I had a 70 Monte Carlo as a teenager. The bench front seat was great to get the girls sitting right next to you! Man we had a lot of fun in that car. It was a rusted out beater but lots of great memories. This video is making me want another one! Great find with the 454!
My first car was a 1972 Monte Carlo that I bought in 1976 man oh man that car was a looker and a runner I wish I had it today. This brought back a lot of good memories.
Wow ... Bringing back the memories. I had a 1970 Monte Carlo SS Stock 454 Picked it up for $800 back in 1982. It had a wiped cam and spun main bearings, and the little old lady I bought it from had taken an ice scraper to the the ENTIRE car after a freezing rain ice storm ! Rebuilt the engine and a quick paint job ... good as new ! One of many cars I've owned that I wish I had kept.
This was one of my favorite videos that you have done. In 1985, I bought a very clean 1972 monte carlo which has a Big Block 454 427 hp engine, which I have done a lot of work to it, including body work, front end replacement, new brakes. I overhauled the Turbo 400 transmission with Jags HD clutches and discs. I completely disassembled the engine and blue printed it. Had the crank balanced and polished and the block boiled. It has a 427 hp cam and double-pumper Holly carb and a dual plane after market Edlebrook intake. I added 2 1/2 inch Hooker headers and side pipes and balanced quad exhaust that exits in front of the rear tires. I balanced the drive shaft. I replaced the stock distributor and coil with a new style high voltage system. I am in the process of replacing the vinyl top and the glass. It is such a fun car to drive. It is one of my favorite cars.
Good on you for keeping it for so long.I definitely think the 70-72 is the best one.I have a 1970 blue/blue that I was cloning into a 454 SS 20yrs ago. I drove it for a summer after I installed the engine, which was out of a '73.Found out later it had a burnt valve. Still haven't fixed that yet though.
Uncle had a 71 Monte he got new. 350/350 drivetrain. All original. My dad repainted the car in 79. Had maybe 60k miles. Solid as can be. Just remember it had power everything. Like a kid with buttons. 😊
Man, when you first started that car, my heart just flew. What a sound from my youth. A 454 ! Great power. Beautiful car. Wish it was mine. I'd drive it proudly. 🙏

My high school buddy got a 1970 monte from his dad when he turned 16. That was in 1979. We brought it into shop class at beginning of year and still wasn't done at Christmas break. Well, Critter, wasn't having any of that! He bribed the janitor and got into the school and finished on his own and showed up to the Christmas races! We all Lol. BTW.. he still owns that rig today!
First gen Monte, my dream car. Been on the hunt for a decent one for years. The perfect mix of elegance and anger rolled up into one badass muscle car package.

Chris, I love this monte Carlo, I wonder how much would it cost to make it road worthy. I'm not a racer, just like to smoothly ride and look good. I owned a 1970 MC back in the day, traveled the east coast a lot. Man those were the days.
Just like back in the day! Those mirrors were known for that since year two of there after you got them new. My neighbor bought one for his wife and it was triple blue with a 400/400 turbo and floor shifter and factory air. Was one of the nicer stock care in the neighborhood back in the mid 70's.
Mid 60s kid here this 1970 Monte Carlo same color. tires & all was my first car learning how to drive..my brother bought it brand new right off the showroom floor he was a welder & on his side work he & my dad was bowling in tournaments big TV pro bowlers but walked away from it after winning big paychecks & went back to their normal jobs but everytime they go bowling in the tournaments they'll take the 70 Monte Carlo my brother handed me the keys & said don't leave the parking lot welp there was a Mile long road on the back side of the bowling alley all lit up like daylight I'd turn up the radio & cruise from one end to the other. after cruising around I'd go back up front to parallel park that part was scary because parking & being sandwiched between cars or trucks in .my brothers brand new Monte Carlo was way easy to smash into another vehicle but I made it with no dents or scratches. Thank God lol I missed that car it was awesome & a head turner them days. Thanks for bringing back good Ole 1970 Monte Carlo memories I also miss my brother more than the car I lost him 3 years ago. That sounds so damn good! Who needs a stereo when the pipes are singing a tune like that? Happen to have a part# for whatever Flowmasters were on it? I'm sure the motor, long tubes and 3" exhaust really gave it the nice bark, but really love the deep sound!
I like the outro music. What was Jen doing in the cooler there? Lol. You ever figure out where that random bolt came from during the donut extravaganza? Lol
Someone's gonna be a lot happier/fortunate than I am. Monte's, Nova's, and Chevelle's are the pinnacle of muscle car styling IMHO. Mom had one when I was 10, 37 years later I still can't afford one but as long as whomever gets it takes care of it right I'm good. Such a survivor can't believe how solid this is, thanks for the video NNKH!
My best high school friend Jeff has the same car sitting in his father's garage only it came stock with the big block and floor shift. He bought it in the early 80s and yes its still there. I miss that car and those days
Bought and sold over 150 cars over the past 59 plus years including having to get bonded titles. My philosophy now is if the seller doesn't have a title in his own name, notarized then HE doesn't own the vehicle. Trying to get a bonded title is fine until the last registered owner claims it. Nothing you can do about it except turn it over. I got lucky a few times then someone claimed a piece of junk car. Run from title problems unless you got the car for free.
Nice to know! My brother-in-law stole my 64 Falcon station wagon, sold it, and convinced my parents it was o.k. when I said NO my parents told me no to ruin my sisters marriage.. I think I'll look to reclaim it. If you bought a 1964 Falcon from Bob Eubanks in Oregon get ready to lose my car!
Glad I could your channel! Love your videos, and Gus !! My wife and I have a yorkie/dachshund, Fitz, and I spend most of my time in the garage, thanks for the tips!!
the 70 Monte is my favorite. I've had a few. This one looks pretty ok! And a console/bucket car too boot. I'd love to have another one. Ahhh... someday!

