Elden Ring Player Tries Monster Hunter World

- Yep, Return to New World campaign also got me. In this video I want to review Monster Hunter World from a perspective of a newcomer, since there're a lot of reviews from veteran players who (due to thousands of hours spent in the game) might miss some hardships new players may face (I am a soulsborne fan, I know what I'm talking about).
So, if you're still hesitant about whether you should give Monster Hunter World a chance or not - this video is for you!

If you hit a monster on the head with slinger thorns, hitting those slinger thorns contributes as KO dmg. So even with a slashing weapon you can KO a monster with it.
I don’t know if you know this but target different body parts of monsters and get the 🔴🟫⚪️ extracts for maximum effect (white boost speed, brown I fogor 💀, and red changes your combos.) and you can power buggy boi up with rocks or whatever slinger ammo you have. 😃👍🏾
Not all weapons are the same and feel free to switch up the weapons for different matchups.
Learn how to buff properly.
Perfect Draw skill adds KO damage to unsheath attacks that means for example LS from the sheath he has like 3-4 attacks that contributes to KO. Otherwise your LS will not KO.
KO is when you see BIRDS / stun above the monsters head.
Do not confuse KO with Toppling or wallbang.
Toppling is when you did a certain amount of damage especially to the legs.
And wallbang is when you use the clutch claw.
Do not use your armor spheres every single armor will be replaced once you reach iceborne because they give so much DEFENSE.
Its not shameful to run Health Boost 3 + Divine Blessing to get better defense and increase your survival.
And the most important part that i learned after so many hours is that : DONT USE META SETS or even try to get the same set.
Play casually whats the point of having meta sets if you get carted no MORE DPS if you carted.
@@justjordan6147 When you have all 3 insect buffs running flinch free will actually give you Earplugs, Windproof and Tremor Resistance for as long as triple buff is active. These levels stack with the skills on the armor; e.g. having Flinch Free lv3, Earplugs lv2 and Windproof lv3 will grant Earplugs lv5, Windproof lv5 and Tremor Resistance lv5 when you have all three extracts. Orange - Defense Red - Attack - White speed and Green - heal
Ah average mh player trying to carve rathalos tail while it's still near
Yessir
That leaping dodge actually triggers anytime you're sprinting away from the monsters and makes you invincible for a LONG time. It's really useful for dodging big attacks
There is a skill which gives you that dodge by also running towards it its called Leap of Faith. ( I wonder if this is a reference to Assassin's Creed since it had a Collab before )
@@gaby232323The armor skill has been around for a bit longer than the collab, so probably not.

Another point also on the fact that it can be silly. Run till you have no more stamina left down a slope. There you will truely see the silly details these developers will go to and I love them for it.
ok now I need to see that lol
you can even do it infinitely but I just forget how to trigger it
Game is so good I've been hunting Rathalos for a decade across different installments and it is giving me the same fun I've had when I faced him for the first time as a kid.
based
You know a monster hunter game has begun when it's time to face a Rathalos
Do you miss his 70% movement speed increase in world?
Considering FromSoft has stated that DS was inspired by Monster Hunter, there is a good chance the tail cuts of DS were inspired by Monster Hunter!
And then they made vahl hazak as "Revanche"(head Canon)
In monster hunter cut tails isnt just a fun/cool feature, its in fact vital for hunt
Many monsters have some specific gimmic with some part of they body, and when you break that part, this gimmic will have less effect, cut rath tail prevent poison, break kadashi tail block eletric attack, break rath wing prevent aerial attacks, break diablos horn reduce they attack damage, break radobaan tail make him roll slow (so you can attack and make him fall)
Even if you cut off Rathian's tail, she can still inflict poison.
@@andrejhofer2007 it deppends what monster hunter you talking, but yeah, he have less area at least
Its cause its not the tail thats poisonus its her claws

