Thanks Dave, excellent! Your all-system approach is smart and saves your ass in the long run. I guess that's why I've always loved refrigeration, so much interaction within the system.
Keep the most excellent videos coming!

Great job Dave. You said it right, if you want to go home early everyday do not get into refrigeration, you never know when you will have an emergency call like this one. Refrigeration life 👍👍👍

8:50 I respect you being straight up honest about this. Yeah, we're *never* _supposed_ to do it, and in most cases there's no reason to not do it the right way. But that doesn't mean it doesn't still happen; no matter how professional or experienced the person is, there's nobody on this earth who's never ever even once in their life violated some sort of safety protocol. Like the timeless proverb goes, "Do as I say, not as I do."

Nice work Dave. Bonus that there was stairs to the second floor, I did a similar job a few months back but I had to rope the compressor, tools, and gasses 16 feet straight up through the roof hatch, which really sucked balls... I literally had to sit down for 5 minutes after I got everything up on the roof. The back of the building was a gravel alley though, I just threw the old compressor off the roof (after brazing the ports of course). Also, if I come across a system without a disconnect I just put one in without asking and hide it in the bill - I got a nasty 230 volt shock once working on a system without a disconnect so IDGAF about adding one in without asking - safer for me and any other techs working on these units. Thanks for the video!

You seem to think HVAC guys get off when they like to. I've been at this 49 years and can tell you half of my time was always 10-16 hour days- many times till the early am hours. I did refrigeration and it was the same. When you get more into this field, you'll realize that!
    Good job by the way!

I keep some metal clad two pole light switches for systems like that, wire them in the control circuit and you can at least shut the thing off to do mechanical repairs.
Years ago did my back in lifting 4hp semi copeland onto the unit which was on a platform, got stuck bent over like my back bones got out of alignment, had to lie down in the cow shit curl up into a ball the unroll to get back working again, and then finish the job! Drivers seat in the van looked like the Turin Shroud!

Us old hvac techs would NEVER even dream of pulling the contactor coil wire to kill power. Wink wink nod nod say no more. Nice vids. Last week I changed out a scroll 5 hp and Cond motor on that same unit in Ohio. Easier if you pop the top off the unit. 6 screws. Save your back.

Should move torch away from where you are brazing ( Good practice ) also should consider having a fire extinguisher at arms reach just as a safety issue ( Good practice too ) Not sure you checked temperature on compressor as to say that compressor needed to be cool down before considering replacing it. Thanks for the well explained video!