Jeez you could buy them complete running for $125.00 in poor shape to $500.00 in xf condition. There were literally thousands in the three coastal counties of Mississippi alone. We thought they would be there forever. But they weren't. It seemed like one year they all gone. But I guess that's what makes them so special now. Party on dude. Live long and prosper.
Can't believe I missed this one! What a great watch! Monte is my all time favorite and Dream car. Had an 81 at 17 but got totaled. Still a dream to have another. Fun time watching this one. The donuts were impressive lol
Two and a half inch exhaust would be fine for that car. You would probably gain a little bit more bottom end torque. 3-in exhaust is for high horsepower applications. Sweet ride! I like it!
Damn fine Monte. I've always liked the first generation the most, despite multiple attempts I haven't come home with one. Happy to see you get to enjoy that feeling of a heavy handling Monte Carlo.
One of the smartest compoents you could buy now would be a fast ratio steering gear like the one I have on my 72 Chevelle. It entirely modifies the character of the driving experience.
Agree!! Had a 12:1 box built for my 67 E.C in the 90s...now you can buy them cheap from summit. Makes a night and day difference feels like rack n pinion!
The first year that the Monte Carlo came out. My dream car would be a '70 SS , horseshoe shifter,454, throaty exhaust like Chris's. I had a '70 350 car and I wish I never would have sold it
Chris! Wow, That Monte Carlo 1970 has a nice color and Some Beef When you Did Donuts in a Closed area! You definitely know your Craft! You and Derek Should get together and do a Video! Both you two are Very informative and Talented! Enjoyed this video very much! Like you're Presentation! 🎉🎉🎉
That's bad ass I use to have a 1971 and a 1973 Monte Carlo the 71 had a 454 big block it was blue with black interior and the 73 I had was white with black interior that had a 350 small block till I blew it up and put a big block in it anyway that car is bad ass
Of all the cars you have done on your show this is the one I can't believe you sold this one. I had a 72 with a big block and was it was the second nicest car I ever had. I still can't believe you sold it.
If I had a massive pole barn I would consider keeping all these cars but I can't stand to see the things sitting outside or even under a cover. Plus I get a little bored of cars after owning them for a little bit

