Kaladin and Shallan's interactions are great all around, but when he realizes that she's as broken as he is but can still be happy, followed by the chasmfiend, her revealing her shardblade, and then they manage to kill the chasmfiend and survive the highstorm is probably the best.
@@lamediamond4172 tbh i find them very intriguing together but I also wouldn't mind if Brandon introduces a new character. I'm not a huge fan of romance but reading what kaladin feels about it just makes my heart ache, at this point it's not about the romance but about the characters. Just it shouldn't take away from the characters and their plot. The chasm scene BTW is ✨️😖
My most favourite scene in wot of kings is so underrated. It's the scene where adolin walks out of the winery, sees sadeas camp and feels angry. It just tells soooo much with soooo little
I loved that scene too because it was like, finally Kaladin gets a completely joyful, nice moment and he actually appreciates it and doesn't fret. As a reader I really appreciated that break in his gloom. A reminder that his personality, like everyone's, is multifaceted.
Shallan inspiring the deserters to defend the caravan, and the man she sketched clutching that image of his noble self in his death, is the scene that hit me the hardest and that I remember the most clearly
My favorite scene is the flashback with young Shallan, broken but still trying her hardest to give light to her brothers, setting up a date for balat, math problems for wikim, wanting so badly the happy life she thought she would have and admitting it The WIt. I cried at her grief and light at the same time.
Adolins duel where he has to go up against 4 shardbearers and then renarin and Kaladin join in to help is my favourite. Whenever kaladin gets to show off a bit and destroy people is my favourite thing in these books. He is so humble and tends to not do that alot.
That moment when he crashes down into the ground, having just saved Dalinar and declared that he owns the skies made me just pause and have to fangirl out to all my friends that had been telling me to read the series.
The mentality in these scenes is so underated for real. I also really love Shallon's reaction upon hearing that Kal killed her brother. Its was so painful for us the reader and she's desperatly telling herlself "don'tthinkaboutit don'tthinkaboutit don'tthinkaboutit"
The POV switching is really cool in the the audiobook, cause Michael Kramer reads the chapters with male POV and Kate Reading reads the one with female POV. Even when Kaladin and Shallan are talking to each other, the narrator stays whoever the chapter narrator is. But this chapter, they constantly switch off. It really feels like a dialogue and you get these characters coming to their independent conclusions of “Amaram killed Helaran” and “I want Amaram dead even if it’s not the honorable thing to do.”
The scene where Kaladin says to Szeth 'the knight radiants have returned, and they're going to kill your ass' I'm not sure those were the exact words but man I love this scene
I can't even choose a favorite scene, but it's definitely not that one, nor the duel with Adolin and Kaladin. The scene I always think of first, is the one where Kal and Shallan meet for the first time, and she makes him hand over his boots. I know it's not super dramatic or deep, but it's what I think of, okay!? Also, the battle where Kal "kills" Szeth was so satisfying! Also, Sadeas' epically anticlimactic death. XD And, of course, when Syl freaks out and says "the one who hates" has come. I genuinely thought she was referring to Odium. Then it turned out to just be Szeth. (Dunno if this was because I'd previously heard vague spoilers about Odium's existence, or if he'd already been mentioned at this point.)
I thought that part WAS also refering to the others because that was the same storm in which Eshonay becomes the first fused and brings back the listener gods. Also Syl had been worried about the void sprend for a while before that.
My favorite scene in the SAs is when Navani sees Dalinar standing up against Odium and she is just laughing in pure joy. With how over the top so many female characters are written, I love to see Navani being just a normal honest woman.
That scene is excellent, sure, but I get legitimately PUMPED THE FUCK UP during that giant, dramatic final battle scene with the island-size boulders in the sky!!!!!!
The assassin in white seems unstoppable, he's snapped Adolin's wrist and put him out of commission, he's picked Dalinar up and casually drops him to what we presume is his death. But what is that flying ahead of the storm, is that a cremling, is that a windspren, is that a skyeel (of course not), it turns out it is this man who has answered an important question about himself, he has re-affirmed his value system. He is glowing with the confidence, conviction, strength and the stormlight of having done so. He arrives to protect those who cannot protect themselves, he arrives to save his lord from certain death. He is hope, he is the one sliver of hope when everything seems lost. He is Kaladin Stormblessed.
