The reality that over 70% of France capitulated and lived under a Vichy government working hand in hand with the Germans always gets glossed over. As does the fact the French police arrested more Jews than the Gestapo did in Occupied France. Most of France went untouched by war.

Hitler ordered Paris to be razed to the ground when the allies came closer. Luckily, this order was not carried out since the german city commander deemed this pointless (plus he actually liked the city).

You should better tone down on that one, considering how your ancestors “helped” the Poles during the Warsaw uprising. Concerning the French, two of my ancestors were in the Resistance, and I can tell you they were not quite supportive with the nazis or even waiting “how things are going to unfold”. And btw, in this modern age, it’s not us who have a paramilitary group named Wagner, and an organisation that’s disturbingly called “Africa Corps”.

German infantry look pitiful compared to how they would have actually attacked. German infantry were better trained and taught to think on the fly in small units with plenty of squad tactics to do fire and maneuver operations. While city fighting is always atrocious the Germans would have used machine gun fire before the had infantry charge across open roads and alley ways…

Not really. The Germans mostly had one big advantage: they were the first attackers. So they could benefit from the element of surprise and act quickly (blitzkrieg). Don't forget that Hitler prepared his war during 6 years. He was able to borrow a lot of money to finance the rearmament of the german army and he promissed to pay back....which he of course never did.

Apparently, quite a lot of people hereunder ignore the reality of the June landing. USUK forces were trapped inside the Cotentin area more that 70 days from june until early august due to fierce german resistance. German tanks in the south of France( Provence-Toulon-Marseille) started to move north to push back the allied in normandy. A normal one week trip (800km) made impossible by sabotages and ambushes organized by 40.000 french fighters of the french resistance -(FFI).Recently discovered archives show that Paris was not to be liberated by the allied forces but let be destroyed by the germans, like Varsovie in Poland. It was the paris people insurrection starting around august 15-1944 which led the french forces (Gal Leclerc) to disobey US orders and move west towards Paris instead of initial US plan to move north along the coast towards Antwerpen. This was to save the people of Paris who could not wait any longer, french forces made the big run towards Paris and moved in on August 22-23-24.

A good well edited clip. The line-up of men running up the stairs certainly makes for an impressive sight. The military can instil discipline in a young man, but unfortunately it sometimes comes at the price of lobotomizing their analytic thinking skills. Obviously, the command to change direction never made it up the stairs on time (likely because the senior officers were hiding at the back of the troops). And so at 1:34 the young trooper in the lead who, seeing bullets impact the wall that was his only source of protection, hesitates, then grips his teeth and like a dumb bull heading to the slaughter, runs out across a fully exposed plaza only to eat lead half way across and die a smartly uniformed death. At 1:42 the viewer watches a line-up of nazis run out from behind the wall knowing (not without a certain satisfaction, given what we know about how evil a regime they were) that in seconds they will join their leader in certain death. At 1:46, one of them lying dying on his back manages to get one shot off in the right general direction before he marches off to hell. Finally at 1:49, faced with overwhelming slaughter, one of them finally calls a halt to their gauntlet of death. At 2:03, the camera swings to an impressive top view of 4 manspreading corpses and a 5th in the throes of death. At 2:27 a rear seat passenger with arms thrown back does a slow-mo drop to death, his helmet nicely shined, while his soul slips from his warm corpse down into hell, and his back seat buddy falls into permanent sleep with his head thrown back. I'm surprised that the two soldiers manning the tank, manage to escape at 2:38 without taking a bullet in the belly or before the tank explodes. One has to wonder what kind of reception they will get wandering the streets of Paris where a resistance fighter waits beyond every corner and in every dormer mansard window. Unfortunately it looks as thought the freedom fighter at 4:45 has taken a direct hit to his heart. "A doctor before he dies" won't do him much good. The Molotov cocktail at 5:28 certainly seems to be an effective way of sealing (or should I say "searing") off escape for the tank man turning his fate into something like roast nazi beef. War is horrible for the men involved and as the world continues to demonstrate to this day, thousands of young men in the prime of their lives die in the service of leaders with monstrous egos.

With France accepting a lot of internal conflicts, corruption and senseless immigrants, there will soon be a major civil war.
