    43:38 PURE GOLD. I return to this often.
    "So you know what you do? You line them up and freaking CRUSH THEM, that's what you do. That's what you do. You line up these stupid, meaningless things; and you CRUSH THEM. And you use them as an exercise in discipline. They become an exercise in discipline."

    This was such a refreshing podcast. I love Jocko but Jody represented the "every man" in his honesty, vulnerability and struggle. When he said, "I'm going to find THAT GUY AGAIN" referring to a former self that was capable of great discipline, I thought to myself, "yes, I can find him too," meaning a previous version of myself. Great stuff.

      hes obviously going to have a way different perspective than jocko, jocko was never injured in combat, jody lost both of his legs could you imagine how that would affect an alpha male who only wants to soldier ob

    Jocko has the absolute correct mode of thinking in that what's most important is for others to build off of what you've built. It's not important to be the best forever - if someone is the best forever that means there's been no further progress or upward development. In the words of Friedrich Nietzsche: *"A student repays his teachers poorly if he remains always only a student."*

    17:26 -- Another crucial point: your subconscious is always running analysis on you and it's gets a great deal of feedback from the things you are consciously doing, such as the manner in which you speak. Exercising voice control will give the feedback to the subconscious that you are alright. Hearing your own nervous, scared, panicked, or rattled voice will only reinforce to your subconscious that something is wrong.

      I would argue that an critical personal value to establish is that you cannot eliminate the effects of fear completely. Trembling, troubling speaking etc. are all very common under stress. I think that in most of the World, there is a dysfunctional belief that people SHOULD never feel/act that way. And I think that's completely wrong. People should anticipate the effects of fear on them.. and its just part of living and dealing with situations. Resist feeling ashamed and just let things hang out there. Accept and embrace how you react emotionally in intense situations and just let it go. Resist caring about what people think about you and just endure your fear while pursuing the course of action in a given situation which you know/feel to be the correct route.

    Great podcast! Jocko, maybe try to break each podcast into a series of 10-15 minutes podcasts, each one on 1-3 topics! Then release 4 podcasts per week. Your "Good!" one is so short and impactful, that I can listen again anytime I want, without needing to scan through 60-120 min podcasts. short and strong is more impactful.
    Alternatively, on top of these long podcasts, you can issue 1 short per month, like "Good", on special topics, like "under stress"...
    Amazing work! Keep it up!

    1:05:00. Not actually related but yet maybe so. When I was in high school, I competed in gymnastics. Our coach was a bad ass. At the end of the warm-up period before each meet, our coach had the entire team (only 6 of us) do a double back flip dismount ( a trick rarely done at that level of competition) off the high bar. We would hear routinely how intimidating it was from the other team 😳. Coaches from the other team would practically concede to meet.

    Watching this in 2021, have watched many other podcasts from Jocko and it's like a nightly thing at the moment. In other podcasts recently I have heard him say he does not think it is bad enough that he should run in politics. I beg to differ Jocko, I believe you are just what we need in politics right now and I honestly wish you would run. Please build on this idea, we do not need the bullshit going on in the government, we need people to do something like you. Edit: Biden is putting us into a forever war with delaying a pull out of Afghanistan in a peace deal Trump negotiated, more of us will die for oil and drug $......

    • @rationalmystic5
      @rationalmystic5 8 років тому +1

      maybe.......i noticed that in the middle of the podcast when jocko thanks those marines that clear the IED's he says thanks only from jocko and jody ...he didnt involve echo .....i think jocko should have involved echo in that gratitude to the soldiers. it could be a lapse and not deliberate but it didnt go down well in the public domain of this podcast. a few of my friends also noticed that .
      either way all these guys are just super humans . no other way to put it.

    • @MarkusLaumann
      @MarkusLaumann 8 років тому +1

      jaguarfocus Echo wasn't one of the guys traveling those roads filled with IEDs, which was the context of that statement. It wasn't a slight in my mind and I'm not going to publicly nitpick Jocko over how he thanked the EOD personnel that literally saved their lives. If it means that much to you go to Twitter and publicly thank the EOD guys yourself. If you do it positively instead of criticising a veteran on his inclusiveness I think you'll get a better response.

    • @rationalmystic5
      @rationalmystic5 8 років тому +1

      that was not what i was saying. i just thought echo was not included in this podcast as much as the others where jocko has had other guests. my opinion could be different from yours but thats alright. having different opinions is what exercising our freedom is all about . this is what all the soldiers have fought for since the dawn of time.
      plus in my comment i have not disparaged any service personnel . i have expressed gratitude .
      i stand by my previous statement .

    I don’t think referring to yourself as another person (your name 3.0) is a good thing, especially if your trying to “find” that person. You’ve got to accept where you’re at now and develop YOURSELF. One way you can develop yourself is with Alpha-Brain……..