Just found your channel and loving it! My favorite scene in the entire Stormlight Archive is when Kaladin goes to the Honor Chasm and gives him the leaves. The pure innocence and love that saved Kaladin's life at his lowest moment makes me emotional every time.
Well said. It's the same for me, to be honest. It felt like seeing a puppy come to nuzzle your hand while you state down the barrel. The only thing that could turn someone away from that edge is pure innocence - and it gets me every time.
For me, nothing will top when Syl gets Kaladin to go back to the Tower for Dalinar. At that moment, Dalinar believes that "Act with honor and honor will aid you" was a lie. But a literal Honorspren sent a figure out of legend to aid him.
For me, the best chapter was the first Kaladin Szeth battle. The buildup to that moment where Kaladin and Shallans spren were being frantic leading up to Szeths arrival was just perfect use of anticipation (helped that I was listening when there was a thunderstorm outside)
Although it is multiple chapters and scenes, I think the part with Kaladin and Shallan alone in the chasms is the my favorite. It really feels like the culmination of literally 1800 pages spent with these two (mostly) apart. It's one of the best things I've read in all of fiction. the moment when Kal realizes that Shallan is broken, yet still smiles... the implication that he is falling in love with her... the way they start to joke more and more as it goes on... it's so good.
My favourite chapter was actually one of the interludes, specifically the one that followed Taravangian. It made a lot of connections while also creating intrigue with the Diagram. It also cemented Taravangian as one of the best characters in the series imo
YES! I love this chapter! I drew a fanart of the scene of Kal on top of the spire- the pure feeling of exhiliration as he's soaring and he's /smiling/ for real for one of the first times in the series- it hits you, man.
I remember when I was reading this scene how intense it was. The jumping back and forth really increased the anticipation. Halfway through I thought, “Something big is about to happen.”
I really really really really enjoyed the scene with Kaladin and Shallan in the chasms, they shared super intimate moments and revealed some very personal things to each other and wow I absolutely ship them. I have not read book 3 yet but I hope something happens between them LOL Sanderson isn't a romance author but damn, he could have fooled me.
I remember. I don’t know if the scene was particularly well written in terms of snobby scene crafting but the constant p.o.v change was certainly exhilarating
I like how Kaladin puts his ability. He doesn't "fly" he falls in crazy directions ahaha. Finished the second book last night. Waiting for oathbringer to come. Your videos along with Michael knipps got me to pull the trigger and read this series. Thanks man
Oh no I completely forgot about this chapter. For me this is probably number 3. Behind only the death of sadeas and Kaladin getting his powers back just in time. Damn I loved that scene so much
I saw the thumbnail of this video before reading the book. And when I read this chapter I thought “this must be the scene that the UA-cam guy means”. Is just so different, exiting and fun to read.
Shallan instinctively trying to cheer kaladin up and make him smile in the chasms was so touching. Especially after her backstory where she kept trying to make everyone smile as her way of quietly resisting her situation. I understand the love for kaladin but to me, shallan, in this book especially was sandersons best work.
Brandon is converting me, damn it. I´m an atheist, ex christian for decades and oathbringer made me cry like a child with themes like salvation, humbleness, accepting your pain... holy shit.
This was a great chapter, great breakdown, I can’t wait to do a reread of WoR! Can’t tell you my favorite scene cause it’s spoilers for you, but I’ll go with the one you faked us out with at the beginning of the video 👍🏻
There was this relatively trivial moment during Kaladin's flying, when he soars up into the sky and grasp a view of the shattered plains. Kladin sees... "a pattern." Kaladin's chapter suddenly overlapping with Shallan's worldview slapped me so hard that it trapped me in this brief moment that really doesn't mean anything by itself. Kinda weird that it stays alongside with all the wonderful moments in the book, but I decided to keep it there anyway.
My favourite scene is the duel because usually i zone out during fight/battle/war scenes, no matter how hard i try i cannot pay attention be it film, book, audiobooks. But there are scenes, few and special, where i am 100% there, and that duel is one of those scenes, and i remember just stopping in one spot on my walk home while listening to this scene, it was so very special. And while there were a few other fight scenes in stormlight that i was into, that one stands out the most. And how i cringed when Kaladin highjacked the boon.
