I originally wanted to include "Sacred Line", an horror gem! But I couldn't emulate that game. Instead, I selected a very nice Sega CD game! It is a small exception in the list, but I hope you like it.
as great a video as this was- a perfect set for All Hollows' Eve these are, so kudos for the on-point selection- there's one game that I believe should've at least have an honorable mention: Devil's Crush MD, known here in the States as Dragon's Fury, co-developed by Compile & TechnoSoft and, by some bizarre reason, published Stateside by Tengen! harrowing medieval daemonic horrors galore, as well as a solid, satisfying experience for us pinball aficionados!
Honorable mentions for Contra Hard Corps which actually has much creepier bosses and enemies than Castlevania. Also, Kid Chameleon which also has some creepy bosses, enemies, and settings.
Immortal - This game has a whole combat system where you can block, wait for an opening and then counter-attack. The only problem is that it NEVER works. It's impossible to block and then counter-attack without getting hit yourself. So fights that are supposed to be strategic battles just devolve into slugfests where you hope the opponent's health runs out before yours. And then after 3-4 fights, you die because there's no way to avoid taking damage during these fights. Not to mention the almost-instant death when you fall in a pit, because you can never swing yourself out of it. I wanted to like this one, but the gameplay sucks. Chakan - I hate games like this where stopping to kill the enemies is completely pointless because they just keep respawning. Alien 3 - A game where it's absolutely impossible to avoid taking damage when aliens appear out of nowhere and hit you. Night Trap - It's an interesting idea, but the whole appeal of the game is in being able to spy on what's going on in the house. Unfortunately, you can't actually watch what the characters are doing because you have to spend all your time frantically switching cameras to try and catch the enemies. If you stop to watch the characters, you end up losing the game.
With Alien 3 in mind, I'm surprised Predator 2 wasn't on this list. The game over screen and the hostages dying gave me nightmares that I still remember today, lmfao Either way, love your vids -- you've appeared in my feed for the last few days, time to sub for more :D
Quick comment. Splatterhouse is not the direct result of 90’s slasher flicks. The slasher flick was pretty much dead in the 90s until Scream revived it in 96, well after Splatterhouse. Splatterhouse 3 came out in 93. Splatterhouse is the influence of the late 70s, mostly 80s slasher flicks.
I remember splatterhouse 3 and its cutscenes. They literally gave me nightmares back then lol. The most terrifying cutscene is the wife's close up photo with her eyes rolled back.
Ok, but Splatterhouse 2 has a creepier atmosphere thank most of this list. Also, WHY NOBODY TALKS ABOUT NIGHTMARE CIRCUS!?? If you think about it, both Time Killers and Eternal Champions are creepy... I mean, all of the roster are people who have already died and are trying to prevent their deaths and have a chance at life again
probably because nobody played Nightmare Circus, This a Brazilian game that didn't got shared overseas to US and Europe, not much people know about it.
Splatterhouse 3 did have some creepy and disturbing moments. Like in Stage 2 if you fail to rescue Jennifer, your punishment is to see her transform into a mindless monster. That image still haunts my mind once in a while in my dreams.
Woooww never played the oozie, the soundrack sounds amazing! I played a lot of this when I was a kid, they weren't scary to me since I always felt comfortable with horror games. My favorites were Castlevania ( my favorite game franchise 🙈❤️) Chakan, Zombies ate my Neighbours and Splatterhouse, also alien which is also one of my favorite movies but I find alien games ridiculously hard and i'm not very good playing just do it for fun (sorry if my grammar sucks🙈) Great video!!
Shadow of the Beast 1 and 2 had some of the best dark, "scary" atmosphere on Genesis. Should have made the list considering some of the others on here.
Nice list, hey what song do you use in your outro? Sounds awesome! And for some reason none of these games scared me, but Friday The 13th for NES did something about the music that was eerie and Jason randomly popping up and being impossible to kill lol. But some of these I remember well like Nighttrap.
1:51 nearly forgot about this game I played this as a kid so I didn't remember the name or much of it but the character attack and looks reminded of it . Thanks for reminding me
Sega megadrive is my favourite console of all time. Great selection of games here. The ooze is a great game. Really enjoyed watching. Huge like and subscribed 👍⭐
Kinda surprised Devil's Crush/Dragon's Fury isn't on the list. That's maybe the only MD/Genesis game I ever thought was actually too scary to show kids.
Definitely some favorites here. Castlevania Bloodlines is my favorite in the series, and Haunting Starring Polterguy is an unsung gem. Would love to see a Sims/Haunting crossover! Glad to see something from the Sega CD as well (Night Trap). A little surprised Wings of Wor (a.k.a. Gynoug) didn't make the list, but the Genesis had no shortage of unusual and creepy gems.
i saw this chakan for the first time in my life but immediately realised it was made by the same developer as x-men 2, because of similar music and sound effects
Good selection. but without Zero Tolerance it's not really full :) Horrifying and dismal athmosphere of the game, when you're walkin empty endless rooms gave me chills back then Also Doom Troopers would fit here much better than Ghould'n'Ghosts, for example
Decap Attack scary? What mushrooms are you on? That’s one of my favorite Genesis/Megadrive titles; I have nothing but sweet memories of playing that game, but it is not scary at all.
HA the jokes on u I played splatterhouse 3 as a kid back then but didn't traumatize me and even played resident evil 1,2,3 original when I was around 12 years old even re 2 was my first horror game ever
@@BitsBeats that's an interesting point. For me, the scariest levels were the prehistoric ones, then the open ocean, but I never found the final couple of levels all that scary. I know the soundtrack and sounds are creepy, but I think maybe the thing behind it all was that initial jump scare at the very beginning. I think whoever had the volume up highest were burned from that moment on.
I originally wanted to include "Sacred Line", an horror gem! But I couldn't emulate that game.

