this song...that album..now going on 35 years of RELEVENT music! can we put to rest any debate about the best AND greatest band in history?(my apologies to the Beatles..whom I adore)!!!!
BEst nite OF MY ENTIRE life !! BESt concert I have EVER been too !! FOr those who missed this >> IT doesnt give it justice IT was so LOUD 1 Million WATTS OF PURE PLEASURE!
when i was young i heard this guitar solo on the t.v. ran over there to see what it was but i missed it. =( never found out what it was i heard.......until now. :)
U2 at it's best...check out the guitar-solo...listen to the bass and drums running rings around each other at the same time...in the 70's we would call that a 'tight' band....and then, after that song is over they go right into Running To Stand Still...it is master strokes of art, interwoven and laced.
Just total ZooTV :). Perfect performance and fantastically filmed. (Though, i can imagine a non-U2 fan not knowing the backround of the song, taking this performance as a band "trying to be hard", with all those burning crosses etc. But does that matter anyway..;) ). This video is one of most essencial from ZooTV for me.
I play Stranglehold and Bullet on guitar, and the chord progression/riff is different, the beat is similar. The chords of Stranglehold are the same as Purple Haze and a few million other rock songs. This song stays on one chord and changes only during the solo, how The Edge uses slide and delay in this is very unique
@supercooldude2121 yeh i know ! :P THis were the days man When music was real and Had to be there to experience it , so loud too and thats no joke it was 1 million watts ,,, Such a good concert and a great band live!
@PatrickMc1nerney I love U2, and I'm afraid you're right. I've heard "Stranglehold," and, while the vocal track is completely different, the music is very similar. I'm amazed U2 has never had to pay royalties to the Nuge, or give him co-writing credit.
I love that Edge can play like that but chooses not to most of the time. He's one of the few great guitarists who uses his guitar as a means to express the song instead of the song as a means to express his guitar.
@PatrickMc1nerney You have to have a lot of imagination to call it a ripp off. Yes it both sounds like a guitar solo and yes it go's up and down the pentatonic scale, but so does almost every guitar solo. Look up the original recording of Bullet the Blue Sky, no where near Stranglehold.
@PeteMachalek It's pretty much impossible to make songs without sounding like a bunch of other songs already out, so it's not strange that they have a few similarities. No way they should have to pay royalties or give part of the credit unless it's clear that they've stealen something from Ted's song (lyrics, solo, structure). You can't possibly mean that they've done that, that's just lame.
@ArrJayEss It's my own opinion and other people have agreed with me. I agree that the lyrics are totally different, but the main riff sounds very similar to me. If you think otherwise that's fine. Thanks for your view point
ummmm they were ahead of the times with this tour... Over-produced and corny? HELL NO!. If anything is overproduced and corny its the junk that comes out today from the "socalled" new MTV generation.......Also, during this time a lot of live videos had the slow motion effect... Still think it ruins the feeling of a "live" video
The Edge is one of the greatest guitars of all time from one of the greatest bands of all time - plain and simple.

This song legit scares the s--t out of me!! And the live performances have me waking up in the middle of the night screaming!
"If you try to sound like Edge, you best go back to the drawing board son, because you ain't gonna have much luck." ~ Bruce
BEst nite OF MY ENTIRE life !! BESt concert I have EVER been too !! FOr those who missed this >> IT doesnt give it justice IT was so LOUD 1 Million WATTS OF PURE PLEASURE!

Slappin' em downnnnn one hundred! Twooo hundred! N I can see those fighter planes....
To były czasy kiedy o Edge,u mogłem bez kozery powiedzieć że jest następcą Hendriksa. Teraz zastąpi go na koncertach każda harcerka.
Fantastico questo pezzo. !!!
Yeah the Zoo TV Dublin show was probably the best of the tour.
2.10-3.15 the BEST solo ever
That's it, you've unleashed The Edge.
SO GOOD !!!!

Los guitarreos de The Edge son lo mejor!

@getsbent Your SOOOO lucky you were there!!!
edge hendrix in his veins!!
I love that Edge can play like that but chooses not to most of the time. He's one of the few great guitarists who uses his guitar as a means to express the song instead of the song as a means to express his guitar.
@nfaswimboy it sounds like a movie trailer for the edge.
putain de concert! putain de souvenir!!!

the best part was from 0:00 to 5:23
@SilverDragon1994 and Achtung Baby
"Four guys chopping down a Joshua Tree"
Yep, he's quite the opportunist.
When I saw them in '06, he started the show alone in a spotlight......waving an American flag.
@ArtMonkforHallofFame hendrix ;-)
Nothing like biting the hand that feeds you. Interesting perspective - excellent performance though.
@davidmcgold lol!
Is this U2 or Zeppelin?
He Faier!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRR I hate the slow motion video at 5:06. ITS A LIVE SHOW NO SLOW MOTION ALLOWED!
ummmm they were ahead of the times with this tour... Over-produced and corny? HELL NO!. This song's music sounds like a total rip-off of Ted Nugent's "Strangehold"
