A 100 years old Legacy: Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee - Food Stories
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- Bak Chor Mee was founded by Mr Chen Lian Fu in the 1920s, served on a 2-basket-hawker. It has then became a significant meal choice for majority of the Singapore population. Growing up as a descendant of an almost 100 years old hawker trade, Jie Wei abandoned his corporate career to continue the legacy of Mr Chen Lian Fu, serving delicious soup and dry based Bak Chor Mee. Little did we know that most of the soup based Bak Chor Mee was descended from the same ""hero"".

This whole family is so adorable, i hope their business continues to grow and prosper!
Great episode...the young stall owner is highly believable and im very impressed. Hope to visit the stall soon.
I grew up in bedok. My mum grew up in Chai Chee and once worked for the orginal founder of this BCM stall. Ate my first bowl of BCM more than 35 years ago and if u grew up in Bedok, nobody sold dry versions. To us BCM is a soup dish. It was only in the 90s that dry BCM became popular.
Same 40 years ago i had this in Chai Chee market and one in Jalan Tua Kong coffee shop name "Xiao Er Da", it is superb. But now the standard of the so call BCM has dipped alot. The one in Bedok, changed the mee to a thicker version and the whole taste is totally different.
Love how passionate he is to continue the legasy. no matter how hard it is to be a hawker💪💪
So happy to see another youngster willing to continue their family business in hwaker center.
I miss the 85 BCM but i stay too far so rarely got to try this version. Look forward to try this stall soon.
Similar bcm, but dumplings instead of meatballs. Just as delicious, one of the few bcm that getting soup is a must
Full support for you and your business
Proud of you!! Props for taking of your family business! Definitely will be going there and giving it a try!
Growing up back then, there was no BCM dried version. The influence of certain flavors from China changed the BCM profile to the dried version and vinegar was also added to it.
Hope there are more soupy BCM in the western part of Singapore. Most of these delicious dish is sold near bedok area.
他的汤头是我喝过最好 最顺口的。以前住新加坡时候一个星期可以吃好几天 真的很好很好吃
The western food and chicken rice stall next to it is pretty good too!
Well done I say! A passion to continue in his GGGrandfather’s footsteps, a degree in finance and banking will be a great opportunity to start on his own entrepreneurship for BCM across SG. Being your own boss 👍 way to go !
A bedok resident once told me that bedok people only eat at 511 while the rest of Sg goes to 85. Tried both if u like wow factor, long long time then eat once then go for 85 and if u wanna eat it on a daily basis, go for 511.
Good video, educating and full of inspiration...
Lagi sedap! Moi gonna bring my familia down for a feast! Bon appetit!
longing to try Chai Chee Bak Chor Mee in traditional style
Keep it up! I plan to visit your stall and try it!
I didn't know of this outlet. Only ate at Bedok 85 as I used to stay there when I was young. Had never ever tried dry version coz the soup one is delicious enough. May I know if all 3 stalls in bedok belong from the same ancestor? The third one Ah Poh at Bedok 85 as well as the stall at Chinatown with open space seating?
I miss having the bcm with wanton rather than the pork balls.
Since i started work at ubi at 2008, my colleague intro me this stall till now (2021), still loving it. DIE~DiE~ also must try~ any chances if i passby, i sure will eat.
We need this in malaysia i didnt know what was bak chor mee until i saw this
If you stay in JB I can recommend u my favourite BCM... One of the first few things I will eat in JB once they open that little bridge ...so near yet so far
I used to eat at the lucky plaza branch but a... They have moved
i always wondered why bedok has so many soup bcm, so this is why. btw 85 bcm is not even close to the best :p
This eunos one is different, i feel it is so much more flavourful.
Eunos one has a very similar taste to Blk 58. Both taste great.
@@yinghaotan6044 Great taste! One of our producers love 58 too! Eunos one is famous for the plentiful amount of lard! 🤤
i used to eat 85 bcm only but once i tried 58, i never went back to 85.
Will go n try on, hopefully it is better than 58 hawker bcm
Shit, bro, I'm in my year 4 PhD now, how am I gonna tell my mom that I'm gonna stop working in the science industry after I've earned my PhD? >_
If you ever decide to do hawker and serve something yummy, we can tell your special story!
graduates in singapore sold the vision since primary 1 that education will give them a decent life.. obviously now it is not the case
Of course there are exceptions but I believe most NUS grads like this young man here, make a decent living. Even in this case here, he was making a decent living and decided to continue his family business. Same applies to SMU or NTU grads as well.
