We are truly fortunate that our climates in Southern Arizona, New Mexico, and here where I am in Southern California..my 58 cadillac and 68 Mustang have spent their entire lives here, near palm springs. And are just amazing underneath, just beautiful, absolutely nothing needs attention from rust. Now, the strong sun will ruin your paint jobs, crack you're dash, fade you're upholstery, but if you keep them waxed, put up a sunshade, and tint your windows, that will mitigate that quite a bit. Of course the best thing is to have a garage to house them in.
That's AWESOME that Peak sponsored you!! Really nice. I totally agree about not flushing a system, if you need to do a drain and swap due to time or mileage, just drain your rad and engine, whatever comes out comes out, fill it back up and call it good. Same for the sludge.. that's important stuff (the engine needs that weight to stay in there!!)

Suburbans are great. I had an 86 I bought new for $19K. My kids loved it. Three row seating, rear AC. It would pass everything except a gas station. This one is a gem and hope you keep it and fix everything!, Well done!!
Ran straight water in my 94’ for awhile since it had a leak I was putting off fixing. Needless to say, lots of rust ensued. Ran some CLR thru it, and drained it. Looked like a rust milkshake going down the driveway, down the block. Put a aftermarket diesel coolant filter in-line on the heater hose and ran that for a few months. Chris, this Burb is a gem! I personally think it should be at the top of your Keep list. A crossover with Dalton to get it shining is a great idea. As it is, I would want at least $5000, after the deep detailing maybe $10k! If it doesn’t sell, who cares?! 😊
That sensor you removed from the block drain, is a "knock" sensor for ignition timing. It is recommended to install a new one, and it does require a torque spec. New sealant on the threads and/or not torqueing will compromise its sensitivity.
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow The ECM does a knock test which involves checking to make sure that knock sensor responds. If it doesn't it will throw a code and pull a ton of advance. So yes recommend a new AC Delco and install exactly the factory way.
Back in the OBD-I days, that sensor was added to "feel" the low frequency vibration associated with "spark knock". There is,, inaudible, and audible spark knock. Audible spark knock, as you know will burn a hole in the piston,, but inaudible spark knock will pound the upper half of the rod bearing out. That's (in a way,) kind of a bonus we got from OBD-I . The computer as forementioned in another comment, will throw as much advance at the timing as it can until it "feels" inaudible spark knock. So with OBD-I your engine will run a-bit cooler and make a-bit more power with premium fuel over low-test fuel. On OBD-II it doesn't matter because it controls more parameters than Its predecessor.
@@deanmeyers1690 What I described happens very briefly the first time you engage Performance Enrichment mode on an ignition cycle. This ECM and in general OBD-I cars do NOT try to run timing on the ragged edge using only knock detection to keep things under control. The intent of the calibration (with a properly functioning engine and the correct octane) will NOT need to retard any timing. It's there for protection. Also, it will pull timing more aggressively so if you are riding the knock sensor all the time, you are not getting optimal performance and should reduce base timing (in a GM TBI particularly). Or there is something wrong like carbon build up.
Sorry Bud; I didn't intend to start a confusing discussion over the sensor,, just merely explaining what's a proper repair and that it does more than plug a water leak. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Yes Dalton from pole barn garage custom incredible body work that 50 something Ford daddy painted with Tractor Supply paint came out absolutely amazing
Intake manifold leaks on this generation of Chevy engine is quite common. I had to change the intake manifold gaskets on my '91 C-1500 pickup at around 100k. With that much clogging I would imagine you are going to need a radiator and a water pump before long as well. Both are easy to change. Ask me how I know?!
Retired dealer tech tip when pulling small block Chevy distributors. Bump or turn the engine over until the rotor is pointing straight back towards the firewall and scribe or make a chalk mark so you can drop the distributor back in the exact way it came out and then you just need to set your base timing per the instructions on the label on the air cleaner or core support or look them up in Alldata or another reputable source. There are multiple ways to set the timing. Be sure to use the correct one. Bonus tip. If you can still get updated PROM's for the ECM, you can increase horsepower and drivability considerably.
Chris dug the update on Emma 2.0 enjoyed it a great deal and the Torino is looking awesome! I DIG 70S CARS ! Since that was what I could buy and were plenty when I was younger! I hope to see a Fury update soon! Got my flag flying proudly! Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and cruise that sweet Torino as Much as you can!
Simply love that Ford Torino Elite! Gorgeous and rare cars!! Just as much for the Suburban. With how Clean and rust-free it is, You'd be silly not to be asking $8,000 or more for it. I'd say Buff, and polish it. Slap some Patina sauce on it and new side body molding.

