This is one of the best games I’ve ever played. The artistic and environmental design, story, combat and boss fights are all top-notch. A hugely underrated game if you ask me.
This game really did stand the test of time, and looks phenomenal especially when held against games with much bigger budgets like God Of War, or Shadow Of Mordor.
In my case, I was a Castlevania fan before the LoS series but unlike others like me, I actually loved the LoS series even more than the older Castlevanias. The story is so much more complex, it explains how Dracula came to be (with real depth), how he acquired such great power and how he's still God's vassal on Earth; Gabriel the archangel.
Beast of a game still holds it's graphics appeal 13 years later specially when played in 4k 60 fps 75" HDR TV for the glorious viewing. Everything is perfect in this game from story, dialogue, cut-scene, sound effects, environment and combat. So many bosses too that will take your time worth of playing it on weekends after work. Truly a masterpiece of an old game.
I know this sounds a bit weird, but just look at the way Gabriel gets the power of the lords of shadow. it's almost like each of them has their own personality. 41:24 the Dark Gauntlet: when comparing it to the black knight, it is said that it needs evil spirits to live (compare it to the darkness inside Gabriel + monsters he kills), so he goes to him quickly in order to be fed. (this sounds stupid, but the rest makes a bit more sense.) 52:00 the Cyclone Boots: the information about it says that it was once made for just movement, but it was eventually made in a way by Cornell that it destroys enemies when he rushes past them (comparable to the way it went towards Gabriel). 1:24:26 the Seraph Shoulders: it is said that they were once able to fly almost anywhere, but the dark magic of when Carmilla turned into a lord of shadow and misuse, it weakened up so much to only a portion of it's true power. compare that to the way it went towards Gabriel and it can be seen that it goes towards him in a weakened state. I just find it enjoyable to notice.
As someone who basically grew up on Castlevania (38 now), I honestly loved the LoS saga. I agree/admit that they weren’t the best and that there were flaws here and there, but I still don’t care what anyone, much less critics say. The whole story and atmosphere had me hooked. Not since Symphony of the Night have I been interested in Castlevania games.
Recently played through this game again for the first time in like 10 years. It's still just as beautiful and cinematic as I remembered. I just wish they would release a version with the camera unlocked.
I've always enjoyed the first game of Castlevania Lords of Shadow so much.. the boss battles were so much fun and challenging too i do love the storytelling of the game as well. I never got enough of it..
This one still holds a special place in my heart. The music. The spectacular art and detail on the creatures and structures. Still blows my mind that mathafackin Satan is the final boss. And what a trip that ending. Thanks for the vid man.
One of the most underrated game ever. Also one of the best game I've ever played which includes the all of the DLC and the sequel Lord of Shadow 2. I suggest you guys should try playing this game. It was worth it💯👌🏼👌🏼
I only just now realized after rewatching carmilla's fight, you're in the room where the mirror of fate resides, and I have no idea how I missed that detail
Well when you play the game for the first time and when it was released the 3DS Mirror of Fate game had not existed so in turn the Mirror of Fate was also not a thing. So you'd be excused there. However if in Mirror of Fate if you did not recognize the room then yes poor attention to detail.
46:20 really cool story. Out of all the LoS he appeared to be the least evil. Perhaps it’s only for the sake of his survival, but perhaps the wolf’s sense of loyalty compels him to protect his “brother.” He does speak highly of him, accepting that he is superior.
God, I love the Golem’s body expressions and how well done they are. At first it’s shock seeing the dagger in the girl’s chest, realization and shock that it’s one of Gabriel’s own daggers, and finally the blind rage that leads to the fight. Just so well done.
Part 2 WAS good gameplay-wise. The Dark Pan bossfight with it's insane twist how to cross the fallen leaves was top-notch. Also you can switch off the fucking QTE in 2nd part which is huge thing for me. Main problem of 2nd part is weak storyline and absence of twists. Still, personally I prefer 2 part over the 1st.
The 2nd had so much potential, but instead it lacks a lot of content when you look at the 1st. To me, LoS2 could have been a lot better if they didn't do the "time skip" thing and focused the game at the present days. What could have been better was to keep the game focused on the Templar Attack intro, and keep going on from that moment. Wandering the castle of Dracula at the peak of its glory, killing all types of knights, priests, peasants ecc... Rescuing your allies, helping the random creatures in the Castle and assembling a dark army to storm the church\launch a counterattack to the ones who dared attack your home. That would have been cool as fuck honestly.
the combat in 2 was too difficult. the block button didn´t really had a purpose, when almost all enemy attacks are unblockable. but still it was a fun game imo.
Seriously wtf happened to these kind of boss fights, gameplay and storytelling? No wonder people are running towards elden ring and souls games when they stopped making these masterpieces

If this is a GOW clone then by that logic any early 2000s hack and slash style game with long combos and QTEs is a GOW clone. Ninja Garden, Devil May Cry, Dante’s Inferno, Darksiders, Bayonnetta, Prince of Persia, The Force Unleashed, etc. It seems gamers are ever more intent on criticizing good games and ruining everyone’s fun instead of enjoying a good game for what it is.

I feel like it's unfair to compare this to SOTN, they are two totally different games. Would love a remaster of this one. Also While I think Carmilla's model/appearance looked better in the second game, her character here is better, more seductive and very sensual, but also vain and selfish. Her personality seemed to fit a Lord of Shadow. I'm not sure why they changed her for LOS 2.
