The transcript was great, too😊. For one thing, I further realized for myself that starting out as a pure amateur mixer, being a 44 year old drummer with blessed hearing, was a financial blessing in disguise. The video's are so spot-on in explaining advanced techniques in the analog world, the channel always keeps me in check (and cheque😅). Great stuff❤
That handclap can be barely heard without Skulpter, but through it - it can be heard so well, and stereo picture is rather... clearer, and wider? Nice, nice!
If you've got a really old pair of Sony MDR-7506s, I highly recommend you buy a new set. Mine was 10 years old and when I bought a new set today. I can't believe how much BASS I lost from the old set! The new set also sounds much tighter!
That's just what I was thinking! Especially in mastering when a track is so digital, and cheap that you HAVE to give it some analog mojo, you for sure need a pad, to at the very least run 2-4 db of preamp gain on it. TBH I run preamps on my mixbuss! But I'm mostly ITB now
Occasionally I've tried mastering with soundskulptor mp 573 (1073 clone) and they don't come out bad, they give just the right amount of saturation. The problem can happen if you overdo the saturation, you lose a little bit of the bass. On the high freqs, however, I have noticed that they soften nicely. Now, seeing that you also use preamps in the masters, I feel a little less lonely and less crazy
Couldn't listen yet... but this iseven useful for a itb guy like me. When remastering albums, i use my 'standard' software pre-amp, just for good measure. This cheap plugin proved essential for any stereo mixing. And i can admit in this channel that it was a nice investment. Keep on!
I am by no means an audio engineer, but I watch a lot of these types of videos. When guitar players want to test two amplifiers against each other, what they often will do is capture a performance on a looper, then play the looper through each app. This guarantees identical performances. Wouldn’t it be possible to capture an audio performance, then play it back through a high fidelity speaker, and use the same microphone in the same location in front of that speaker, and then fiddle with the preamp farther down the line? This way, everything is identical except for the preamp. Wouldn’t this get around the limitation you mentioned at the top of the video?
Hey dawg, kind of random question unrelated to the video, I’m mastering a remix of a song which is a house reiteration, I’m using the Pro L2 which I’m a bit new to, im used to izotope, just wanted your thoughts on “oversampling” which over sampling setting would you recommend if any ?
0:29 so basically Preamps are Snake-oil? But in general, wouldn't you do a nice general Video about Preamps, I mean there is much to talk about and to learn. I got an eye on the Skulptur 500 several months ago and then I read a Review where it's stated it only works fine with condenser Mics and not Dynamic mics. Okay it got compared to that SPL 1200V superexpensivecleanneutral highdynamic nonclipping Rackmicpreamp. In my opinion the price of the Skulptur is fair.
Really, you’ve never used preamps in mixing and mastering?i regularly bump my line outs from DAW and by either using 20dB pad or reducing the line level, as long as your very conservative with levels then there’s not a lot of ‘colouration’, but if you want some colour just drive the input or turn up the gain, I use an analogue mixing desk and the option to switch between line and mic input is wonderful, why do you think this option is nearly always available on channel strip/preamp plugins, one of the oldest tricks in the book……and you’ve never heard about doing this? Next time you get tracks to mix that are all cold thin and sterile, just use the mic inputs on your desk…..

"videos" plural, no apostrophe saying "video is" or implying belonging to the video. 👍
And it didn't disappoint. Videos almost done and this was very fun to watch.

and now WOW with the "Shape" turned on, it´s a very interesting "loud/analog" sound
hold buttons for phantom power is a really clever idea, thats definitely gotta prevent accidental phantom power presses
Wow! This little kit sounds GREAT!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
2:43 sounds niiicee, I like this type of sound/change, sounds loud withouth destroying dynamics
Robert Babicz is using preamp in his mastering chain - Great River pre I believe and sounds great
Probably one of the best demos that you makes you want to buy the product.
Thanks to Phable for engaging the concept !
Yeah, I love that cool blue, too!
Haven't even watched this yet and I'm already hyped for this video

I have a 45db line pad to use mic ores for color on mixdown. That way you can use the input transformers etc: Dope video!

I bought one with the intention to get another for 2bus processing but never did manage to get a 2nd one. Mighty fine unit though!
Just turn the outgoing signal down in the box by 20-30 dB before hitting the preamp. That's the difference between mic and line level.
The first thing that i thought: "WoW your voice sounds now really nice!!"
What you could do is an re-amp setup for testing different pre-amps.
These are nice! And multifunctional. Nice one, thanks. What does "ashilliate" links mean? I know what a shill is, but...🤔

Elysia 😍😍😍 wow such quality ❤

Elysia doesn’t miss
I am a fan of Elysia. I have to check this module out. I could tell a major difference with it in and bypass.
i throw valhallavintage reverb on every master at 4s 100%
its my trademark
this video perfectly shows that you can use what you have!
Quite an interesting experiment - it reminds me of summing boxes for coloring. However, why use a Skulptor instead of Karacter?
Karacter in plugin form was one of my biggest purchasing mistakes, didn't work for me at least
@@peterheinen6110 yeah, pretty sure! Literally like any other brainworx tbh. But I mean hardware one, not vst.
I can’t decide, are Lewitt mics just bright, or are they shrill? Does a little high-end rolloff or shelving smooth it out?

The preamps add an extra dimension. More of an analog flavor . Nice!
This song is like hyper realistic Nintendo music
please do nectar 4 next!!

I like this tutorial 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Can you send me yours? I want to do some testing as well 🤣🤣🤣
uuuhhhh Shape 2 is really the opposite ans should be used for spefically individual tracks, that need that analog mid bump
big like from ISRAEL !!
"Ashiliate link"
lol
Lol, so much passive aggressive in the you tube producer community recently, this was a nice little 'slip of the tongue '. Well played.
ozone 11 review bro?
It’ll be a tutorial 🫣

Hey, the product is called „skulpter“ and not „skulptor“ 😄
Thanks -> fixed

👍🙂
What also is happening is the analog signal is bringing more separation so that the stereo image sounds wider
Hello, how are you? What is your height? I can't guess."
He's 42069 centimeters short
Mastering with line pre’s is not uncommon.
That’s incredible! Let’s connect?
