- Today is our first day exploring the country of The Philippines and where better to start than the capital city of Manila.
Let me share with you all my first impressions of Manila by exploring the old quarter where the Spanish built many famous and historical buildings and where I believe the best atmosphere in the city lives.
Then we head over to the BGC (a new area of the city), check out the American War Cemetery, and finish up with a VERY unique dining experience.

because most local vloggers only speak filipino. that by itself stops english and non-english speaking countries from watching. one more thing i noticed is that they trust people that comes from their own country than people whos native there. e.i. brits watch brits, americans watch americans.. you get the point

I am actually going on 2-week trip to Philippines in 4 weeks' time so I am happy to that I can experience it a bit ahead of time by watching your videos. In fact, I´ve been following your channel for a bit over a year now and your videos helped me a lot to plan my last year's 4-week trip around Thailand furthermore I took 3 weeks in Vietnam. I really loved this first episode. I loved simply walking through the town, connecting with the locals, I loved the song, I loved that you go for out of the comfortzone experience, I loved that singing waiters restaurant. You made me want to fly to Philippines now! And I know that this is just the beginning.
When you showed shots of the city, and sunset etc. I felt like your shots were so warm and magical but the music felt more cold and unpersonal. But of course it's just my personal opinion. Looking forward to your next episode.

The best of the Philippines is the very friendly, kind, and helpful locals and the gorgeous beaches. Unfortunately, I visited when Covid became a problem so had to curtail my trip, hope to come back one day.

I can second that. As someone who was just there for a month I can honestly say that there is literally nothing in the Philippines that isnt just much better someplace else. Its not exactly cheap, the food is soso but almost always chines or Italian. The beaches are nicer in mexico or thailand and way nicer in bali, I can wholeheartedly say skip the philippiens and go to most any other tropical place. My only exception is if you are an avid diver, the diving in moalboal and pangloa, are nice from what I heard from people as I didnt personally do any diving.

Paddy mate this ain't you. I've been watching you since the beginning of Paddy Doyle and you've been nothing but legendary but this vlog isn't you atall. I unfortunately got 10minutes in and couldn't watch anymore from a silly arcade theme to your singing seems more of a joke than a travel vlog. Love Manila. There used to be a somewhat controversial fella by the name of Carlos Celdran who did awesome historical tours of Intramuros, sadly he passed away. His tours were really immersive and entertaining, which you would've loved Paddy.

Any Red Planet, Hop Inn and Go Hotels are all well run clean budget chains, located in Manila and other large cities that are fine for short stays! Never had any issues with any of them myself!

Phillipines is au pair with Thailand when it comes to beaches and friendliness of the people. The only thing they dont have is the food that I love about Thailand. I also believe there is less corruption in the ranks of governement workers.

I would also like to suggest to vlog the reality of the people of Northern Luzon which are the Cordilerans or the so called Igorots. Most people do not know who they are and brand them differently. I think your vlog is the best.

Actually yes you are in the Manila proper or shall we say the "OLD MANILA" that's why you see Museums, the Spanish Fortress "Intramuros" or Walled City also the Oldest ChinaTown in the world... FYI: There is also "METRO MANILA" which consists of 17cities including Manila. The METRO MANILA is what we now called the MODERN MANILA like BGC, MAKATI, ORTIGAS, QUEZON CITY(currently the Richest and Biggest City), EASTWOOD CITY and so on... I can add some more info but i hope this will enlighten a bit some of our foreigners who want to visit our country Philippines!!! >>> P.S. And for your convenience "YES" MOST OF US FILIPINOS UNDERSTAND AND SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH! YEY!!! Very impressive content specially your editing when you started to sing, nice voice too!!! That song is from a filipino band BAMBOO and the song title is MASAYA in english which means "HAPPY or FUN." The song tells about Love... how it is Fun and happy at first... just like drugs... the first time you take it... the first high... that's why the song is sad and melancholic.... because according to the song...that is just how love is... at the beginning is fun... then you feel sad, cold and empty in the end. :(

Hi Mr. Doyle,I am glad,you made it to the Philippines, I am happy you finally feel the difference of my native land compared to the other ASEAN country, do you know that, Philippines is the only Christian country in Asia, and the the most speaking English country in Asia, Philippines has the most white sand bar , and the most green mountains and the bluest oceans, and I know you like scuba diving I want you to try to dive Tubbataha reef, it’s a marine sanctuary and famous for its marine life, and a UNESCO conservatory,also try APO reef,Mindoro, and more,I am very proud to be a Pilipino but I been away for so long, but been following of what is going on as of now, I am working in USA, as a nurse,married to a hondsome American, have children, and following your vlog, “GOD” bless you.

If you do return and get to spend a few more days in Manila, check out the other old part of the city just north of Intramuros, the Binondo/Quiapo area, hosting the Chinatown, Manila's largest street market, other good churches and old architecture from the Spanish and American colonial eras, and more history. Much more hectic than Intramuros though. You also didn't check out the San Agustin Church, whose cloisters host a museum by the Augustinians on Catholicism in the Philippines (very biased but remains very informative for newcomers). Also, the museum you entered is a museum complex, the National Museum of the Filipino People, the anthropological museum, is just opposite across the park, and would have been the better one for history haha. The National Gallery of Art is further north, very few foreigners visit because most foreigners don't really know that we have a very lively art scene here.
There are also several good daytrips around the area that's perfect for motorbike lovers haha. Tagaytay and Taal Volcano, the coves in Nasugbu, mountains and karsts to the east in Rizal, craft towns and waterfalls in Laguna, the historical town of Taal, red hot dive/snorkel hotspot in Anilao (sigh, the word has gotten out among the intl diving community). Pinatubo (volcanic scenery) and Olongapo (healthy monsoon forests and nearby untouristed beaches) are a bit more distant to the north.
Most visitors usually just see Manila as the business districts of Makati and Taguig to the southeast. Their loss.
The words were also floating around many many years ago not to visit Manila but I really can't see why. It looks like a great place to stop over before heading out.....

just a short thought...the BGC was designed to be a world class city but just failed to consider one thing, the accommodations of its workers....that workers should not need to travel back and forth, day in day out for long distances...contributing to the traffic jam...that is why you saw on its outskirts are the houses catering for rooms, we call it, bed spaces or boarding houses...given that, there is a new city being built now in Pampanga...call it the Green city...it is now designed to be the greenest and the most advanced city in PH...promoting sustainability, green initiatives, and future ready...would you try taking a look on it in your future travels...?