Everything you go over and fix is usually done very tastefully in my family's opinion since we are and were ASE mechanical technicians. We are sure you are also experiencing how you work and tear into anything and fix it. Safely, I will add.
1970 was a great year for cars! Can't wait to hear the story with the Po Po. Also looking forward to the JD 310. Lost in when you were doing the doughnuts and the bolt flew out. We have a 1970 Monte that is so similar to this video! Older restoration, nice from far but far from nice, drives... My husband wants to do some of these mods (bucket seats, floor shifter, vinyl top) to his. Anyway, somehow we missed this before. Wish we could've seen the ebay listing! It's a nice car 😊
Absolutely can not wait for the John Deere 310 video. I absolutely love your content, and I love tractors. Best of luck with the sale of the car, still sad I missed out on the bronco.
When we were lads if we had riveted brake shoes saturated with brake fluid we would boil them for a half hour. Always seemed to bring them up well with no traces of brake fluid. Never tried it on bonded shoes though. Congratulations on the sale price and hopefully that’s a good profit for you. Probably would have made ten times that if Jen came with the car. We thought they would be there forever. But they weren't. It seemed like one year they all gone. But I guess that's what makes them so special now. Party on dude. Live long and prosper.
That is a pretty nice rig! I hope whoever the new owner is will take good care of it.
Yup back then we didn't worry about gas thank you for the trip down memory lane four stars
Love that year MC. It's always been my dream car. Wish I could afford to get this from you.
The first year that the Monte Carlo came out. My dream car would be a '70 SS , horseshoe shifter,454, throaty exhaust like Chris's. I had a '70 350 car and I wish I never would have sold it
@@marcusrolling599 Me too. Had a 350 300 hp that was a great engine.
Sold mine to my brother and never was paid a dime...
That was one of my favorites back in the day...
Your advice on brake jobs really helped me out with doing the pads and rotors on my explorer last weekend
Awesome to hear that the advice was helpful. Thanks!
Fantastic video Mr with a good mix of everything and love to see the little boys playing together and Jen too. Perfect
That's bad ass I use to have a 1971 and a 1973 Monte Carlo the 71 had a 454 big block it was blue with black interior and the 73 I had was white with black interior that had a 350 small block till I blew it up and put a big block in it anyway that car is bad ass
Damn that’s a beautiful car! Love the random bolt flying off lol
I always wanted to live at the end of a nice quiet peaceful cul-de-sac LOL
Definitely would like a video explaining the fury and chevelle title issues (when its cool to discuss). Love all the videos, you are one of the best.
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I know what you mean I just love cars. I wish I could have kept every car I ever owned. And that Monte Carlo reminded me of my 1972 witch I did a lot of work on, just loved that car. Look forward to your next show and some of Max.
Ebay? Nooooo. Keeper. How could you not fall in love?
had a buddy that had one in 71, ran like a top and was a blast to kick around in... great vid and story, have a good one Chris.
Yeah Buddy!!!! That things going to be a ripper!!!!!!! Put the front tires on the back and they will be round in no time 😂
I grew up when those cars came out they were sure of blast It's just flip cards for a hobby and I'd probably gone through a 150 cars trucks trucks those Monte Carlos I love them Thanks for the videos brings back a lot of memories especially the donuts
Everything you go over and fix is usually done very tastefully in my family's opinion since we are and were ASE mechanical technicians. We are sure you are also experiencing how you work and tear into anything and fix it. Safely, I will add.
Loved that white Monte Carlo with the blue rally stripes. Never saw one in white👍
Great video, all good fun content. Throughly enjoy watching 60s/70 classic cars.
Some lucky buyer is going to be happy with that.
Always loved the 1st generation. Monte Carlos.
1970 was a great year for cars! Can't wait to hear the story with the Po Po. Also looking forward to the JD 310. Lost in when you were doing the doughnuts and the bolt flew out. Did you ever find out where it came from? Also the mpg's on the thing! I know what its like cause l drive a diesel. Love your content! Found when I was troubleshooting my waste oil furnace been hooked ever since! Keep it up!
Nothing like good old American muscle. Im a Ford guy but this Monte is a beast. A friend of mine had one exactly like this engine and everything. It hauled ass.
I always watch to the end. Always good to see a little bit of little Gus. Wish Leo would pop in. Thanks for the work and time making the videos. Not always about getting cars started. Just good honest content. Love to get up your way and explore cars or any machinery. Don't really have that much stock laying around in Oz.. shame, If it's laying around, some clown wants your house deposit for it. Australia is watching JB
I had a '70 Monte Carlo, but with shifter on the column.Factory 275hp 350, 350turbo tranny . This brought back some of my favorite memories being
The "deep groove" in the rotor isn't a groove. That's actually an OEM rotor. That's how they were made by GM. 👍
Really...that's crazy. I wonder if the pads were different to match.
@@icanfartloud nope. Pads were flat just like they are now.
Yeah, that was a factory rotor.
@@Lugnut64052 yep! 😁
The "groove" in my rotors threw me off too. Oh well, still got new pads rotors and bearings
Excellent video! (as always) You may heve contributed to some1970 Monte Carlo demand out there in the collector world!
I liked the pace of the video. Just what you’re doing no filler crap!
Love your videos, great work, I’m currently addicted to these kinds of car/ truck revival videos! You and Derek at Vice Grip Garage are my favorites!
NNKH is SO much better (read:genuine) than VGG. Dereks gimmicky baby language gets old.
@@DannebergAcres I watched him also, I’m not picky about who I watch
My two favorite revival channels as well … both are great in their own ways and will probably meet some day…
@@mikeferraro8917 They met at DuckTapeDrags. Derek signed Chris' El Camino "going to town rig". Didn't help its value. LOL!
I loved the video of the 70 Monte. I just wish I had seen it sooner.
That is a clean unit!
Sweet car. My father had one. The only GM car he ever owned. He loved his Fords. Great content. Thanks for all you do.
She’s one in a million. Cheers 🍻
Cool car, currently 3,000 on ebay at the time if leaving this comment. I could see this car going for 5,000 to 7 or 8 grand, definitely worth it.
I wonder where it ended up?

I can't believe you made it all the way to Mexico for that amazing street testing