Old hunter...
The problem with grinding is you want to get to the goal to get that dopamine, but in MH, the grinding (hunt) is the dopamine.
And you also get faster with each kill
Then getting serotonin for pulling out a very rare item for your last armor piece.
Monster Hunter. Choppin tails since 2005
Yeah, I do feel like DS was inspired by MH with this one
@@notawheel funnily enough DS studio actually made a MH spin off game before souls so it's pretty reasonable to assume that there was some level of inspiration taken from MH
2004 actually lol
@overland_brew8197 you are correct. Earlier then I thought. I didn't start till mid 2005 though.
@@Mercman1010 yeah fair
I only know it's 2004 cause I started with the very first game like a week after it came out
MHW is my comfort game. just chilling and hunting monsters whenever I get the time. helping in SOS and joining others' guiding lands. sometimes I also join lobbies from twitch streamers. it's still a lot of fun even after 6 years. looking forward to MH Wilds.
Same here! It’s kinda funny that such an action-packed game becomes so comforting.
Back in high school I used to Hella play it with friends and even without friends I loved it a lot and it's definitely one of my comfort games. A lot of my old friends stopped playing cuz they just moved on to other games or just upgraded to PC and I got stuck on ps4. I stopped playing for a solid 2 years. Then some new people joined my work roster and I found out they played monster hunter so I ended returning the game and loving it all over again for the past year 😂
it was for me. but then fatalis hit my mental hard
Mr 999 and still have fun with this game that i never leave for a too long time. Still learning.. i came back to the game last week and learn a weapon that i never used the hunting horn! I like to help players in guidind lands or killing alatreon and fatalis. My favorite game 4 sure
I hope MH wilds brings the same enjoyment MH world brought us. Maybe a more wild world will do the trick
I'm on my way to get the iceborne platinum trophy (i already have the base game one) and despite it can be tedious (expecially crown hunting and endemic life hunting) for me it never gets boring; other quest like the treasure hunting one and the photography one made me discover little details and interactions that reflects the effort put in by developers.
And even if you just started the game, be aware that at some point you will need to have that trophy.
Finally, rookie hunter i wish you have a great time in Monster Hunter (see ya in Wilds) and happy hunting!
I was expexting a bit more negative review, a few firends fans of DS never got into MH precisley for the grind, and the timers on hunts, cuz they spent more time rolong arround than attacking 😅 really glad that you enjoyed the game, most veterans love to see a new hunters and aid them as they can, so welcome to MH man, and we will see you on MH Wilds ;)
I do still roll a lot if I'm not playing with insect glaive...
9:30 you said eating is time consuming so i'm not sure if you already know but you can skip the eating animation so it only take 5 second or your time now. you can also speed up all the quest board animation by pressing R1 or RB.
Do the ancient tree optional quests! Once you unlock everything, keep it fertilized and you never need to go on expeditions to farm consumable items anymore.
The one thing i dislike about mhw base game is the guardian armour and how its the default option.
If you want to get into this series with mhw, do NOT make my same mistake and use the guardian armour. It makes you pretty much impossible to kill and gets rid of any challenge the base game has.
The guardian armour is intended for people who want to rush through to the DLC content, but if you want to enjoy the game to its fullest, dont use the guardian armour
Trying to dodge roll and abuse i-frames to dodge every single attacks is the biggest mistake I did in Monster Hunter.
Agree as a new player. Tbh from what i have seen the s are literally the same as mid roll in dark souls 3 so i guess it's just the hitboxes that linger for longer and are generally bigger
Dodges are basically just a repositioning tool in MH, had to readjust after being used in the ultra lenient dodge rolls Elden Ring has when I came back to MH too.
@@kixakii436they don't "linger" the i-frames are less than that of fromsoft games, you can increase it but it is mostly for repositioning.
@@Chrisdish still rolling is never gonna be the same in monsterhunter as dark souls, i have played with evade window 3 and hammer a good couple of times. While it definitely makes it piss easy to dodge roars or smaller attacks the game is just not built around that and many monsters have hitboxes as big as their body that will get you even if you time your roll. So yeah it's still pretty much just for positioning
loved the vid
Useful tip : the different animation you get dodging away from the monster while running is called a "superman jump" and has the most invicibility frames in the game. use it to dodge big attacks from nergigante for example ! also, dont mash buttons to get up. staying down allows you to be invicible and dodge combos.
Yup, agreed.
I find that most Iceborne monsters time attacks to catch someone who panics.
You can catch small animals/bugs with the capture net and place them in your room which is an irrelevant but awesome addition to the game
It's always interesting to see souls fans experience monster hunter. I was 12 when I became a monster hunter fan and found souls games later in life.
I played bloodbourne after monster hunter and armored core
EVERY Soulsborne fans SHOULD try Monster Hunter, as all MH fans should do the same with SoulsBorne, that's what I did, and now MH and Soulsbornes are my favourite games
the combat just feels really similar, and no other games gave me this impression
Surprised to hear this take. MH has my favorite real time combat in all of gaming, but despite being a big From fan since before the Souls games even existed, the SoulsBorne games have, in my opinion, some of the worst combat I've ever had the displeasure of playing.
@@Sin_Alder Well I'm surprised to hear *your* take. Sure, the combat in souls games is not as complex as in MH, but you can't tell me it's more jank than any pre-World title, and even World and Rise have bs hitboxes on most monsters.
Why monster hunter feels like a gift from god cause I swear god told capcom to cook and they didn’t just cook… THEY BOUGHT OUT THE WHOLE FESTIVAL 😭☝🏾

