was the president of the Country women's association.
I am writing this comment based on memory of what I have read over the years, so I may not be accurate with the terminology. Please look up about the multiple disappearances in this area as it is very unsettling and I'm sorry to the family and friends etc who still don't know what happened to their loved ones.

I have an issue with how in his fictitious story he could be attacked by a knife and not have any defensive wounds. Additionally what you might not know is the prosecution botched the case. The prosecutor made 16 errors which caused multiple facts to be excluded from the jury. Additionally a great deal of his confession and tapes were ruled inadmissible because the police were too cruel towards him. The last thing that you missed is that it came out on secret recordings that he owned a trigger lock for his firearms so it was impossible for anyone else to fire them.

Russel may have been a cheater but he did not deserve to be murdered by a stranger.
The jury was out for a week and at one point checked with the judge that they could find Lynn guilty of one count and not guilty of the other count of murder. They were only allowed to consider evidence put before them in the court; there were probably many details that for one reason or another did not make it into the court room.
Lynn was so efficient in his disposal of the bodies that only a fragment of one of Carol's bones was found. Finding someone guilty of murder beyond reasonable doubt is so hard in a case like this. All power to the police and forensic teams who did an incredible job to get a conviction for Carol's murder.
And all respect for Russel's widow who has been nothing but dignified during this whole process having to face not only her husband's meaningless death but also discovering his cheating and knowing it was being discussed worldwide. Even once the case was over, she said she bore Carol no ill will and was relieved that Lynn had at least been convicted of her death.

I think this was a case of two very objectionable men and their ego's colliding in a very remote place with disastrous outcomes. I know you don't want to victim blame but old Russell had a bit of a history too. Numerous people reported feeling their privacy invaded by him with his drone, one couple said he flew down near their tent and they bemusedly waved at the camera. He had spent much of his career in the area, made some of the trails and tracks, and it seems felt some kind of entitlement over the place - people report him driving like a cranky old bugger, frown on his face, leaving dust trails near tents, driving fast, driving slow and blocking lanes, not returning waves. He came up and camped almost on top of Lynn because that was "his spot", despite all the space and wilderness around. He followed Lynn with his drone when Lynn went out hunting, told him he would report his violations to police when they left. Greg Lynn in turn provoked Russell with loud music and from there a confrontation has escalated. Greg Lynn sounds like he was an angry man, could commit acts of violence, and no doubt escalated out of proportion, but it must be said he didn't go up there to kill anyone, he was keeping to himself in an isolated spot, and this old guy has turned up, camped next to him, got in his face, and a conflict bubbled for a couple of days. They were the kinds of men who should not have encountered each other in such a situation. This may be why he wasn't found guilty of Russels murder, the jury thought it should have been manslaughter. However he then killed Carol Clay to remove a witness, outright murder. Police swooped on Greg Lynn while he was camping in a remote place because with their audio bugs they thought he was about to end himself. He was crying, having a breakdown, talking about self harm. They wanted to surveil him longer but this forced their hand to arrest him immediately. They didn't want to lose the subject of their investigation.
