I don't know how anybody can listen to this podcast and not want to go to war.
I was in the Navy for one term, just got out last year. I felt drained for 4 years, feeling like I was in High School interacting with weak individuals while painting a ship- going on empty dull deployments 7 months at a time.
Yet I am back to civilian life, itching to live a life of adventure. To experience a feeling that you can never achieve through any other activity- but war. I'm 24 and sincerely feel like I will regret my whole life if I don't experience a great rush during my existence by the time i'm 50 years of age. I feel deeply bad and sorry for all the souls who are listeners of Jocko podcast that will never see war.
I don't know what's wrong with me, maybe some screws are losening in my head as I get older, but I want to build & leave a legacy. I want to be remembered when I die.
I want a life of adventure, and battles.

Go do MMA, honestly. That will show you what combat is actually about. After you have been knocked the F#$% out for the first time, and that will happen, it will give you a 0.5% taste of what real war is about. Then you can have a look at you perspective on that lust for adventure and say I want this but 1000x more. If that is true then you do want more. Most don't. Most get up off the mat and say, Ok, that was enough. If you don't do this, then you don;t want a life of battles, you want a life of glory and being appreciated for it. Those two desires have NOTHING to do with each other. It just looks like they do.
I've listened to every podcast and have no desire to see war. There's nothing wrong with you other than being a 24 year old with minimal life experience, not much of a solid identity, and you've never been forced to face your own mortality. My guess, 2 years from now you'll look back on that comment you wrote on this podcast and be like "Wow, what was I thinking?"
When you have to confront your own mortality, you're not going to be very keen on war. Ever have a doctor tell you that you have cancer? Ever badly wreck a motorcycle? Went skydiving and have the primary parachute fail?
I've made hundreds of friends in the military from our mutual hobby\obsession of sport bikes and track days. I've found a lot have turned to it because it's the closest thing u can get to the rush of combat without dodging bullets......unless you live in Detroit. look into it, no experience? get aa used 300cc and after 6 months on the road when using the clutch and maneuvering becomes second nature spend a cpl years on a 600, it's enough power to have fun and more forgiving than a liter bike, 750cc+ up they are so violently powerful that one mistake u can get hurt fast and bad if you survive.

Echo is trying hard to connect to what is going on and since he wasn't in the military he gets brainwashed hard at this point I think. He once said he makes movies, I didn't like range 15 so maybe echo could step up and make the greates military movie of all time with his knowledge and Jockos expertise.

I'm always really glad when Jocko goes over stories from the First World War - the Second has been done so many times that it's virtually lost all meaning. We started learning about WWII in the first or second grade where I come from, but virtually never did our schools go into the depth of WWI. --- If WWI is something you're interested in, I highly recommend checking out Dan Carlin's Blueprints For Armageddon - it's the greatest First World War historical narrative you've ever heard.
If any story about any war is meaningless to you then it is you that has stopped listening, not the way it is told.
World War Two is the largest scale war humanity has ever seen, people were being put in death camps and literally the fate of the world rested on the shoulders of those men who stormed the beaches and fought that war...it always should be meaningful and appreciated what that generation did, because there has never been a war on that scale...that being said... Yea ww1 is way overlooked and is really cool to learn about
I agree entirely that the Second World War was the most significant war in recorded history; I'm just saying that in America it's been represented so much that most people have become desensitized to it. It's not only a subject of history now, it's a subject of fiction, fantasy, and even lies. It's been the basis for countless movies, books, songs, comic books, you name it.
WWII was absolutely important, but it's just been a bit overdone by too many sources trying to make money off of it.
For a different take on the Second World War try reading the few honest stories written by German soldiers. Hans Schmidt wrote an amazing book of his time in the Liebstandarte SS, it's called *SS Panzergrenadier*. Seeing things from the opposition's side is an interesting, fresh take on things.
+Dane Rusticus thanks for the recommendation, that's sounds very interesting ..there's one video on UA-cam of some old German veterans walking through a WW2 museum and they're talking about the war and brag how much they took over everyone haha it was so strange to me. they still felt justified in what their country did. But anyway, I see your point about WW2 being overdone in the entertainment industry and such. I personally can never get enough of that stuff. I am always in awe of what the free people of the world have accomplished, especially in that war. But damn what's going on in politics these days disrespects everything Americans of past generations fought for. I believe in America, always will til the day I die. I hope we can get back to saving the world again and being a force of good that people can trust.
@@DevilFrog61 the men who stormed the beaches were brave yes and did alot but your forgetting that many people were fighting in ww2 years before the americans joined near the end.
I respect the military, I thought at one point I wanted to join. I disagree with Jocko when he said "I'm not sure 14 and 15 year olds today would be willing to get their trench-on".. I think you'd be surprised by how many kids even today have dreams and aspirations to serve. That dream is still alive. Unfortunately it's the 99% of their peers who sit in air conditioned rooms on their ipads and think woe is me with no discipline or goals who make the ENTIRE generation look bad. Not every one is like that, and that dream and love for our country in still alive and well.
In a speech Arnold Schwarzenegger gave at a college graduation he spoke about sleep. He said to those that need more than six hours of sleep "Sleep faster, I would recommend".

Fuck that commie bastard, he sold out so hard to get into hollywood and just like most people in hollywood there's very little left to respect. Please have Dr. Richard S. Faulkner on. He is a professor of military history at the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth. He did his Ph.D on WW1. He wrote a book about America's involvement in WW1. 2 actually. He is an outstanding lecturer (one of my personal faves), as well as charismatic and sometimes even funny if you can believe it. He also is a Lieutenant Colonel in US tank corp and fought in desert storm. PLEASE have him on that would be outstanding.

jocko willink, I had a friend who looked quite german, probly was in his blood. ever since elementary school he knew world war 1 &2 dates and information, about stuff related, and on recess and lunch all the way up until about high school, he would want to be a brave trench warfare soldier, before I knew it he had become an army Ranger, and lost his life to an IED. from those fuckin worthless devil spawn overseas. let us never forget, for he had the bravery of those young teenagers you spoke of in this podcast. he may not have been the biggest baddest but he had what most ppl lack these days, the fuckin heart, bravery and the selflessness to shield the helpless with his own mortal body. R.I.P. Cody Patterson.. and thank you.

Jocko, did you ever go to the FOB at Iskandariyah? It was a large power plant that gives power to Baghdad. I was there in 2003-2004.
I could really get into a solid discussion about Wrestling vs Judo, but suffice to say I favor wrestling for no other reason other than I can do both leg attacks (Double, Single, Hi C...), Body/Leg Attacks (Ankle Picks, Knees Taps, foot Sweeps and Trips....) and Throws (Hip Toss, Head & Arm, Arm Spin, Body Lock, Lift & Dump.....) and do not need a Gi to do all of these. But, I did and do Judo, and Wrestling Takedowns with a Gi being a 4th Deg Black Belt under Prof Pedro Sauer and we blend wrestling and Judo with Takedowns, and our pressure game and pace comes from wrestling....I may have taught a guard jump...maybe, I can't remember, maybe not...No I didn't...Ok I talked about a jumping Guard once...maybe.