Everyone likes monster hunter. The only people who don't haven't played it enough to realize they do.
So happy you like World, though. It's my favorite game ever! Currently, I'm guiding my friends through the story to both show them why I like the game so much, and to relive the experience vicariously through them. This game really brings people together, too. It's magical.
Yeah, I think playing with friends who are more experienced really helps in forming a positive experience! Hope they enjoy it
Is 200+ hours, full campaign + side quest clear with all base game monsters not enough, btw?
Lmao
@@thosebloodybadgers8499 iceborne is so good, the base game just isn’t enough knowing that’s a thing. oh man it’s so amazing!
@@thosebloodybadgers8499 how do you even rack up over 200 hours in base game alone? my original 2018 ps4 save had all mantles, all lynians befriended, all optionals complete, full drachen armor, etc and i was barely scratching 110.
@@fatusopp4739 pissing around and being bad, I suppose.
Ever played CRPGs? Stuff like Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous, Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin? Typically also takes me 200 or so hours per playthrough despite most statistics showing half that at the worst.
Except I enjoy CRPGs greatly. Monster Hunter - not so much. Not so much at all.
Also, one of the best things that got me hooked up in this game is that every hunt is unpredictable
I’m new to mhw playing on my first play through. I’m about 80ish hours in and I’m loving it!!
It's not boring to grind but fear to fight the monster is a thing. Hmmm Alatreon and Fatelis....Co-op is best there.
Yeah, I remember when Bazelgeuse appeared for the first time, my friend was like 'are you sure you want to try to kill it?'...
After 2 faints he asked me that question again, since we had a few of his pieces collected and could just complete the mission and take what we managed to get.
Well, I believed in myself too much and we lost everything
you would feel that you really beat the game by soloing those two without wearing their armor or weapon. the best feeling ever.
@@josefernandez4423 Yea I did that. Didn't have fun doing it tho. Fatalis with fatalis gear is much more fun than without

Well done! About to hit 6300 here 😂
With almost 800hrs in the game, im always so happy and proud seeing new players enjoy the hunts! Hope to see ya all in Wilds!!
Oh yeah that's for sure
I would highly advise trying to learn charge blade if you like versatility in your moveset. it's the swiss army knife of monster hunter. it's really not as complex as people make it out to be.
also, giant exploding buzzsaw-axe.
I agree. I was put off because everyone says that it's the most complicated weapon but it's really not that complicated and I fell in love with CB
All the different inputs are what makes it quite.....odd to play with in the beginning. Once you get used to it....buzzsawing time
@@lop1652 once you can feel the f l o w there's nothing that can stop you

