Focusrite // Liquid Channel Shootout at Snap! Studios
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2012
- The Focusrite Liquid Channel enables you to apply the characteristics of the most iconic and sought-after mic preamps and compressors in the history of music recording. It's been winning awards since we released it in 2003, and for the past two years running, it was voted 'Best Microphone Preamplifier' by readers of Sound On Sound magazine. But we're aware that some people still aren't aware of the power and potential of Liquid Channel, so we decided to put it through the ultimate test: a shootout and blind test; and film the process.
We enlisted the help of Guy Massey and Marco Pasquariello at Snap! Studios, London, and Liquid Channel did amazingly well. Check out this documentary of what went down on the day. For more information about the shootout and the blind test, head to the Focusrite website.

I love how after it's revealed that they chose the new tech over the old, that their final brainstorm is, to paraphrase: sure I'd use it in a crappier studio but I'll stick to the vintage gear (even though it was a blind test).
Still a wonderful preamp. The Liquid Channel was (and still is) ahead of the time. An outstanding sound, the Liquid Control...just wonderful. And - sadly - very underrated
Been using them for 12 years now and would still not swap them for anything on the planet.
I love liquid channel so much that after all the years with one I bought two more units recently!! Im gonna hook them up for mastering!!🥰
I still use my one unit all the time .
I’m a bit frustrated that focusrite stopped updating the software and digital control but as a purely hardware unit it’s still fantastic.
I’ve wanted to buy a second and use them for buss work.
How hard is it to link 2 units and is it possible to link them just using the hardware with no software ?
@@SoundScienceMediaWorks liquid channel is the love of my life my first and last hardware preamp! It was the saving point that I never went in the rabbit hole of different hardware preamps and compressors! So I belive alot money saved! As far as I have understood its kind of easy to hook them up and put one on "master" on the other the better term "follower" . You put tag id ! I dont think that software is needed!! I hope im not wrong!!
@@f.nf.n7689 have you tried putting a tube mic pre-before that “Liquid Channel Api” setting … uff 🔥🔥🔥
I've used 2 Liquid Channels and a Liquid 4 Pre in my studio for the last 6 years and would not swap them for anything on the planet! So very versatile. And it's not just about the pre's, they also emulate 40 different compressors.
U try to master ur project ever?
@@muzicalguru2552 I do a lot of mastering, but I don't use hardware.
@@PAPATVOnline what kind of cable you use to link the pair? RCA or SPDIF cable?
to be honest the vintage gear will make the customer see your studio as a pro studio its not about the sound quality alone but its about your presentation to your customer so they would put their money on your pocket because you got a super expensive gear, because some times to get a good mix its all about the ear of the engginer not about the tools they got the tools will help but the right skill is the most important
So, he chose the Focusrite Liquid every time, yet his endorsement was, at best, mild!?
Probably didn't want to accept he's potential spent a lot on gear which could have been replaced by a single box.
Awesome!!! i love the focusrite stuff!!!
@focusrite I understand that you no longer support this, but a lot of us would at least love for the digital portion of the liquid mix ( the controlling software) to be updated to work with the modern OSs.
Competitors are garnering a ton of praise for including plug-in control of hardware units but focusrite was ahead of that game over a decade ago with this.
Bettermaker, Wes audio , tegeler they are all doing this now.
Please think about those of us that have stayed loyal and at least make a way for us to be able to control out liquid channels via usb from the software again.
Thank you
Thanks for your interest! We would love to be able to do this but we have some external constraints that prevent us from being able to update our Liquid software. Apologies for the inconvenience.
So , lets go over what they actually said there , "well , the Focusrite sounded better , but , I`ll use the old gear because i spent a fecking fortune on it because I thought it would be better , ....... ."
So, after putting so much work in this AB testing and if this is a video made to sell the Focusrite Liquid Channel, why didn't you post the AB test for us to hear?
heyyy ! Voice test !
They have them on thier website
Why is there reverb in the monitor room, How you going to mix with that effecting you?
estaria bueno que le pusieran subtitulos a sus videos...
o seria mejor que los doblaran al español!
Porfa!
Can I explain how to connect it from the back Note that I have an intervice moto hd 896 possible picture or video showing the way to connect from the back and the second question Do you have to install the definition of a driver to work on the program of protols hd Virgin 10
Because there is a USB out of the back
Because I frankly bought it and was unable to connect it to the moto
Vintage gear is the most natural and saturated sound you will get. All the emulators out there are great but they just dont have the exact sound of effect on the track as the originals. Some of them are really good though
Too bad they didnt play the recordings of each in the video so we could make up our minds instead of taking these guys word for it..
It's so incredible..amazing How much per channel? I like to record stereo. and the guitar playing...sublime, incredible,,amazing talent. I remember a time when magic beans only cost a cow...but these beans are digital. so I guess a small herd is a bargain.
Where do these young guys get the money for all that gear? Someone please tell me.
+Michael L. Exactly what I thought, too.
Michael L. They are not the owners
rich kids.. mummy & daddy
Just work hard and save
ok sent me 2 ASAP
Focusrite bring back liquid technology
Thanks for your interest in that, Paul.
@@FocusriteTV I second that, and i'm wlling to bet there would be alot more interest, as my Liquid Mix still sounds better than all the plugins today, Acustica included. At the moment i am having to jump through hoops to keep using my Liquid Mix with Windows 10. I wonder where Focusrite could go if they incorporated FPGA chip emulation technology, that stuff brings us incredibly close to hardware. Antelope Audio uses it in their interfaces, but the plugins only sound as good as how much effort can be afforded by the company. FPGA tech is not the limit on how good they can sound.
@@bontempo1271 yes bring it back please
So the results are in, you chose the liquid channel each and every time.
Really?
So where would you see it being useful?
At home, but in a professional studio, I would use the vintage gear.
So in a business where making money is the motive, and sound quality is important, you would rather use the more expensive, rusting vintage gear that you didn't like as much????????
he had a joint in his ear lol..
Is that a joint by his ear? Lol
This test seems to be a bit "Paid for advertisement" to me. Focusrite has some of the best pre amps I've ever used in my life, so why do a video like this ? one that smells like bullshit.
Let me guess, the result is WOW, can't really hear the difference between original HW and Focusrite... Lol, capitalism...
