Great exponents of the shoot em up that deserve to be on the list are missing (for example, Truxton, Hellfire, Undead Line...) but I looked for a bit of diversity here. I hope you understand! Enjoy the video!
I can say from experience, Alien Soldier's difficulty depends entirely of the player stopping to brute-force everything (as shown in the video), and start relying more on both Zero Teleport and Counter Force, which are explained right after selecting the loadout. Then the game becomes absolutely easy. Counter every single projectile thrown at your direction to turn them into HP Pickups until you max out your health, this makes the next Zero Teleport into a high-damage fire dash. Counter projectiles for HP again. Rinse and repeat. Counter Force is even more broken against bosses, once you realize that it can reflect back any projectiles that it can't turn to health. Matter of fact you will not finish the game until you learn this maneuver, because the final boss is immune against every single thing you can shoot him with... Except for his own fireballs.

As far as Streets of Rage 3 goes, I have completed the US version (with the good ending), but it was horribly difficult and that time limit on the final boss was too short.

Agreed. I bought Kid Chameleon when it came out and beat it the second day and I don't even consider myself a great player, just persistent. I can also run through Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Shadow Dancer in my sleep. Shadow Of The Beast? Yeah, that game was bullsh*t. I heard it's because it wasn't optimized for the US and it runs too fast.
Great selections as usual. What about Altered Beast, Saint Sword, Landstalker, Vectorman & Rocket Knight Adventures? On higher difficulty settings some of these games can be brutal.
The worst thing about my selections is that when I read your games I realize that I could make 1000 different lists (and just as valid!). Those games truly deserves to be in the top
Many thanks! Retroarch with CRT Royale (shader). But the image quality is more due to the video capture I do (at high quality and very large files) and the rendering modes in the video editor. Aladdin is not that difficult. Most of them are not that difficult. Like shadow dancer and more. But if you will play like a complete noob yes you are gonna get your ass handed to you. Thats Sega. Amazing console
Bubsy. . Sonic spinball. . Rocket knight adventures ( Hard level ). . Beauty and the beast. . Alexx kid in the enchanted castle. . Batman returns. . TMNT tournament fighters. . Maximum carnage. . Stargate.
I spent one whole summer with my grand parents and they only had a demo disk for pc as far as any video games in their house only good game was first three levels of comix zone I could no hit them
Several of these are only difficult because of cheap deaths. Shadow of the Beast being the worst of the lot. Things just zoom on screen and hit you. Aladdin wasn't all that difficult. For my money, LionKing was harder than Aladdin. Both games had the quick time esque chase levels that stood as the road block. Chakan was flat out impossible. Even if you're good at the game it's just relentless at times. Kid Chameleon really just beats you with boredom. On the surface it looks like a nice enough game. But the level design is such that you never get a good sense of progress. Everything just gets samey after a while and you don't even care about finishing this beast. Comic zone had one hell of a marketing budget for such an average game. Enemies are only tough in that they have way way too much health. This stalls progress artificially. Throw in a couple cheap jumps you can only just barely make and a tiny cast of enemies. You've got one of the shortest games that feels like everything takes forever.
I disagree with - Castlevania: Bloodlines - Disney's Aladdin - Earthworm Jim - RoboCop Versus The Terminator As I was able to beat them easily when I was a kid, Kid Chameleon isn't that hard just really tedious.
Some hard games that I remember: Gargoyles, Smash TV, Splatter House 3 (if we compare it with SOR3), Marko's Magic FootBall(it's ok at the start, and after few levels difficult just jump at insane level and design of level is horrible and unfair after 5-7 levels)
Oh! Marko's Magic Football, I had almost completely forgotten about it and now with your comment I remember very clear (Here in Spain we love all related to soccer)
@@BitsBeats Yeah, I own it very very long ago. I rent it, but it was bugged. If small slime touch you, game freezes(on level 2 and even final level, if you use password). I change game on X-perts. Man, X-perts is bad. After that I played Marko only on emulator a little. When I starting solid run I just stuck at level 7 or 8 at forest. It was ok game, but the more you play it, the more wacky level design you seeing. Forest just unfair and frustrating. I just star save scuming. After I somehow complete forest I don't continue it. Maybe someday I tried it again. Game have very good potential, but was destroyed with bad design. Maybe someone hack it someday and fix it.
Oh I remember two shumps - Fire Shark(console port) and Grind stormer. I complete Fire shark long ago on console. On last levels it very hard. Somehow I run throught final obstacles without upgrades and spent almost all continue. This game is long. But Grind stormer is insane. With cheats on unlimited continue and level select I somehow complete it on console long ago. But with normal rules I can't pass 4 level. This game can be unfair, just like Eliminate down
Contra, Kid Chameleon and Batman and Robin I agree on, the others are all managable with persistance, should not take more than a day practice to finish most, Hell I finished most of them back in the day as one day rentals.
Bloodlines, Contra H.C., Shadow Dancer, Ghouls and Ghost, M.U.S.H.A., Comix Zone and Aladdin were not difficult at all. Play them, learn the game's patterns, no problem.
Bloodlines and Aladdin shouldn't have been on this list, in my opinion. The others you listed, especially Comix Zone, deserve to be on the list though.
SOR 3 is very hard for a beat em up on default difficulty but wouldnt put it up at the top of hardest genesis games. I will agree with Dynamite Heady though. That game seemed very hard from what I played. I still think the hardest games are the more bullshit games with shit control. Chakan probably falls into that category. I think even skilled players are going to take much longer than a few hours to beat most of these, but Im basing it off the time some of these took me. Shadow Dancer gets tricky toward to final sections but really isnt that bad. As mentioned with your SNES list I would personally put most of these in the upper moderate to hard category, with some exceptions.
I’ve beaten all the SOR games, Aladdin, Bloodlines, Dynamite Headdy but Contra is in another level! I’ve beaten Alien Wars on the SNES but damn Hard Corps is tough. Shooters are a category unto themselves. This whole video could be on them.
I could only beat Target Earth via a chest that let me upgrade things earlier. Even with that cheat though it was still tough, but what a cool anime presentation the story had.
The Immortal does take a leap of faith or two, and precise control can be tricky with that scrolling, but it's not insurmountable. Fatal Labyrinth is long _and_ frustrating due to the reliance on random levels and random items, but *spoiler* use the bow bug to get 99 AR and you won't mind so much if you fall through a trap door once or twice.
Dynamite Headdy starts out fairly manageable for the first 5-6 stages then around stage 7 the difficulty is amped till the final boss which is almost impossible, without a turbo controller at least
Aladdin is easy i never had boss problems until the end sorta and rhe rug ride is kinda a pain on hard but in no way is it really hard compared to the other games on the list
I note some of these games can get *really* easy once you understand enemy spawn locations; once upon a time I could reliably beat Earthworm Jim, as was fully capable of beating both Contra: Hard Corps (all four routes) and Castlevania Bloodlines (Hard Mode) without taking a hit. And yet, I could never beat the first level of Comix Zone.
Contra hardcorps just makes me feel like a jackass for even trying to play it...don't think I ever even beat the 1st level... On the other hand I was pretty good at some of the shooters on here