@@Kelm_Kisaragi You should try them. CBs are great. They also can kind of do everything, even KO (not as good as hammer, of course).
As an MH fan since 2013, I am so f-ing happy to see new players discover the game. While I may not like the improvements World and the following titles made, they made it possible for new players to enjoy the game and that makes it worth it for me. Obviously I am overjoyed whenever a 5th fleeter tries out an older game, but that is not required. Please stay around, spread the word of the games and just have fun!
quite literally the same boat I was in a few months ago
I was a hardcore soulsborne vet and thought MH was mid.
Tried it and threw souls+ER to the wayside
MH's satisfaction and gameplay is another level
Cool video, can't wait to see the next one on iceborn 🙌💜
bro acclimated so quickly ya love to see it
World is the monster hunter game that allowed so many people to experience the previously niche titles of Monster Hunter, I’m always enjoying seeing how people experience Monster Hunter for the first time as I had
Great video dude.
in the past I never thought about buying monster hunter world, but I have a friend who put 700h in the game. My friend always asked me to play the game, but I never had interest, but then I gave a chance and played (with Iceborne) the game for the first time, 1-30 hours I was not so much into it, but then things started to seem to flow better, my gameplay seemed to be better and everything seemed more fun, that was because I had gotten better at the game, so that's when I got so hooked that I played 220 hours in 1 month, I love MHW!
(also, I just noticed that you didn't pick the buffs with the insect glaive, at least pick the red one, it will give you different moves when airborne)
Veteran Hunter here, 2004 onwards. Welcome to the Hunt! Respect for not cheating with the special armour at the start and Massive Respect for maiming IG as a newbie!
While I wouldn't call Defender cheating, it's absolutely not for a person's first time through. Like with being carried by 3 others on SOS, you gain bad habits and don't develop skills needed to take you through endgame.
That being said, I'm sure both you and I enjoyed having Defender as an option when doing a quick run-through to get to Iceborne if you did a second playthrough.
im 23 now and i play MH since im 7. MH is maybe the best game series ever, it was always incredible, always huge games, always insane polished games. The worlds of these titles make you addicted af, these games never disapointed, not even one of those titles. The way that gem from my Childhood evolved is insane and i love it...
things you can skip:
eating animation at canteen, just hit x or circle

most of the cutscenes as well, with x or circle
Welcome to the hunt brother! And yeah, MH is one of the inspirations for DS, to the point i like to say that if you like DS you'll prolly like MH too XD
The one advice I wish I got when I started MH: Keep your eyes on the monster at all times rather than your character; and refrain from attacking at all to simply practice evasion & learn the motions.
One of us! One of us! One of us! YAY!
for a seasonal player that have been playing MH since 2008, this video is very refreshing for me that feel stuck after fatalis quest is over...
God thinking of older games drop rates and how good the grind is now. I get mantles and gems accidentally but you’d have to cut a tail and only have like a 1-3% on tail carve for some items in older games 😭
Make sure to use the slinger shot to throw monsters against wall for free knock downs. Also, Stagger resistance is all but mandatory for those who are fighting with high commitment weapons. True the best policy is simply not to get hit, but if you do, it would be awful for that hit to stagger you, and then transition into you getting carted. Better safe then sorry I say.
dawg my first monster hunter was 4u. my buddy boosted me through a decent low rank armor set that had high defense and health boost, then said goodluck and went to buy milk.
10/10 experience, I eventually learned what armor skills were even!
I've only played Rise and just got World. I was a IG user in Rise, anyone got a reccomendation for a new weapon for variety in World?
Try Charge Blade!
Something I love about the MHW comunity is that any new player is always welcome and the only advice most people try to give you at the start is to not use the efender gear. Otherwise they tell you to explore the game yourself and just do what you think you'll enjoy. And the reason why they tell you to not use the defender gear is because it makes the base game trivial and you dont realy learn anything using it. Everyone is incredibly helpfull and always there to help new players.
tried this game for the first time few years ago and hated it with passion... gave it another chance last November and safe to say right now I have full Fatalis set with 360+ hours in the game, capcom got my soul
This is very common with a Lot of hunters hating it in the Start and then comes this one Moment were everything works and you are officialy a fan

Respect brother for not using the defender set. I would highly recommend not using that set unless you're a veteran and just wanna speed through base world. Also, thank you for mentioning that MH isn't just about button mashing and as an IG main always have your red buff with you. Don't leave home without it. Lol also, create openings by doing aerial attacks or mounts then go ham on the head with ur punishing ground attacks. With the buffs - collect the red then the white to up your damage and movement speed - once the gauges start flashing collect the orange buff to refresh all three buffs. Oh and don't forget to feed your kinsect too with slinger ammo so you can access the bonus buffs depending on the weapon ur using.
Tail cuts are so satisfying
Hm.. Learn the weapon! Better on UA-cam guide! It's not DS or Elder ring where you can take any weapon and just hit and dodge :)) In WH every weapon have a lot of hidding mechanics. For exmpl. Insect Glaive one of the best, but if you do not buff your insect, not collect extracts from monsters (which is you never do on the video), this weapon sucks.
finally u choose an honorable game welcome.between us HUNTER BROTHER
video was great! not sure if anyone has said this but I find the best build for a lot of monsters is raw damage builds(for longsword, hammer, great sword) but again this is only my opinion. hope it helps if you every try those weapons
This is true for most of the weapons. I think only CB, Dual Blades and Bow are good for elemental build, otherwise just go raw.
Might be a little too little too late, judging from some of the footage, but if you use some of those handy dandy dung piles sittin' around. You can use them to make monsters making your hunt difficult run away.