@@GabrielTan1980 hahah higher pay? in comparison to what? U can say a graduate getting 2600 is higher than a poly grad getting 2100, but did it justify the efforts and the hoops that each graduate had to go through?
@@geeeforce starting pay is just one small component of the AVERAGE lifetime earning potential of an average uni vs average poly grad. Nothing wrong if one chooses to go to poly instead of uni, but stating that higher education has no tangible earning benefits for the average graduate is factually wrong. Studies show that on average, college graduates make 30-70% more lifetime earnings than non-graduates. You are entitled to your own opinions but not to your own facts.
@@GabrielTan1980 which Singaporean study can u quote?
@@geeeforce Median salary of a uni vs poly grad in SG is $3,500 vs $2,000. (pay.sgcharts.com/). Your opinion is that higher education has negligible impact on lifetime earnings. Therefore, I can’t use facts to argue with your opinion. All the best to you.
Sethlui gives a different coverage, he gets to know the pax / soul / history behind the food.
Ok i’m visiting your stall soon! Yummmyyy!!
Bro if you rmb me i patronize almost everyday at your stall in lucky plaza. If you're still there do let me know
GET A FREEHOLD HOME....GOOD LUCK....HAWKERS UNITED.....
GOOD AND AFFORDABLE FOOD FOR THE CITIZENS....THANK YOU🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I am a big fan of Bedok 85's, can anyone tell me if this is better? Would love to try it.
The soup is good, comparable to Bedok BCM. If only they replace the dumplings with pork balls. Anyway it's still a good bowl of noodles and reasonably priced. 🤤
Mum is so beautiful
office jobs are more toxic
agree toxic. and unproductive. everyday u see drama served hot or cold. when shit hits the fan, everyone pointing fingers.. eventually someone's head drop, company suffer loss.. and the the whole vicious cycle goes on and on.

True. It like adults are still kids, tired of that kind of environment
Working as low skilled operator who need to achieve high amount of production target every day is also taxing my mental health.
best bak chor me in sg and polite friendly staff, food is consistent, only thing thy close early, wish thy would be open until late
Cute and nice kid ! Could be my son.
I thought the original eunos one now is at Serangoon Garden? i remember the uncle used to flip the bowl when he cooks the noodles.
Bro, you make the right choice at least u have some handskills to survive on & progress with what you think is right.. in another 5 to 10 yrs time in fact now many have the same calibre as you but are struggling badly, so what you have good uni cert & want to have a good jobs.. but in reality.. is always different..
My favourite BCM ! Will always have room for them when I am around the area. Sibeh hoh chak👍
Make BCM great again! Wish you boombastic success total sell out and listed in SGX one day!
You can order small bowl. Of course finished.
I watched this while eating it. Haha
If the assistants could cook the noodles a few more seconds and the noodles are not too hard, it would be perfect.
You can request for this by telling him you would like your noodle to be softer..
孺子可教也,加油
This particular store was previously occupied by 2 twin uncles, also selling BCM. All related?
I'm curious as well.
I ate BCM 20 to 30 years ago.
I think there was 2 men there.
The two uncles are now selling the same BCM at Lorong ah soo market 2nd floor. I manage to locate them a year ago
Madness
His great grandfather is not even 100 years old!
👍
He looks too studious to be a hawker.
Overrated! No meat balls, instead fish balls which does not go well. Lard not fresh, ortherwise tase ok!
Bedok 85 one is better
Singapore is zero-rated alcatraz-atlantis. Baked till dry and sink. You believe.?
Singapore pissed-off hokkien
I thought this stall was ran by 2 eldery men earlier. I always patronize them. Only see the current family on weekends.
新加坡华人还记得祖先来自中国???
The proof is in the eating
Nothing great. Overrated. After taste of msg.
Why all this so called educated singaporeans going into the hawker trade after their parents spend lots of money sending them to universities , doesnt make sense....every video i see interviewing these individuals, they will always boast first that they are doctors, engineers , ceo or whatever, like they are afraid people do not know they used to be "highflyers" ... i was wondering if because they cant make in the coporate world and use these " to continue and save the family hawker legacy" as an excuse.
Not nice at all. Waste of money..really disappointed with the quality.
Agreed...diluted soup