@@ArcaneAzmadi yes!
@@greensun1334 Eh? Shining Force 1 is a super-easy One Trick Pony; just Egress in each Battle until your Party is suitably levelled for progressing. HOWEVER, if you just plough on ahead, several of the Boss Battles will be near-impossible. 😉
@@divinefallfromgrace I'm talking about a boss battle
@@greensun1334 Which one? The Marionette, or Mishaela? (It's usually one of these) 🙂
Awesome video I like the thumbnail
I have never played The Immortal, but I did laugh at the precognition joke.
Kid Chameleon is my worst nightmare and after beating it I felt SO GOOD!
Great list! Some of these games i didn't even had the chance to play yet. I was wondering... How did you record the gameplay? The effects look rly great!
Emulator probably
As far as Streets of Rage 3 goes, I have completed the US version (with the good ending), but it was horribly difficult and that time limit on the final boss was too short.
Out of these, I beat Streets of Rage 3, Aladdin, Earthworm Jim, and Comix Zone. For Contra Hard Corps, I recommend the Japanese version, it's much easier. There's a fan translation too, but it's not necessary to play the game.
I've beaten a few of these titles.. the one that I really felt like a complete gamer was on contra hard corps. when I was 14 I beat every route even the surrender and secret endings in one sitting. I even did route B with no death run.
Ah yes, I remember as a kid buying (or rather my parents buying) Aladdin for the Genesis and coming home to play it expecting a fun CASUAL game based off of a brilliant movie...oh I couldn't have been more WRONG in my expectations (except for the fun part)!
Thanks for The Video Your Video is Really Nice👍👍
Agree with most of them, specially Hard Corps. Insanely hard.
But Streets of Rage 3 doesn't come even close to the others, it's quite easy to beat. And Ecco the Dolphin is a memorizing game, once you've got it, it gets very beatable.
Epic video as always thanks for another amazing video my friend!😎👍👍👍
Great video's. Do they get strikes or does the for education purposes keep them in the clear?
All the content is recorded by me, no strikes
@@BitsBeats I was curious because of the sound and music. Thank you for answering me. I'm trying to figure out the copyright system so I can upload videos too.
@@NobodyAtAll420 no problem! But when you upload a video with gameplay, try always to add something (valuable info, commentaries, box arts, etc), then UA-cam will not find any problems with your content! But with some games you'll receive copyright warning, that's usually more for the music, but not strikes at all
Don't worry. I'm not going to do the same as you. Haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet.
@@BitsBeats thank you very much!