As someone who even now plays MHW by F*ing around and fighting out I respect you.
Not using the defender set as a new player is very respectable.
I started with MH Rise. I tried a free demo and hated it. It was confusing, difficult, clunky, and I had no idea what to do.
Last year after finishing Tears of the Kingdom I was looking for another game and saw some UA-cam videos about Monster Hunter and it looked so cool.
Since then I have put 200 hours into Rise and another Hundred hours across World and 3U….it’s so good and a lot of people bounce off of it on their first go. I highly recommend watching a bit of gameplay from someone experienced to see what is possible.
And then watch guides on your weapon of choice 😊
Wait this is the game where i can hunt monsters?? Thats crazy! I never knew that!
yeah! no worries tho, i got you. now you know
My favorite thing of MHW (and MH in general) aside from the hunt itself is the... world. It feels so real, and every single hunt is always different from the other. What do you mean an even bigger monster can steal my hunt? And what do you mean a huge pickle is going to kill me by smashing a great jagras in their bite to my face? It has such an 'alive' environement where I can see myself believing that this world truly is natural and liveable
Somewhat experienced player here, my build is not optimized at all and I still enjoy the game.
No defender armor, respect brother
Watching him play the insect glaive without the buffs hurts :( great video tho!

Exactly. It still pissed me off when people call this "clunky."

Wow. A souls player who didn't immediately go for the biggest weapons and stick with it because that's how you play a souls like.
The difference between Monster Hunter grind and grind from other games, is that the grind in Monster Hunter has a straightforward and concise grind; You grind materials from monster A so you can go hunt monster B, simple, and the game is about hunting anyways, each hunt feels different even if you're hunting the same monster every time. Other games on the other hand have grind for the sake of wasting time or making progression a chore to urge players towards microtransactions, a thing Monster Hunter doesn't have, and thus has no reason to pressure the player...
Great way to put it. 100% agree
Grinding in MHW is different.. you actually having fun and before you know it youve already spent hundred of hours lol.
The combat is also very satisfying specially when you land those hits.. CAPCOM is known for producing action packed games, and I'm looking forward for their upcoming titles like DD2 and MH Wilds.

I have a big problem with monster hunter. Is that it set the bar really high for any action game or action RPG.
Souls Players 🤝 MH Players:
Enjoying some of the best bosses ever cooked in gaming history
I used to not like MHw that much when first playing it, main reason was i could never really get behind the combat. And not seeing a massive health bar when hunting monsters was a really big turn-off for me. During this time i was also playing ER and I just found it to be a more satisfying experience. But sooner or later I had to play again bc my friend gifted me the Iceborne DLC, and wdyk. Soon enough after a couple more hours I was hooked? my first weapon was the dual blades, But after trying out GS I was reminded of the typical combat I was used to In ER, and lets just say a hundred hours later. I now mainly use the chargeblade and now doing master hunter difficulty rank. It really does get better the more you play it. And this is coming from a guy who usually only pays soulsborne games. Try it and your life will not be the same.

Funnily enough, I found greatsword to be less punishing than many other weapons because of it's hit and run gameplay combined with tackling. Once you get used to it you can really never go back to most other weapons.
The food skill activation for what I've seen, is completely random UNLESS you use gourmet voucher, in which you and the hunters in your session will be able to eat for free and will trigger all three skills guaranteed.
to summarize mhw, is like elden ring, but you don't take fall damage, you can mount monsters and you can only use 14 weapons.
Just watched this and anjanath will forever be onionath so thx for that lol
I learnt my mistake stoooooooop
Please consider giving a chance to Warframe, insane grind with lots of microtransactions, but lately they've been making it easier for new people to get to endgame. Also the most satisfying thing in the game is finishing a build you grindred hours to get, much like in monster hunter. It doesn't make a difference, but i've played warframe for over 1000 hours now and mhw for about 230.
