    When I finally buy a house, I want to grow lettuce and herbs in the basement. Or in a hydroponic greenhouse. I love the idea of the controlled environment: Just go out and pick whatever you want to eat, and it's perfectly clean already.
    Although I'd still inspect it for bugs, but avoiding having to wash it would be such a blessing.

    • @GavinLee
      @GavinLee 2 місяці тому

      Vegetables grown in controlled environments also need to be cleaned, after all, our space won't be absolutely clean, there will be dust, unless it's a very small area

    we have problem in Indonesia, we are hydroponics farmer, we use pvc pipe for planting and using Deep Flow Technique (DFT) for hydroponics, and the problem is, if we finish harvesting, we have to pull out one by one part of the pipe and the connection to clean the dirt, moss, and algae in it, maybe you can make a video tutorial on how to clean the pvc pipe without having to be opened, yesterday I saw it on youtube, he said to clean the pipe pvc without having to open, is using H2O2 with 30%, but we don't know how to measure and how to mix it, hopefully HYDROPONICSYSTEMS channel can make the video, it will very very help us

    I've built a "Vertical A Frame" Hydroponic System that atm can grow 150 heads of lettuce for example in a 10'x8'x7' space. I decided to go hydroponics vs. aquaponics to bypass the need for fish since I'm a raw vegan/inhumane reasons and also because I discovered the use of diluted sea water to supply the full spectrum of elements to the fruits/veggies for optimal nutrition and low maintenance simplicity. I haven't planted it yet because I'm still trying to find a natural way to control the PH up and down without chemicals and relying on a manufacturer for supply. I don't believe baking soda or vinegar to be very effective long term having to adjust daily. I've thought about using my own blood-plasma filtrate (urine) but my friends and family are turned off by that idea and won't eat them if I do even though I'm the only one who eats raw vegan and doesn't take pharmaceutical drugs... They'll accept fish/unhealthy cow excrement's but not healthy human... smh -_- I'm about to say screw them and just do it anyway. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    • @astrangeone
      @astrangeone 8 років тому +1

      +TheDomHussein I've grown plants with diluted urine and they flourish like crazy...maybe something like seaweed? Kelp is sustainable and you can get it easily at chinese markets.
      I've used baking soda/vinegar in small scale hydroponics. (I'm regrowing some cut spring onions - and they are huge now...)
      I used to have a couple of huge fish tanks that housed koi, and I'm regretting that I got rid of them - aquaponics, man...

      Your ideas are good up to the point where you go off the deep end talking about using human waste as fertilizer. You do a disservice by trying to convince family and friends that this is a better way to eat, then talking about using human waste on your food and wondering why they are grossed out. They wont see human vs cow waste.
      They will just think of you going to the bathroom, collecting waste and pouring it on your food (and naturally be scared to eat anything you grow). Then by extension they will tell others that vegans piss and crap on their food, and scare even more people away from it. That's the OPPOSITE of the effect you want.

      ***** impossible to use organic fert on 600 gallon just not economically wise. you have to use 4x as much besides the word organic is a marketing scam. its all minerals and bisides do you want to eat stuff grown with bat and human shit

    • @mgfons
      @mgfons 9 років тому +2

      Bill Seward I actually used the iguana juice bat guano organic nutrients along with organic Mother Earth Compost tea, and they both worked pretty good for growing lettuce in non-circulating "kratky" style hydroponic set-up. I do prefer Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Grow, which is not certified organic, but derived from guano, and some other shit, but processed so it doesn't have a bad smell. My point was that the title of this video has the word organic in it so it waste people's time who are looking for organic hydroponic nutrients videos. I am going to experiment next with growing lettuce in a fabric grow bag with bottom layer of coconut coir and center layer of high quality organic soil/compost/worm/castings mix... then have it watered hydroponic ebb and flow style with just rain water, and see how that works out (like larry hall's videos).

      of course there is bird poop on organic lettuce, etc, just as there would be any crop grown outdoors. That is why you wash lettuce before you eat it :-)

I am wondering is this a common situation that the leaf vegetable are getting soft and withered after a few days once i harvested various types of crops on my hydroponics system? I used to cut all the root and place them in indoor area with room temperature. The second question is what pre-treatment of the plants you recommend after harvesting. Thank you so much!

    It may be healthy, non toxic or whatever, it's not organic.
    Well, as far as 'organic' means natural (because even highly industrial and chemical agriculture won't produce mineral food -_-)
    Organic as I see it means with pests, soil, dirt, wind and rain. Especially US underestimate the soil importance.
    And I have a high sense of taste and I reaaaaaally can say if a plant is grown on tank water. It gives a swamp / fishy taste... Especially lettuce...
    Good installation, kudos.

    • @Goforth.And.Conquer
      @Goforth.And.Conquer 8 років тому +9

      The term "Organic" refers to the fact that no chemical pesticides are used on the plants at any stage throughout their life cycle. As for the nutrient solution, maybe you should do some research on the science behind hydroponics. What difference does it make if the plants take in nutrient from dirt vs. from the water?
