I got a rescue chihuahua from a no kill shelter. He was there for almost two years. As I was looking, the attendant opened his cage. He jumped on me and refused to let go. Fast forward nine years I still have him and love him unconditionally. He of course respiprocates this same unconditional love back.
Wow I just adopted two chihuahuas for the first time ever. I couldn’t leave them behind they were from a house where they were hoarding 36 dogs so I took 2 home and I am still trying to get to know them hopefully they will be happy living in their new home.
I have 3 Chihuahuas and they are so well mannered and obedient, well socialised and great companions... They are so Intelligent They go everywhere with us. Can't think of life without them.
It is a blessing to have those 3 together at one time. You will never have a better time in your life...I was there, Please never take it for granted and do lots of Pictures and videos
I've had a couple of mixed breed Chi's. A CHUGGLE Pug and Chi . Two CHIENNIES. And a smooth coat Chi and my current pup, a long haired Chihuahua. Love the breed.
I travel so much for work and for years now, my dear little Otis usually goes with me - all over the world. I cannot believe how adaptable and well-mannered he is. As long as I am nearby, he loves cars, and trains, and planes, and boats, new situations and people. He is such a sweet and fun-loving presence. He can bark, but rarely does. And he loves hotels as much as I do! We moved to a new place in NYC recently. And he loves it because I think he believes we live in a hotel. :) He is just the best
My litttle one can usually be found sleeping on my lap, or if I'm not sitting down, she's usually a few inches behind me, where ever I am in the house. She adores my Hubby and my daughter, too, and she'll become the best friend of anyone who gives her a fuss. She is just perfect.
I’ve had 3. One short haired boy as a child and teenager who passed due to being hit by a car. Then 5 years later as I was living with my boyfriend and he bought me a short hair boy for my 21st. He passed from age related diseases as he was inbred at 13 and it was sudden so we were devastated. A few days ago we got a female long haired chihuahua puppy and she’s 3 months old. She is such a sweetheart and she’s learning quickly. I’m absolutely obsessed with chihuahuas and they are my heart animal. I’m currently recovering from a car accident and she’s healing my heart.
I’ve realised they are my heart animal too. I had two and said I’d never have another after my first one passed. Then I lost Penny a week ago at 14 and am getting a pup in three weeks. Penny will never be replaced but like you said, this wee one will help me heal. I also have a Japanese Chin who I love dearly, but Chihuahuas are in a league of their own and I just need them in my life. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I was blessed with a deerhead Chihuahua in 2021 and have been best friends ever since ... I never thought I would love a dog like I love my doggie!!!!!❤🐕❤️🔥
I've spent nearly 50 years with all sorts of dogs. Had a Deerhead chih for 9 years. They're one of the BEST breeds! Just great lmtiny dogs and their intelligence is insane! Brilliant dogs. They retain pretty much no genetic relation to the original Chihs, but they're still great dogs.
They are also specifically the breed trained as hearing dogs for deaf or hard of hearing. They have very good hearing, and can tell if anyone approaching your house is a friend or acting suspicious (that's when they alert thier owner with alert behaviors, not just tail wagging).
I've had cavaliers great dogs and a shi tsu that I loved to bits lost him aged 14 two weeks after that a guy at work said he had a litter of chi,s did some research they didn't have a good press my wife and I decided to go ahead and buy one he's a lovely wee guy so loving 6 months old now fully house trained loves walks and meeting other dogs a great wee dog and very happy I've got him
Y’all should know there’s not such a thing as a 3-6 lbs chihuahuas… the breeders do that in purpose for money … but really a healthy chihuahua is about 6-8 lbs. I have three Chis and all of them are so healthy and very happy dogs . They not micro dogs (tea cups those tea cups are unhealthy dogs and is the term the breeders use to get more money out of you in other words to rip you off and your dog will die young ) they’re not normal regular Chihuahuas
I always thought people were silly to be so attached to their dogs. My friend got a Longhaired Chihuahua and it was the sweetest little dog. So cute and I grew to love that little dog. When she passed it broke my heart. She went everywhere with us. She was small enough to fit in my friends handbag. We took her to movies all the time and she would never make a sound. My friend would take her out of her handbag once they dimmed the lights in the theater and the little dog would just lay in her lap.
It’s so sad that people ruin their reputation by treating them like human babies and dress them up with clothes when not needed. I think they can be amazing dog if you raise them well and give what they need.
@@jackieclifton7573 My neighbors have a Chihuahua. He is so sweet and well raised. Also has a jacket for when he is cold but for now he doesn’t need it that often. I have to watch him a lot and he is amazing ❤️
@@rowansebastiangray7242 same with my French Bulldog he is spoiled but still treat him like a dog and he is well trained. I watch my neighbors Chihuahua from time to time and they treat him like a dog and he listens well to them. And is so sweet.
I got a rescue chihuahua about 3 years ago. His previous owners kept him in a dog carrier most of the time and fed him adult sized dog food. I got to obtain him because he was the only survivor in a house fire. Today I spoil him like he was my child. He sleeps in the bed with me. I am not sure how old he is. He does have some bad habits like not wanting to walk anywhere. He wants me to carry him everywhere. I feed him pretty healthy but he is gaining weight due to never exercising. He is not interested in toys or playing. I don’t think he knows how.
I have a black, tan and white long haired Chihuahua who weighs 15 pounds and is nearly twice as tall as Betty on from Will Trent TV series. Combing her hair never makes it neater looking. Guess that's the rough coat as it is always messy looking.
My advice for Chihuahua and other small breed dog owners is to litter train your dog, in which is much easier and faster to do. As you don't have to worry about whether it is snowing, raining, too hot, or too cold outside, and about dedicating the time to let them out. You won't have to worry about leaving your dog at home alone for an extended period of time. Lastly, because my Chihuahua never leaves my home, I don't use poisonous flea and tick solutions or heart work pills. All of which are harmful for your dog. I also don't have to worry about my tiny Chihuahua being attacked by a bigger dog outside either.
I'm thinking about getting a Chihuahua shortly and they suggest just using those pee pads that you can buy inexpensively at Dollar stores. They don't wet through and don't smell. I did a litter box with my cat of course and hated that whole ordeal. I'd be curious to know what other people feel about simply using a pee pad and nothing else.
@@uzibah4889 For my cat I used to get some of those horse/animal wood pellets at a tractor & farmyard store. That probably would work fine with your Chihuahua or small dog.
It depends on the individual chihuahua and factors in the home. Chihuahuas are very energetic with their size so I recommend a long walk ever day (1 to 3 miles depending on the individual chihuahua). If they don’t get that energy out it’ll come out as excessive barking, negative behaviors, etc. Same with any breed. A combination of exercise and working with your dog’s individual temperament, early socialization and respecting your dog’s boundaries and working through them if necessary will have the best success.
I have a little one he's 5 pounds and 6oz his mother is short hair and his daddy is a long hair and he looks like he has a Mohawk running down from his forehead down to the middle of his back
You have to teach them their manners. Cesar Millan worked with one that thought of his female owner as his "girlfriend". He had to teach the dog that she and her son were the bosses in the family. Very good dogs usually.
I just got a chihuahua yesterday and it keeps doing it’s business on the carpet and even if we took it outside, it still doesn’t wanna pee or poop. They are so hard to train that when I give them food in the morning, most of the time the plate is left empty and i’m thinking about returning the dog back to the adoption center.

Is it true that they are difficult and sometimes impossible to house train?
They are like any other dog, they have to be trained to go outside.