Yeah same. I have such a hard time visualizing such things, and I realized as I was reading that the color-coding of the Plate made it WAY easier to follow along in my head. When I know that X is orange and Y is blue, as opposed to just generic gray or whatnot, I can much more vividly conjure what's going on and follow people's movements. Simple, understated, hugely effective bit of writing there that helps those of us with that problem.
I always liked Shallan's speech to the deserters, and after the battle when she finds the scrawled up portrait she drew of Bluth the mercenary in military uniform: "What separates the heroes from the villains? One speech in the night?" Bluth wasn’t the only casualty of the assault; Vathah had lost seven soldiers. They had killed over twice that many bandits. Exhausted, Shallan rose, but hesitated as she saw something poking out of Bluth’s jacket. She leaned down and pushed the jacket open. There, stuffed in his pocket, was her picture of him. The one that depicted him not as he was, but as she imagined he might once have been. A soldier in an army, in a crisp uniform. Eyes forward, rather than looking down all the time. A hero. When had he taken it from her sketchbook? She slipped it free and folded it, flattening the wrinkles. “I was wrong,” she whispered. “You were a fine way to restart my collection, Bluth. Fight well for the Almighty in your sleep, bold one.”
My fav scene was probably the one where Kal and Shallan escaped the chasms. Only took around 2000 pages before we got a real conversation out of our two main characters. Journey before destination.
I remember reading that scene with a song from Divinity Original Sin 2 called Reapers Coast and man that was just amazing I could feel the wind while Kaladin was flying.
There’s a scene (I believe it’s in Oathbringer?) where Bridge 4 is training in their training area and eventually some confrontation evolves into a group therapy session where a lot of men open up emotionally and I listened to it twice during my first round of the book. Or maybe that was my Stormlight book club idk.
Dalinar holding his own against Szeth is an amazing scene. No powers. No stormlight. Just an incredible warrior using every bit of his skill against a man he has no business fighting in the first place
My favorite is the duel with adolin and the 5 knights and kaladin, both lines their are powerful the “they fear you boy show them why” and “honor is dead but I’ll see what I can do”
My favorite few chapters was Shallan and Kaladin spending time in the Chasms. Their first real time together was perfect and dealing with the Chasm Fiend together without Stormlight. It was such a cool couple of chapters for them.
we've been sleeping on into the skyyyy, that chapter was sick and i low key forgot about it (how dare i) and as a basic gal imma have to go with the duel as my fave scene
Words of Radiance is for me without a doubt the best experience of media consumption I've ever had, Oathbringer and Rhythm of War are still amazing but man Words of Radiance was just something else.
My go to for WoR is him saying the words - I've tried to storyboard that but my drawing can't do it justice ;-; It'll be one I'll retry in the future though cause it's the most hype I've gotten reading something
Elhokar breaking down in front of Kaladin was probably my favourite scene. I was so annoyed with Elhokar after everything he had done before, culminating in how he threw Kaladin in prison, but that conversation made all that annoyance fade away. You really come to empathise with him at the same time as Kaladin.
I don't think it's an accident that Shilan (I listened to it, I don't know how tf to spell these names...) "learns" who killed her brother at the same time Kalidan is trying to immitate the assassin in white
My favourite scene is the book is "Honour is dead but I will see what I can do" holy shit that scene is good... But I must tip my hat to the 3 scenes where Szeth shows up... both the times to kill Dalinar and to Terravangian. The tension of those scenes whenever the POV character realise that "oh shit its HIM" as if the grim reaper itself has showed up at their doorstep is just incredible!
I absolutely ADORE Words of Radiance. So far, it is my favorite book out of all of Stormlight. And while there are so many epic scenes (some of the best in fantasy, IMO), Kaladin, Dalinar, and Adolin vs Szeth is one of my absolute favorite parts (maybe tied with Kaladin getting his powers back). It is definitely my absolute favorite fight scene in ALL of fantasy (amazing as the Arena is).
