    This video beautifully illustrates two things. The Saffire 56 and mix control are pretty great! Got one yesterday actually. Crazy that it's 2022 and it still runs like a beast on my iMac. Just don't update your computer past a certain OS. The second thing is - The producer/engineer is far more handsome and talented than anyone in the band...and I bet he's still killing it. Haha, all in good fun! The people behind the scenes never get the credit they truly deserve! Cheers :)

    Great tutorial. Best real world use of mix control I've seen. Explained a LOT. 👍

    You made my day. I just bought (second hand) octopre mkII dynamic. Thanks to Your tutorial everything works perfectly. Thanks. I would love to see a specific step by step tutorial - how to make a separate mixes in Focusrite Saffire 56 (which I own too) for different musicians of the band. I am using Logix Pro X. I would like to see how and where to send signals and how to set up the Saffire mix control. Greetings from Warsaw/Poland. Thanks :)

    I would have used the two Saffire 56 inputs with the ISA emulation and since the preamps of the 56 are the same as the Octo I would not have used the latter especially since the phantom power supplies are not selectable at the unit...

    Thanks for the helpful video. So am I right that the pre-amps are only available when using the mic inputs on the first two channels? I am using a synth, so that means I have to change a cable from 2 jacks on bolth sides to 2 cables with a jack on one side that goes into my synth (waldorf blofeld in my case) and a XLR on the other side for the mic pre amp. Maybe a silly question, but why aren't those summoned after the input so you could use bolth mic and line for the input?

    Why do the inputs have to be up full to get enough signal with mics? It's the same with both my pro 24 and pro 40. Using phantom power. Using a mixture of different mics SE, Neumann, AKG, Rode.
    All need to be up either full or nearlly full to record acoustic guitar. Mics are only about about 4 inches away from guitar too.
    Once almost full, you hear a high pitched whine.

    is there a reason for using the clock on the octopre not the interface. Thanks

      Yes struck me as weird too. I'd like to know if it was a deliberate choice, seems odd to choose probably the cheapest unit in the rack as the master. Maybe they know enough to know it doesn't matter so long as everything's sync'd up?

    What about the firewire Saffire PRO 14,can it be used in the same way, in order to add some extra input channels ???

      Focusrite and Novation aren’t really into their customer’s satisfaction.

    Hello - Could help. I was unable to make the connection to use the external compressor in the Saffire 56. Out 3 of the Interface to Compressor - Out of the compressor to In3 of the Interface. Any specific settings in the Mix control? Can you tell?

    This is certainly NOT a beginners tutorial on MixControl. If one already has a good understanding of MixControl, this is a really good video to show how to use it when handling lots of separate units. But MixControl remains a mystery to most users - I think you needed to go through the basics of MixControl much more slowly, or have another video.

    hi how can i use this saffire mix control to add another soundcard and bypass the preamp and sound conversion to Audient and also add external compressor thru focusrite as my current audient does not have adat.

    Sorry for asking a stupid question, but won't sending a mono mix to a headphone result in the mix coming out of one side of the headphone only? Or did I miss something...

    • @marcuswilespage
      @marcuswilespage 8 років тому

      +bizz837463 full disclosure I didn't watch the whole video but if he uses the line outs in the back as monitor mixes by plugging headphones to them or something like that, it works because the jacks are line level 1/4" TRS, which is technically the same type of connector that headphones use. It can either be balanced mono or unbalanced stereo, which means the you'll get signal in both ears

    dumb question but can someone explain why did he sync the saffire 56 to adat 1?

    • @martinocando3072
      @martinocando3072 7 років тому +1

      Because the clock master is the octopre, which is connected to the liquid saffire via ADAT 1

    Very similar model of TC Electronic Studio 48 has additional and very useful Remote control (with talkback). Focusrite Saffire 56 will be much better with Remote. Unfortunately, TC Electronic is working 7-8 year. Shame.