Man I Love Genesis...Genesis Was My Childhood
Genesis is Better Than SNES in My Opinion!!
@@yousefslimani99 Same here Slimani! Awesome console!😎👍
The last 3 levels from Ecco the Dolphin are straight out of a nightmare.
The enemies in the footage from undead lines look an awful lot like Rick's design from the first splatterhouse.
Honorable mentions for Contra Hard Corps which actually has much creepier bosses and enemies than Castlevania. Also, Kid Chameleon which also has some creepy bosses, enemies, and settings.
aka the best Contra ever!
The original Jurassic Park and Ecco the Dolphin gave me nightmares.

Chakan gave me nightmares as a kid. A really scary game
Well, "scary" is a stretch for most of those games, but they're mostly all pretty cool "scary" games.
You know what is scary though? The snes low resolution now that something to fear right there.
splatterhouse 2 is one of the most effed up games i ever played. Yes i played manhunt. So its not a stretch to me for that one at least.
What?! You mean to tell me that you don't find Decapattack scary? I am outraged.
@@segasystem1671 It's time to accept defeat.
@@davidv4018 I'm sorry what?
It may be stupid but "The Revenge of Shinobi" creeped the hell out of me because the main villain digital laugh on the game over screen.
Absolutely fantastic list! Some of these games are why Genesis is still my favorite system to this day!
With Alien 3 in mind, I'm surprised Predator 2 wasn't on this list. The game over screen and the hostages dying gave me nightmares that I still remember today, lmfao

Super Castlevania IV and Rondo of Blood are IMO scarier than Bloodlines.
Awesome Chakan is absolutely awesome!!!😎🤘🤘
True fact ;)

That Alien game kicks ASS!
A game I always thought had some scariness to it is Comix Zone
NICE VIDEO BRO! good memories omg
Chakan the forever man❤
Immortal - my favorite game in terms of hopelessness and despair. 10 out of 10. And the music there is amazing.
Nice selection!
I remember splatterhouse 3 and its cutscenes. They literally gave me nightmares back then lol. The most terrifying cutscene is the wife's close up photo with her eyes rolled back.
It had to be the "wife as a mindless beast" picture that scared me the most.