Absolutely love the old Burbans, brings back alot of memories, you did a great job on flushing and cleaning everything out. I'm big on maintenance and I would have done the exact same thing and start fresh. That truck is an absolute dimond and if I were you I would be keeping that one only cause when are you ever going to find another one that clean and free of rust like that.. Just my opinion, this one has me thinking of going to the bank tuesday and sending you some cash cause I'm in love and already have ideas of what I would do with it.. clean truck, you did the right thing with changing all fluids.. great video, much respect chris, happy memorial day and thank you for all you do brother!!
Just FYI regular enamel paint is good up to a few hundred degrees Fahrenheit. It's fine for intake manifolds and valve covers. If the engine's getting hot enough to harm standard paint you've got other problems.
Love your comment about your new "open air" concept!!!😂😂..can't wait to see your new facility completed!!...Good Luck Brother....always enjoy watching your bids!!!!👍👍👍
Enjoying your videos - new subscriber here. As one that once lived in the Midwest - I'd toss out the idea of soaking the belly of that baby in either Fluid Film or Wool Wax - Wool Wax doesn't smell as strong - but either do an amazing job of keeping the rust away - and it washes off. I use to treat my rigs twice a year - it makes the bottom slimy and dirty = but not rusty! You can't use it on the newer GM with the soft/wax coat frames - but this Suburban is perfect.
Love the suburban. My parents have a '91. Also love that these videos have side activities, like going on the trails and taking gus to the dog park. Keep up the good work.
I love those older Suburbans! An old mechanic told me to run liquid Dawn in the system when doing a flush. The soap provides a lube and it gets the ick out. I've done it since and you won't believe the crap I get out of the system. I love that Gran Torino! One in my area for sale for $4,000, has a 351. Would be fun, but the wifey frowned at me :( LOL. Nice thing about Peak is, if you read the contents, no calcium (salt). Combined with the distilled water you get no build up of junk and no corrosion of aluminum radiators...

Bonus tip. If you can still get updated PROM's for the ECM, you can increase horsepower and drivability considerably.
I just marked it and put it back in the same way it came out and then checked the base timing after warming it up
Or this.😊
Chris dug the update on Emma 2.0 enjoyed it a great deal and the Torino is looking awesome! I DIG 70S CARS ! Since that was what I could buy and were plenty when I was younger! I think Emma 2.0 Being a clean rust free Sqarebody Suburban is at least worth 5 to 6 K. I wouldn't sell it for anything less. I watch Daltons channel also and if anything you could send it to him or use it as your tool rig. Either way I enjoy your channel its one of the ones I watch regularly.
I have two 88 Chevy customized vans. Never had trouble with them other than routine service. I have a 91 S10 Blazer 4 dr.. Best little run around vehicle ever.
Never give up your freedom
Love your comment about your new "open air" concept!!!😂😂..can't wait to see your new facility completed!!...Good Luck Brother....always enjoy watching your bids!!!!👍👍👍
I love EVERY SINGLE VIDEO YOU MAKE
Chris you are the man. God bless you brother, you're such a talented guy.
Believe it or not out here in Kentucky you can buy those Burbans rust free for $2,000 to $3,000 all day long . Love what you did with this one
Just came across this video, great job, thanks for taking us along your journey, real life problem solving. Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I can hear that beautiful Suburban burble all the way over here in Mooloolaba Australia . Thanks for the great vids 🤗
Love the suburban. My parents have a '91. Also love that these videos have side activities, like going on the trails and taking gus to the dog park. Keep up the good work.
I love that Gus gets to go so many places. I am the same way with mine. Good to see another video man!
i love the mid 70's cars...yes i stayed
till the end :)
Thanks for letting us tag a long!
Thanks!
Thanks so much man! Appreciate the support
Nice to see Emma 2.0 getting the love.
love seeing those old suburban's back on the road .
Nice thing about Peak is, if you read the contents, no calcium (salt). Combined with the distilled water you get no build up of junk and no corrosion of aluminum radiators...
I live in Canada and during the summer months, I use 1 gallon water and 1 tbsp dish soap to make my own windshield washer fluid. In Sept I switch back to alcohol based...better for env and save a buck ! TIMBO !
She seems to ride so smooth on the highway like butter.
I,personally would keep this gem of a car .
But hey ho,aint my car, aint my video.
Good luck Chris,Jen,Turbo & Gus.
Thanks for supplying me with free factual TV .
Dang! That’s one clean suburban underneath.
Throw a cheap paint job on that suburban and use it for your travels for other vehicles, like you had mentioned. It has so much room and you guys could do so much with it. Thank you for the great videos man.
love the Gus man.
I used to hate that old style of Suburban back in the day, and I was so happy when the new Suburban came out around 1992. Now, I hate the new Suburbans and these old boxy models are looking better and better! Funny how time, the slimming down of the population, and the additional complexities of modern cars (not to mention the prices!) will make you love simple stuff from decades ago!
