- This video tutorial covers the basics of beach wave water simulation with Phoenix FD 3.0 for 3ds Max. It will show you how to use the newly added FLIP solver, the Wave Force - used to create the actual waves, and finally it will show you how to set up a shader using the Wet Map.

Superb tutorial. Just started learning Phoenix FD today and this was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
thanks ! Really need this type of tutorial ! lack of tutorial for phoenix fd.
FINALLY!!! Thank you guys! This is the best Christmas gift :-)
this lady has very nice voice.....
ASMR phoenix FD! great tut though :P
Anyone know how to make the waves smaller in height and still splash properly? Wave height adjustments does not work to get smaller scale. Lowering Wave force strength also dont work well. Setting the simulator scale down also has weird results.
Amazing
What computer configuration can do Phoenix FD for 3dsmax
very helpful!
Nice simulation! Although for the big scenes - I am afraid the scene needs to be scaled down
This tutorial need to be updated
i love you chaos group don't change, when's this effet in real time ?
When you borrow a computer from NASA?
I tried to follow the same Tutorial in Maya: In Maya the Viewport previews look much worse. And the official Maya example scene isn't producing any foam at all and the water is looking somehow too "thick". Would be great if Maya would get the same attention. Thanks
Hey, the example scene seems to be working correctly in here with the latest Phoenix. If you face any issues send an email to support@chaosgroup.com and we'll help :)
The foam shows up at frame 70-80 so probably that's why you thought there is no foam.
Is Phoenix and all its maps and features supported in RT ?
Not all the maps are there for RT yet, but hopefully soon :)
please more tutorial for fd 3 for max beer simulation and chocolate and so on +++
what about particles underneath beach that was created initially? optimise that first...other than that great video :)
I don't know if making the ground mesh solid will help. It seems that you can force PFD not to create particles inside a mesh. But I'm not at my computer to test right now.
Yup, the ground mesh should better be closed.
If the mesh is Solid in its Phoenix props, particles won't enter it. Otherwise, particles and fire/smoke can pass through meshes. However, it's always better to use closed meshes, instead of curved or displaced planes, because Phoenix doesn't always work well with open geometry :)
i didn't see a phoenix fd map in compact material table. i need a help pls
Send an email to support@chaosgroup.com and they will help you out.
How can I make to have less waves, i want One wave to 5 seconds.. But o dont know How to get it
You can change the Rate of Change of the Ocean texture used for the Wave force. You can find more here - docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/Ocean+Texture+%7C+PhoenixFDOceanTex
my ocean pure white during render ..could you help me ?
I had the same problem. Did you ever work it out?
Scene file available for download here: docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX3MAX/Example+Scenes
Thank you
What was your unit set up?
Hey, you can get an example scene here - docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/Example+Scenes#ExampleScenes-Beachwaves
bit of a necropost here but does anyone know how the rendered preview was done when the oceanTex was being seen ua-cam.com/video/6s_gozLTnZU/v-deo.html I assume it was a top down render after the sim? That isn't overly helpful but if there was a way to see the ocean tex and all the settings as a preview on the mesh BEFORE running a lengthy sim, that would be amazing.
Yes, it was a top down render that was overlaid over the video. Checkout the Pure Ocean mode - this should give you a better idea of the Ocean Tex settings without having to simulate - ua-cam.com/video/DRI2fn8lVjs/v-deo.html
Automatic vray plane add delete but render we'll show vray plane
can't render the foam i vray🥺
Can you give us the scene file ?
You can get an example scene here - docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/Example+Scenes#ExampleScenes-Beachwaves
it's reaaaly slow. I dont get it .. you guys change parameters in real time almost and for me it takes about 1 hour to simulate 4 seconds ??
Yea... this tutorial didn't work.. you just get a bland blue solid water when you render (V-ray as renderer)
Hey, if the material setup is what you are missing, you can grab the ready scene file from here: docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX3MAX/Example+Scenes#ExampleScenes-Beachwaves
The water in my render looks nothing like yours...just a bland blue mesh looking thing.
What renderer engine are you using?
DeformedMonkeys I have both Vray and Octane....that day I was using Vray.
Huh. Ran into the same issue on my vray too. However when I use the ocean preset all the way to the right on the top bar, it does water just fine. Not sure what we did differently.
DeformedMonkeys Lol, me too, it's a mystery to me too...😄
Yea... I had the same problem. Was using V-ray
very difficult to understand
No it's not, pay attention bruh.
An error occured and the application will now close.
That's what I love about Max. I can work for a month with ZBRush and 3D-Coat and I barely ever have a crash. Then I try something as funny as ChasGroup plugin in Max. And it's freezing and crashing again and again and again. 3DS Max is junk. Not even worth the effort.
Then do your fluid simulations in Zbrush?
