A charge of 60 miles in an hour is slow but without people like them, innovation would never happen.
Its more for an emergency situation like your in the middle of the desert or on a stretch of road far away from a charging station. Its a AAA for electric cars
60 miles in a hour is actually not bad at all and you can stack them to reduce time they said. I really want some a EV offroad/ kinda truck and this would totally remove my anxiety of being in the middle of no where with one.
Sure, but its better than having nothing when the next charging station is miles away.
It is but in the long run they have the patent, and they can license the product out when they become even bigger which I believe it'll happen, and they'll also improve the capability of it. I believe Mark invested more because electric cars are the future, kind of like when the internet first came out, now people can't breathe without it. Everyone is gambling on the future. Like you said innovation.

No chance. I own a Tesla and there is really no reason for this product. It only charges @ 60 miles in an hour. I literally can't think of a scenario where I would want or need this.

Like 5-10 years down the road, when so many more people will have electric cars than even now, I can definitely see tons of people needing this, and seeing the reason in making it leasable (if it breaks, you got no idea how to fix it, and buying a new one would be expensive, so it would be so much easier to just exchange it. Same thing people do with phones nowadays

Reading that you’ll eventually die from it makes me so sad :( currently a very close friend of mine basically my brother was diagnosed with cancer and is just starting his first couple rounds of chemo. EV stations are the problem that my semi truck driver friend in Houston is concerned about in purchasing an electric truck. This is one solution but the charge time is still way too slow.

As a matter of fact, Rolls Royces and Bentleys would flourish as electric cars. The batteries would help with a quiet ride, they're powerful and keeping the costs down is not an issue for luxury cars.

Not really. Since tesla can just roll out an update not allowing third party chargers to work on their cars, so this way tesla owners will be forced to buy chargers from them only.
@@TheXXBLahBLahBLahxX that's not going to happen because people home charge, and Teslas need to be able to charge any and everywhere. I don't like this business because there is zero barrier to entry. I could create a similar business tomorrow and sell chargers to Uber and Lyft drivers.

better to have a gas generator charging it so it charges faster and doesn't take up as much room

Wow. This is definitely one of the more interesting episode. The two founders/co-founders were well spoken but it's clear they're more of an engineer than a business man.
This was definitely a good business with a lot of growth potential but I can also see where Kevin is coming from. Leasing these batteries is so risky especially when you're trying to scale it.

One of the reasons that I'm hesitant to buy an electric car is the fear of not finding a place to charge in time while traveling.
Clever Idea, not only helping the environment but the manufacturers selling electric vehicles boost sales.

This was exactly the reason I didn't want a tesla at first because I was scared I would have to find a station but now with a power pack to go with it I'm 100% on board with it now once they make a consumer product I'm definitely getting one

@@Lukas-tw3ke I think the timing is a bit wonky. This was a couple years ago if I’m not mistaken and if we take out time now for example, gas is going up and electric vehicles are selling like crazy. Almost every car brand is moving towards that area. I think they can get a consumer product, I’m just not sure if it would sold at a justifiable price point.

And u ve 2 remember, the majority of ev-drivers make shure 2 not run out of battery. The goal is always to sell the small company with the technology to the big company. Big company’s would much rather buy a brand rather than invest the money to research something themselves because they get an external( now internal )client base as well
Many big companies such as smartphones companies like Apple, Samsung, etc. They all sell their own charger for their devices. But, still many people across the world buy another charge outside from those companies. So, it doesn't necessarily means they will go out of business right?

I think creating a portable battery bank that you can put either in the front trunk or in the back trunk of the vehicle would be great. this way no one will be without juice for their vehicle. I'm just surprised that no one has developed a foldable solar panel that you can put on the roof of your vehicle so you're vehicle can charge wirelessly while you're working or at home. Then whenever you're ready to go somewhere you can just fold it and put it in your trunk and go.

I think it’s a great idea with the lease model. They make the money back in a year. They just need more money to scale out bigger. But it also depends on how often cars really run out of battery on the road. Depends how much triple aaa and other towing companies are willing to pay vs just towing the car themselves to an electric charging station.
The consumer product is what can bring this company to the moon.

The longevity in a portable charger is uncertain if wireless charging is proven to be safe and commercially scalable. But, that will probably take several years or even decades.
Even wireless charging this will still be in need if the internet goes out.

This is actually a smart idea. Maybe. Not for the us market but internationally. Tesla and other electric vehicles are being imported as of this moment to various countries and so far there is only a limited amount of charging areas outside of houses. This could play a major role for those areas/countries.

It's not just the media that celebrates raising money. I've many times seen the Sharks say congratulations for raising a lot of money.
They will face stiff competition with Tesla. There may be a lithium shortage-- there are conflicting reports. I think hybrids are a better option than fully electric vehicles.
They found the biggest lithium deposit of around 244 million tons in Mexico last year and they are developing a mine right now. I’m not sure if that’s a lot when added to the rest of the worlds in Bolivia and Chile and the US. China and Russia are very interested in it so I’m guessing it’s a lot.
Lithium was vital in Z Nation.
There isn't a lithium shortage. Their is a lithium mining shortage. Earth has tons of Lithium. Its just that the mining companies aren't growing as fast as the battery industry needs them to grow. This is why Tesla signed a huge deal with a Lithium mine in NC to majorly expand their operation and Tesla is starting their own mine in Utah. If the mining industry isn't doing it, Tesla will just do it themselves.
@@jpriley100 I mean I’m not very informed on the subject. I know China makes Tesla batteries and China is helping Mexico with the mine development. I know the US has the second biggest deposit in Nevada. I also know mining lithium is very bad for the environment.
New battery tech is using graphene now.
I have to think the industry, which has had a decade to observe with the Prius, etc., has had something to do this same task. One software solution is to change the range of the EV. Instead of stating the remaining range, state say 90% with a 10% residual only to be used to get home. The early VW Beetles had this, a secondary fuel tank.

That is betting that tech won't come in which is better...a huge gamble.
Highly doubt it but anything is possible. Battery technology is advancing so rapidly and big players like Tesla, Porsche, then the rest of the EV market will offer increasing range, better access, etc. Research “towing and regenerative braking”. You can tow an EV for 15 minutes and up the regen braking…since the vehicle is being towed it will charge its battery and give you the supply of a supercharger. People are going to move faster than these guys. Their concept will work for the next few years then become obsolete. I’m guessing there will be 1000 mile range and charging that’s faster than today’s superchargers in the next 5-10 years. Once Tesla releases that info (always ahead of time) it will change the market for these things.