The book is amazing, it is hard to tell a a favourite scene. I will choose my favourite scene based on my ability in that specific moment to picturit in my mind: My favourite from Words of Radiance is when Kaladin was fighting Szeth and Syl was helping him, transforming from a shield to a blade to a spear to a blade again. I was vizualizing it in my mind so well that i dreamed Syl was MY spreen and was doing so (thanks to Shallan's drawings lol). However my favourite scene from Book 1 and 2 is still when Kaladin first made his Oaths and led the Bridgmen to save Dalinar in the Tower. So many amazing moments, and most of all, a story so well constructed that it seems almost unfair to point out one moment in particular.
Adolin’s first duel where he didn’t conform to any stance and just went fully barbaric was pretty awesome
I was always so nervous in each Adolin's duel lol
“It was time for a beating” was absolutely brilliant
I believe even then he did use stances. Stoneform and fireform in Quick succession

Yeah prolly one of my favorite too, I also really thought romantic developments between the two were gonna happen.
That scene was amazing to read to me because it hit a cord with my own problems.
@@lamediamond4172 i was actually hoping for it but.....anyways
@@pranjanarahangdale9629 I mean who wasn’t thinking at least that’s the direction it was going
It just tells soooo much with soooo little
that's a great moment
I dont know about anyone else but I teared up and got chills reading Dalinars speech when about to fight the Parshendi.
Yes! I don't think we understood how or what she'd done at the time, and I hope we'll see even more of this in coming volumes!
My favorite scene involves in the whole series involves Shallan singing a lullaby, it just hits me.
that shit was dark
I just want to give shallan a hug man, god that backstory was a tough read
My favorite scene is the flashback with young Shallan, broken but still trying her hardest to give light to her brothers, setting up a date for balat, math problems for wikim, wanting so badly the happy life she thought she would have and admitting it The WIt. I cried at her grief and light at the same time.
I loved this part because it gave meaning to her goofy sense of humor and made her seem like a much deeper character
@@Exploshiyeah and then she instinctively did the same thing with kaladin in the chasms
my personal favorite is when he reaches the third ideal with defending the king, because of the emotions of it
This scene is done amazingly in the audiobooks. Michael Kramer made me start crying for Kaladin when I first heard this (and every time since).
Reading that chapter was like watching an MCU movie in my mind. Really mad how underrated this chapter is though
I think he says “smoke your ass” but yeah more or less
I can't even choose a favorite scene, but it's definitely not that one, nor the duel with Adolin and Kaladin.
The scene I always think of first, is the one where Kal and Shallan meet for the first time, and she makes him hand over his boots. I know it's not super dramatic or deep, but it's what I think of, okay!?
Also, the battle where Kal "kills" Szeth was so satisfying!
Also, Sadeas' epically anticlimactic death. XD
And, of course, when Syl freaks out and says "the one who hates" has come.
And she does that silly accent. I listened to the audiobook so that made me laugh.
The collision course this chapter sets up between the leads created a moment of beautiful tension. We'll chosen 👍
Thanks! It's a perfect balancing act, I think
For me, nothing will top when Syl gets Kaladin to go back to the Tower for Dalinar.
At that moment, Dalinar believes that "Act with honor and honor will aid you" was a lie. But a literal Honorspren sent a figure out of legend to aid him.
Best line in the Stormlight Archive?
"Journey before destination... You bastard."
For me, the best chapter was the first Kaladin Szeth battle. The buildup to that moment where Kaladin and Shallans spren were being frantic leading up to Szeths arrival was just perfect use of anticipation (helped that I was listening when there was a thunderstorm outside)
That realization that I’m basic in my favorite moments being Kaladin speaking his oaths:
those are also one of my favorites, and actually less common than people saying the duel
This was my favorite chapter in the whole book, how it read like a training montage was sooooooo good!
Even Rocky had a montage.
WoR was my favorite book so far of the four. So much character development. It’s incredible
Came to watch your other videos after the Kaladin sitcom one, great job with the video, I'll be rereading this chapter!
Damn I loved that scene so much
2:40 I thought you called Veil as Shallan's fursona, lol.
There is no scene more iconic than Shallan asking Adolin what he does when he needs to poop.