My PTSD kicked in hard the very moment "Ghouls N' Ghosts" showed up. Thanks for that, I guess.
Excellent video!
Many thanks!!
This was awesome 👍
Oh man! Kid Chameleon!! My older brother once got close to the end, but that's it.
The Death and Return of Superman should be on the list.
I can agree about the rest but Aladdin, Earthworm Jim, Streets of Rage 3 and Comix Zone? Seriously??? They are easiest games on Mega Drive possible! Just get good! And if you want a REALLY hard games, then check out next games:
Altered Beast
Another World

Accurate selection for a hardest genesis games part 2 ;)
I'm proud of having finished Streets Of Rage 3, The Adventures Of Batman & Robin Castlevania Bloodlines and Earthworm Jim. But i've never finished Comix Zone.....that game was too much for me.... Where's Rocket Knight Adventure and The Revenge Of Shinobi?
But Rocket Knight is easy, if you play it on default level. Even normal level just little harder. 1-hit KO only insanely impossible.
MUSHA is considered one of the easiest shmup games of all time, the hardest thing in that game is to die tbh. Awesome video anyways, ty!
I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with you putting Kid Chameleon on this list. Some levels can be a bit challenging, yes, but I wouldn't put it down as one of the hardest games on the system.
Man, I would love to know what emulator do you use and how you set up the filters... your images are pristine!
Many thanks! Retroarch with CRT Royale (shader). But the image quality is more due to the video capture I do (at high quality and very large files) and the rendering modes in the video editor. I have done many tests until I get an optimal quality that has minor losses with the compression of UA-cam. It takes me a long time to render the videos but I am very committed to giving to all of you an excellent audiovisual content
@@BitsBeats thank you very much! You are the best ❤
Comix Zone is not hard. It is short and has many tricks to make it easier.
What trick for jumping over the pits?
Request: The hardest Sega Master System games
📝👍
Great list, great to see utter soul-crushers like Fatal Labyrinth, SoR 3, Kid Chameleon and Chakan in there!! You could've easily had 50 Titles in there though... other Honourable Mentions:- The Revenge Of Shinobi, Eternal Champions, Herzog Zwei, Zero Tolerance, Sol-Feace, Puggsy, Altered Beast, Alien Storm, 2 Crude Dudes, Strider, Xenon 2... 💜🤟🏻
When you play a game , struggling for hours , pushing your gaming skills to it's limits , on default "normal" setting mind you , beat it and then you get the black screen ending with the message *"try a harder level" ......*
😠 YOU SON OF A!!!!!!!!
4:17 O Dark Souls do MEGADRIVE 👺
Aladdin's hard? Wait what? Is this the same game I've been playing all these years?
How Judge Dredd never makes these lists is beyond me. Dredd is a tough game
The hardest games are the ones with limited continues
I have played some of this .
They really are brutal
Aladdin is not that difficult.
Most of them are not that difficult.
Like shadow dancer and more.
But if you will play like a complete noob yes you are gonna get your ass handed to you.
Thats Sega.
Amazing console
You should've include RISTAR.. difficult game.
. Bubsy.
. Sonic spinball.
. Rocket knight adventures ( Hard level ).
. Beauty and the beast.
. Alexx kid in the enchanted castle.
. Batman returns.
. TMNT tournament fighters.
. Maximum carnage.
. Stargate.
It hurts soo good.
Great list! A game I'd add would be Bio-Harzard Battle. Great shooter, extremely difficult! Well at least for me lol
i never found aladdin that hard
I spent one whole summer with my grand parents and they only had a demo disk for pc as far as any video games in their house only good game was first three levels of comix zone I could no hit them
I've beaten Aladdin. It only took like 20 years but I did it.
Honorable mentions: the lion king, vectorman, the simpsons bart's nightmare, jurassic park, Bram stoker's Dracula, last action hero
I disagree with
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Disney's Aladdin
- Earthworm Jim
- RoboCop Versus The Terminator
As I was able to beat them easily when I was a kid, Kid Chameleon isn't that hard just really tedious.
I wholeheartedly agree with EWJ and Kid Chameleon, imo.
I do disagree with the others you listed, though.
Cool list!
Makes me wanna play more genesis games!
"Hard"... Is take a water glass when you dont have hands...
If you do a video on difficult arcade games, have Raiden in the list, that game is unforgiving
I'm working on it
Aladdin more difficult than contra? It was a pretty easy game to complete.
completed most of those games as a kid, they weren't that hard its just games today are super easy by comparison :D
In this video, it's hard for me to play a ghouls 'n ghost.
Contra Hard Corps,
O
M
G
just do yourself a favor and play the jp version.
I’ve beaten all the SOR games, Aladdin, Bloodlines, Dynamite Headdy but Contra is in another level! I’ve beaten Alien Wars on the SNES but damn Hard Corps is tough. Shooters are a category unto themselves. This whole video could be on them.
The Lion King never disappoint me, really hard when I play it as a kid 😅😅. Comix Zone too
You thought being Batman would be that easy?
I always found Aladdin easy but Shadow of the Beast has my vote for hardest game in the world
Me 2 aladdin was never that hardJaffar at the end isnt even all that hard.I hated those bomb skeletons and the rug ride part thats it
Contra hardcorps just makes me feel like a jackass for even trying to play it...don't think I ever even beat the 1st level... On the other hand I was pretty good at some of the shooters on here
hard corps was much easier (and better) then the snes version. the snes contra was brutal.
