Terrific advice for anyone looking to mod their cars - Ford or otherwise. Figure out your ultimate _performance_ goal for the car before you start modding, and then plan/budget accordingly. I have plenty of customers that spend way too much money on retuning because they either can't wait to do all the mods at once or they keep changing their goal. If they just took Alex's advice, they'd spend less money and be happier. Of course, for most that requires saving money for a little longer and waiting to get mods done - that's a real hard thing for some people to do.

I guess people forget that alot full blown race cars started out as a regular car and was progressively modded to what it is currently, not to many people have 100k to throw at a build, but over 2 to 5 years they can make the car what they want. Will they spend more that way? Sure but they will learn and have fun doing it progressively. Look at Rob Dahm, he's been working on the 4 rotor for over 10 years. It's all about doing thing when you want and when you can afford to.

@@csr801996 Not really what Alex was talking about here. Whether its $3k invested in a I/H/E NA setup or $10k in a boosted stock motor build, if you're paying people to mod/tune your car, planning ahead is a great way to ensure satisfaction and best bang for the buck. If you want to do most of it yourself and learn from all your mistakes along the way, then the Rob Dahm approach is fine - but long, slow and expensive - and about 1% of the market. Most guys just want to go fast and have fun for a good price - one reason why companies like Lund exist.

What I noticed in the trans was my first gear at stock calibration at max rpm went 24 mph but when lund extended the rpm it goes 35 or so lol really pushed that gear out! my car does 0 to 60 in the 3 sec range on street and does 1.8 60' ! I think its good to grow with the car as your budget allows. It also lets you get familiar with more hp without going crazy. I have a 19gt mt proharger stg2 i ran it on a 4.75 on 91 made 7psi, was fun. About a year later i made the switch to e85 and turned the boost up with a 4.0 then a 3.75 pulley (16psi) i knew i wanted big boy power but i didnt want it all at once. Also doing it that way let the bank account recover. Fuel system/wheels/prochager/headers ran around 18 to 20k in parts with me installing everything

I got a Lund tune for 10r80 performance and my power adder was E85. I already know there just isn't much left on the table for a stock vehicle on oem parts. I graduated from a Mazdaspeed 3 that I tuned myself with an accessport and accesstuner to make my own maps, making more power on a modern FI 4 cylinder is easy that has electronic boost control until IAT's become a problem.

My plan was to spend the least amount out n/a power as possible while still making a little more than stock power so I threw a boss manifold, cold air(the one you hate) offroad x pipe and a tune. That's it until I can afford boost. I may throw injectors and an e85 tune on it but it's honestly plenty fast for where I live. Not a lot of fast cars here.

Hi Alex, great video with alot of good info. I've always explain to people so many times that you should work on suspension, weight saving and a good tire setup first. I do have a question about the 10r80 which my car has. I'm starting to get the random harsh shifting shifting that a lot of people tend to get with the 10-speed. I have done the disconnecting of the battery to reset the PCM and TCM. Seems to fix the issue for around first 500 mi. Then it reverts back. I have read on mustang 6G forms people using forscan to clear the adaptive learning tables and with the new forescan update you can actually turn off completely the adaptive learning tables. Everyone I've seen that's done this. It fixes the issue and everyone seems to be amazed on how great it shifts. Do you recommend this as a good idea if I turned the adaptive learning tables off and do you think this could possibly void your warranty or cause damage to the transmission

Fairly new to tuning only on my third mustang with a tune. I had a 2017 Ecoboost with Cobb Stage 1 and the switched over to PD tuning. I found car basically the same with both tunes. PD was a little more fine tuned. Since I did not want anything but 93 pump gas and stock turbo really limited me. In my personal opinion I found the tune just enhanced what was really already there from factory. Took out some of the limiter’s that Ford installed from factory.

Looking to go with an ESS G3 eventually. Would it be good to get it tuned now, install the intake and throttle body, get a revision, and then revision again when the boost comes? Or just wait for the boost. This would be a roll race and weekend car. BTW, thanks for the informative videos like this. The guidance is always appreciated.

Or had them ported so now engine peaky and has very very narrow power band. My brother asked me to help me with engine for his 85 buick back then. Took 305 short block, 350 truck head, 1966 327 vett cam, performer intake and 600 cfm holley. Smacking the crap out of 350 Z28 especially light to light. No way that 305 it can't be LOL. OMG , I used to argue with my son and his box tune he paid to have a shop install. He swore his cai and the tune was making 30-50 more rwhp. I kept saying that is NOT the case. He swore because a shop installed the tune on his programmer that it made it a custom tune. I repeatedly argued if your not logging and a tuner is tweaking it and it came on a store bought tuner it isn't custom. He swore the almost $300 he pd to have the shop install his tuner tue was custom. Soo I proved my point by adding a ported manifold, pmas, e85, 3" open flow master exhaust and a custom tune that has been logged and then tweaked by my tuner , that his ice cream dreams were just dreams. We ran a 1/8th and by 300' I had to literally stop and wait on him to catch up. He looked and sounded great though......Thank you for putting some facts and common-sense explanation vids bruh!

I bought a tune because I put long tubes and a warm air on a gen 2 F150 - which is speed density. Otherwise, I probably would've left it on the normal tune.

My dad has an 11 gt500 with a Ford racing Whipple supercharger package on it. Do you think that car would benefit any from a tune from Lund? He's talked about getting it tuned and I gave him a smaller pulley for it for Christmas one year but he hasn't pulled the trigger on a tune yet.

  • @dparis1768
    @dparis1768 Рік тому

The advantage of a tune is having proper fueling. Factory tune seems to run lean at tip-in. And then torque management is another issue stealing performance. My journey started with a whipple tune on a gt350. The tune was terrible! Lots of knock, the fueling didn't really start until 90 percent throttle. Stupid! The Lund Tune has proper fueling and I dont have to worry about the knock. Save yourself a headache and get a Lund Tune.

I have a stock 2020 mustang gt 10r80 that I want to do some mods to. I would love to have around 550-600 horse power some day just for fun. My goal is just faster acceleration and a louder exhaust. Not sure if this can be achieved for under 10K though.

      Coyote mustang.
      Sell yours.
      Buy a coyote
Headers, E85 and a boss intake or 18 manifold.
3v are just not it for anything decently powerful.

That's why I like a my 2023 GT six speed. I CONTROL the shifts. If I had an Auto I would have to tune in order to change the shift point. OR, shift manual and maybe take the auto out. I had a friend who took the "auto" out of his Caddy and blew the motor. I like to run on the highway and go distance. I'm fixing to upgrade my suspension. I'm 61 and I'm done with stop light to stop light or drag. I just want to enjoy the car and the drive before I hit the casket. Racing stop light to stop light, racing on an unprepped surface? You get to the casket faster and might take someone else with you.
At the same time I say this, I don't want to be a stupid Boomer, I understand the stop light to stop light and all that. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy your time while you got it. That's the main things. Life is short live it as you see fit. I love heading out on the long Texas highways and just letting the Horse run. There are a lot of lone places here Texas that one can do that. I'm lucky enough to live in rural Texas. Farm to market roads are all over the place. My Mustang begs to be let loose. I love driving. It's the DRIVE, the wind with windows down, dual exhaust playing the music. Yeah, it's all about Freedom and the moment for me.