Eternal Champions IS scary! Especially when you're a kid playing it alone in a neighbor's basement, lol
@@icelandicbanks6473 why the flipping fckk where you ALONE on a neighbour's basement? I'd be scared to play even Hello Kitty like that

Chakan needs a reboot!
Nice video bro, great.. 😁👍
My favorite games are Castlevania: Bloodlines and Ghouls 'N Ghost, hehe.. 😁👌
splatterhouse 3 and especially the intro used to terrify my when i was a kid. Felt like i was doing something secret and wrong when i rented it.
Cool video

I always wanted a Chakan The Forever Man 2
i like that your Genesis list has a Sega CD game on it - I remember playing nighttrap as a kid. classic!
There's also Slime World!
Idk why, but Chakan always reminded me of David Carradine from kung fu the legend continues. 🤣 🤣
Alien 3 was one of my favorites on the Genesis. The soundtrack was great
Shadow of the Beast 1 and 2 had some of the best dark, "scary" atmosphere on Genesis. Should have made the list considering some of the others on here.
Nice to see someone who thought as me, playing Shadow of the Beast 2 as a kid was a lot scary
Shadow of the beast 1 and 2 should of been on that list. It creeped me out playing that game as a kid

Sega megadrive is my favourite console of all time. Great selection of games here. The ooze is a great game. Really enjoyed watching. Huge like and subscribed 👍⭐
Where's Echo the Dolphin 1&2 and Zero Tolerance? Those games are ACTUAL creepy scary games on Sega
Kinda surprised Devil's Crush/Dragon's Fury isn't on the list. That's maybe the only MD/Genesis game I ever thought was actually too scary to show kids.
Ghostbusters creeped me out totally as a kid. I remember going over my friends house to play it. Freaked me out....but I kept trying.
Really really SCARY! Woah! 👻😱👌
It is too funny how I actually had most of those games, lol. As usual, great work friend!

Chaken looks super similar to Cade Bane(spelling) in the Star Wars universe. Cool design 😁
Ok...that Chakan thumbnail caught my attention.. bro I want to play that again or a new or remastered Chakan.. that was an awesome game
The levels in Splatterhouse I never found scary, but those cutscenes haunted my dreams.
new end credits music, woot
what was the name of the SOTN ending theme remix you use?
Castlevania IV - Simon's Theme | Epic Rock Cover
I remember having "the ooze" game available to me but not even touching it because I was afraid of the title screen with the titular Ooze.
Nothing is scarier than spiderman vs the kingpin, its like unintentionally scary the ost is super creepy.
I played most of these games in my childhood.
Another one for SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive is Dragon's Fury (Devil Crash MD in Japan) by developer Technosoft a Pinball Horror/Terror themed.
Before Carrion, there was THE OOZE.
The scariest part of Chakan is the music. Absolutely horrific.
Chakan was the game I was looking for, fond memories, I was terrible at it.
Did you just scare the bottoms off that woman XD
Warlock would have been a great entry for this list. Just look it up and you'll see what I mean.
Decapattack actually looks very funny XD
Why no Splatterhouse 2? It certainly is scarier than Night Trap. Then again, Kirby is scarier than Night Trap.
So sad you didn't include gynoug/wings of wor, that's one hell of deity abomination there.
Ah yes Splatterhouse, the game from 1988, is a direct result of 90s horror...
Jurassic Park had some scary moments.
Warlock, MK3 used to scare me too.
Out of this world scared me as a kid
I think another honorable mention would be Crue Ball.
i saw this chakan for the first time in my life
but immediately realised it was made by the same developer as x-men 2, because of similar music and sound effects
To be fair, Bloodlines isn't that creepy. Rondo of Blood and specially Super Castlevania IV have a way darker atmosphere.
Chakan THE FOREVER MAN my first creepy videogame!!!!
How about dark castle i played it once and i still have nightmares over it
Richard Scarry's Busytown is by far the Scarriest game on the Mega Drive.

Splatterhouse 2 is way more terrifying that 3. Nice game selection otherwise!
