Having all these preamps under one roof allows a person to audition them back to back to back, unlike in real life with hardware. Nobody I know has one of each preamp made in their studio. It's not until you hear them this way that you realize how subtle the differences really are. I am not expecting a black and white difference, but what I hear is so subtle I have to ask myself if this piece of gear is even necessary. Give me a good tube pre and a solid state pre and I'm good to go.

I own one of these, I take a lot of flack from my colleagues at work for it as they all disapprove of the whole Liquid idea.... I personally love it, it sounds amazing.... are there any other forums or users around ?
James what is you take on this rack ? As you mentioned it is an older piece of kit... I am curious what made you decide to do a review on it now ?

It's true that the pre-amp differences don't come across that well on the video. However, owning one I can say it's a pretty awesome unit and definitely a keeper in my studio. As a concept it definitely works they occasionally turn up on Ebay for around £800 . At that price it still represents a great investment as you'll have to spend a shed load on multiple pre's to get all those options contained in one box.

Dumped my LC when I bought an Avalon 737. Great piece of gear, the LC, but nothing compared to the actual preamps and compressors it tries to mimic. It doesn't actually have a tube/valve in it so I wasn't expecting miracles compared to the Avalons and Manleys of this world.

Nice video :) .. i own one myself and is very happy with it. But it is about subtle differences and some people really think there is waay too much magic going on with preamps. Its just preamps :)

Can I explain how to connect it from the back Note that I have an intervice moto hd 896 possible picture or video showing the way to connect from the back and the second question Do you have to install the definition of a driver to work on the program of protols hd Virgin 10
Because there is a USB out of the back
Because I frankly bought it and was unable to connect it to the moto

I can hear a difference. Make sure your listening on good quality monitors or headphones. The difference on some weren't dramatic but if you listen on a good playback you should be able to hear how some have a bit more bass or a clearer top end or a slight dip in the mids.

Surely the test is if they sound as the originals NOT how different they sound from each other. It may not sound as you would expect/like but surely that's not the same thing as being authentic?

A lot of vintage gear varies from unit to unit. Getting hung up on the "accuracy" of a simulation when there is no possible reference to compare to is just getting caught up in an idology of "only the real thing will do" .. which anyone is free to do and throw a small fortune at fullfilling. When those vintage or classic units were new, the engineer would be judging the unit by it's sound in isolation, listening with their ears and not the chatter in their heads - an engineer today should be doing the same.
That the tones and sounds of each preset are derived from an emulation does not matter at all - what matters is the sound only and if there is magic to be had from the Liquid Channel. The test is whether it sounds good as a tool in the studio.
Now, *if* the emulations, when compared to originals, do do a great job of replicating their sound then that's a bonus and the design team can be happy in achieving what they set out to achieve.
Imagine if Focusrite advertised the unit as simply providing a vast sonic pallet to work with and not mention that they derived that pallet from emulations... would it change anything? Shouldn't do.

I really can't tell that much of the difference... Would it be possible for you to put like the Wav somewhere on the net so we can hear it raw? :)

I didn't hear any difference in tone from every preset tried through this video. I listened to this review through my AKG K271II headphones connected to a Focusrite saffire 40. Not convinced this is worth getting.

yeah i was thinking the exact same thing ^^ it's just a kinda mental persuasion marketing approach IMO ....i think the Goldmike preamp which i know i much worth the investment with a real vintage Komp rack 🤟

Record a sound and run it through with the different settings.

I take it you had to remove the music at some point, as there are no examples to listen to here :

Im With Michael on this one. I dont hear any difference. Might be the compression in you tube or something. I thought I had a ear for these things but I guess I dont.

Phase? You mean Polarity. Phase is a time variant, Polarity is technically what these switches do.

I can barely discern the differences in the preamp models. Seriously, they are so subtle as to be almost comical. For this money, I'd expect more.
