  • This Clear Ballistics Gel that I will be using for expansion tests meets the FBI ballistics testing protocol. This amazing material is completely synthetic and reusable by melting and remolding. It can be stored at room temperature and won't rot or become unstable.
    Due to info requests here is the manufacturers information:
    I purchased it from Clear Ballistics. Their website is www.clearballistics.com

    Sniper Block (two FBI blocks)

    This is the same gel we use on our channel. It's a great product and very reliable. A few tips from our experiences:
    1. Cut the block up as small as you can. It really cuts down on the melting time.
    2. Get an sharp knife when trying to remove the blocks after molding. The vacuum formed by the mold makes it incredibly difficult to get out.
    3. DO NOT put the oven over 270. The block will begin to yellow.
    I hope these help ya junker! Good luck with your testing!

    Well, it's not bad once you consider the fact it is reusable. Plus, these are BIG blocks. Remember someone had to engineer this stuff, they have to have a facility to make it, buy ingredients, they are a small business and need to pay employees, marketing, etc. It's expensive to do all that, which has to be figured into the price of the product.

    I didn't know that is synthetic and completely reusable before see this video. Thanks a lot. I'll tell this thing to my friend, he always use yellow-and-nonclear normal ballistics gelatine

    I would like to see the "Sniper Pack" tested a 1000 yards with a .338 Lapua Magnum. I'd like to see the terminal ballistics of a 300 grain projectile at that range.

    Yes, most definitely. I'm working on acquiring a full size household oven for my garage. I currently use a toaster oven for bullet related things. Time to upgrade because somehow I don't think my wife would like what I'm "cooking."

    Well, to be perfectly honest... it takes a LOT of time for me to create a video, not only finding time to shoot the footage (which is hard to find a time window + good weather, etc.) but then it takes me many hours per video to edit. So now I have the raw footage, I can edit up and publish them in my spare time.

    Yeah I will. I started with 7.62x39 because it is lower power and I wanted to learn what to expect from the gel.

    Great video. I've been using Clear Ballistics Gel for over a year, and love it. Just a couple of tips. Remelting at a lower temperature for a longer period, while less convenient, will forestal the eventual yellowing of the gel. Second. Once the gel is completely melted, turn of the heat, but leave the block in the oven. This will allow the bubbles to rise and produce a clear block. Finally, a regular hair dryer will be much more suited for block polishing then the torch.

    Not worried about the chrono, keeping the computer unit below the edge of the table and using disposable dowels for the skyscreen supports would be reasonably safe except against curveballs. I was thinking about this too.

    Awesome. Between you and tnoudoors there is so much useful data on the net now about ammo choices and their characteristics. Have you ever thought of contacting him and getting some pointers on ballistics gel? You should get him to partner up with you for content on your website. You both do a real professional and entertaining job. Keep up the good work.

    mainejunker, Thanks soooo much for testing brown & silver bear HP and SP ammo! It's the most affordable ammo that I can find, but up till now, I don't know if anyone has ever posted a test of how they expand! Really, *really* looking forward to seeing your results!

    I think it would pass right through. The Chinese API 7.62x39 detonates when it hits heavy steel but will pass through 1/4" steel and impact wood and concrete without detonation. Now maybe shove a slab of steel into the gel? Not anytime soon. :)

    it's 128$. I could make bigger blocks for less than 30$. they won't be clear and won't be non sticky but they will get the job done.

    • @Cupillac
      @Cupillac 7 років тому +1

      true but you can reuse these blocks up to 10 times before they even become cloudy and not clear so that is about $12 a block.

    How are you going to go about remolding/recreating the blocks? (are you going to do a video on it?)

  • @MattyDemello
    @MattyDemello 5 років тому

    Why is it that home made Gel blocks will melt on their own if you leave them outside in 80 degree weather when at the range BUT the store bought Gel doesn't melt on its own unless you obviously remold it. Not sure what's different. Seems like the store bought Gel will last longer outside and the home made ones, you have to transport them in a cooler with ice or they'll melt. Not sure why.

    So how do you re-melt it? On the stove, or inside the oven???

  • @bobeddelman
    @bobeddelman 9 років тому

    I recently ordered my first order of this gel, and when I got it, it was indeed very clear. However, after my first melt down, although the gel was very clear while still in the oven, once the gel completely cooled back down to room temp, the entire block turned milky white/cloudy throughout the entire block to such an extent that it would be impossible to see the bullet tracks in the gel, making it useless to me. The main reason I went with this gel was because they advertise it can be re-used several times, but in my case after the first melt down, it's useless due to being too cloudy to see through when it cools down. I melted it at about 240 degrees which is within the range they recommend. I can heat the entire block back up and it goes back to being crystal clear, but as soon as it cools all the way back to room temp, it clouds back up!
    Have you experienced this with this gel?

    • @Cupillac
      @Cupillac 7 років тому

    I have never acquired or used any ballistics gel.
    However, various users & other channels here claim that in hot weather the organic version STINKS REALLY BAD.
    Just like "a bag full of assholes ".
    Does this synthetic stuff have any residual odor?