Brandon is converting me, damn it. I´m an atheist, ex christian for decades and oathbringer made me cry like a child with themes like salvation, humbleness, accepting your pain... holy shit.
"The knights radiant have returned" was so beyond awesome.
"They're scared of you. Do you see it in them? Show them why."
This was a great chapter, great breakdown, I can’t wait to do a reread of WoR!
Can’t tell you my favorite scene cause it’s spoilers for you, but I’ll go with the one you faked us out with at the beginning of the video 👍🏻
Thanks! Haha, and thanks for no spoilers! When I finish Oathbringer that favorite scene may change of course
I just finished Oathbringer and you just KNOW it's gonna be an amazing chapter when it has multiple pov.
There was this relatively trivial moment during Kaladin's flying, when he soars up into the sky and grasp a view of the shattered plains. Kladin sees... "a pattern."
Kaladin's chapter suddenly overlapping with Shallan's worldview slapped me so hard that it trapped me in this brief moment that really doesn't mean anything by itself.
Kinda weird that it stays alongside with all the wonderful moments in the book, but I decided to keep it there anyway.
WoR has been my favorite in the series so far
Same! It has such a good pace
I always liked Shallan's speech to the deserters, and after the battle when she finds the scrawled up portrait she drew of Bluth the mercenary in military uniform:
"What separates the heroes from the villains? One speech in the night?"
Bluth wasn’t the only casualty of the assault; Vathah had lost seven soldiers.
And that other one and that other one - yeah there are a lot of good scenes
"I wish more chapters were written with that interchange."
Wind and Truth: 😎
okay but whitespine uncaged is goated lmao
My fav scene was probably the one where Kal and Shallan escaped the chasms. Only took around 2000 pages before we got a real conversation out of our two main characters. Journey before destination.
The fact that you read the mass market paperback is insane. That’s a lot of pages in such a small space
I remember reading that scene with a song from Divinity Original Sin 2 called Reapers Coast and man that was just amazing I could feel the wind while Kaladin was flying.
I know this is an old video but my favourite chapter is in rhythm of war. It is interlude 10 Hasina.
I remember reading this chapter. This was the chapter that felt the most cinematic book scene i have ever read in any book
Your videos are fire like always!!
Thanks!!
In the last 100 pages i literally had like 30 OH MY GOD YES moments
There’s a scene (I believe it’s in Oathbringer?) where Bridge 4 is training in their training area and eventually some confrontation evolves into a group therapy session where a lot of men open up emotionally and I listened to it twice during my first round of the book.
Or maybe that was my Stormlight book club idk.
AnD fOr mY bOon!
Kaladin and Hoid Chapter, the song ❤️
"all your blades are wrong... All but mine. Pattern!"
Yeah, this chapter stood out to me as I was reading it more than any other.
Dalinar holding his own against Szeth is an amazing scene. No powers. No stormlight. Just an incredible warrior using every bit of his skill against a man he has no business fighting in the first place
Came here for a mene, went out with amazing insights!
It's a great scene, too! I was seriously sweating after that scene, lol
Words of Radiance is for me without a doubt the best experience of media consumption I've ever had, Oathbringer and Rhythm of War are still amazing but man Words of Radiance was just something else.
Another awesome video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
interestingly mine is when Lopens arn grows back. it just gave me chills. It was the moment the knew now will start the real deal
This scene felt very familiar to the Flight scene in Man of Steel. I read the scene again with Hans Zimmers score playing in my mind.
You claim to be a fan of the Stormlight Archives and a good Vorin man, yet you read the books instead of having them read to you. Interesting.
It’s one of those storming glyph books that’s not what glyphs are meant for
Just going to take a minute to appreciate you pronouncing it
“Ah-dolin” and not “Ay-dolin” like so many UA-camrs do.
Best scene in the entire Cosmere:
"And for my boon..."
And you actually forgot the entire chasm part between Shallan and Kaladin. Amazing book.
You sent him to the sky to die, assassin. But the skies and the winds are mine, I claim them as I now claim your life!!!!!
I'm sorry, but the scene where Dalinar is digging a latrine ditch with a warhammer is actually the best.
