3 sharks are overkill. Mark and Lori are enough to blow this up. He should have cut Rohan out of the deal and countered at 200k for 20% with just Mark and Lori.
@@ryant1648 Honestly that's brilliant! I always think on the entrepeneurs perspective and I would have jumped at that offer but didn't think about this, and this was definitely the shout.
Update for the people on this. They ended up being integrated into the Alexa. The 2 years following this episode they made 3.9million in sales and are still continuously making atleast 1mil in sales a year

That's a huge market to penetrate with an innovative new product that could potentially change people's habits of learning, communicate, for better quality of life improvement.
once the three sharks teamed up i thought they were gonna absolutely bend him over but their offer was actually very reasonable out the gate.
I was stunned, that’s a phenomenal deal. 85% with 1 shark is worth way less than 70% with 3.
I think the three sharks got a great bargain out of this. $100,000 each that could potentially worth 1-2m by the time they exit. If not more.
300k for 30% for 3 sharks is such a no brainer.

This is probably the smoothest pitch I've seen lol, I don't know what the actual 1 hour pitch was but it seems there weren't many sweaty questions, they were really impressed by the product and he got 3 sharks. I wonder if Kevin was here, he would've gone for royalty deal XD

Went to a small business meeting at NASA in 2015 (not sure when this episode aired), and they were throwing around an identical device for people in the audience to ask questions. It was so much easier and more effective (and more fun!) then standing in line waiting for a microphone.

I knew that they wanted 10% each before they even said it. You can hear Lori say "He'll have to accept it" in the huddle. Solid pitch, and solid offer from the sharks. No theatrics, straight business.
Ya see if he came in focusing on schools, business meetings, and everything else, they would have thought he was all over the place with no real marketing plan though

The company is doing very well and growing.
You can't beat getting "Three Sharks what a great deal.
That's honestly so stupidly good. In high-school I would have absolutely been down for this.
I'm a high school language teacher (teach Spanish and French) and this is such an awesome device. Definitely gonna snag one for my classroom.
3 sharks knew that this product will also be a great corporate meeting tools and even to travelers, friends&family road trips, personal use at home etc
Audio professional here. This has been invented already and is currently used in classrooms, boardrooms, universities etc. it’s called the Catchbox and it is a cube shape version and customers love it. It is a bit more expensive however it is much higher quality.

If it’s round and the person you throw it to doesn’t catch it, it’ll roll away. If it’s square and you drop it, it won’t roll. It’ll just stay where it lands.

i could see this encouraging kids to interact a lot more! i know i definitely would think that’s so cool when i was in school and i was already pretty interactive in class growing up.
He wanted 200k for 15%, that's like 300k for 22.5%... he got 300k and three sharks (!!!) for 30%, that's a very generous offer on their part.

We use a product like this in our university classes in South Africa. When you have a few hundred people in class you can't reasonably be close enough to hear everyone in class and usually only the lecturer has a mic clipped on.

Its not the EASIEST product to understand (actually it is really easy) but the smoothness of the pitch is amazing. He sold it really easy.
I feel like he should’ve negotiated the dollar amount not the equity. I 100% feel like he could’ve walked way with $400k for 30%.
