Update: It seems that the Dynamics are not rendering as shown in the editor. To avoid this, assign the cloner object to a matrix object. Now remove the cloner from the tracer and insert the matrix object instead. Also make sure that the matrix object is above the cloner in the object hierarchy. That fixed it for me.
In my case I have also done the following actions: -changed the distribution of the matrix into AXIS; -shifted the rigid body tag from the sfere inside the cloner to the cloner himself; This works for me, hope it will useful for you.

Just be careful to not do the same mistake as me, since there are two "Distribution" in Matrix, one showing the cloner's one and one showing the Matrix's one, be careful to only change "Distribution" to "Axis" for Matrix, while keeping "Vertex" for Cloner.😅

Thank you :) all the rigid and collider bodys are on default values. I didn't change something there. 1. Make sure your gravity is disabled. Press Strg + D to open the project settings. Then go to the dynamics tab and decrease the gravity value to: 0 cm. 2. Leftklick on the sphere inside the cloner object and go to simulation tags > rigid body. (don't change any values here). 3. Leftklick on the sphere or the object you want to colide with the swarm, go to simulation tags > collider body (not rigidbody) (don't change any values here).

Great tutorial, thank you. Turning off gravity in the project settings (for Simulation and Bullet) to stop the rigid body falling didn't work for me, I'm using R26. Any ideas?
instead of using a sphere i used a cylinder with a regualr grid amount. Make it rotate with the Time Effector and attach it to your text spline with the Spline Wrap (as its shown in the tutorial). I recomend to draw the letters with spline tools. For the morphing from a sphere shaped swarm to the Text shaped swarm i used the Matrix object. Good question! i'm not familiar with blender but I think there should be a way to achieve something similar. Probably with a different approach. On your place I would ask in a Facebook Blender group. I'm sure you will get some useful hints by the community. I would also be very interested in what comes out of it :).

@@johnhansen3129 seems that it works also with baking the dynamics. Still, some fish seem to go crazy and go into convulsions. lol. But, trying to figure it out... how to make sure they are always going somewhere or have the space to 'swim' around the sphere then they don't act crazy.
