    just a suggestion..if u had only cut off the tops of the plants and replaced them into the container, then they would have regrown without replanting to give u continuous food as long as u replenished your nutrient solution and ensured that the container was regularly cleaned..it is a common method of continuous harvesting or cut and regrow that i have used for years

      @@Vigilante-k4q u obviously are not speaking from experience..i have done so for years..any leafy green can be plucked or cut and will regrow..that is a fact..i have plants like spinach, silverbeet, bok choy and kale that are more than 5 years old..they are still healthy and productive and they provide me with healthy food..some people cut and return a few weeks later..i prefer to pluck instead..i usually remove the lower outer leaves..that is my usual method..new leaves will develop within a week or two and by then the larger lower leaves are ready to pluck..try it, it works..yes with bok choy!!

    Thank you. Great demonstration that we can all grow garden vegetables at home using very basic items that we may already have. We can grow the appropriate amount for our family need or to share or exchange with friends. You can keep it small, or make it as big and technical as you want. Learn from each other and eat healthier than packaged store bought foods.

      You can re-use the water, but only on other plants (like in your pot plants, or ones you have growing in the ground, etc).
      For the hydroponic setup like this, you should be completely draining the water out and replacing it once a week, replacing it with new liquid food.
      I personally would also add bubbler stones under each plant, to provide oxygen to the roots, as while some plants are fine just growing in water like this, some need more air, or they will drown and die.
      I use the big gold ball bubbler stones. They provide a LOT of bubbles, which is what you want.
      You can absolutely get all of this stuff online if you need to.
      I did. :D

      @TheMurlocKeeper 2 роки тому +3

      With any sort of hydroponic setup like this, you really should be completely changing out the water and adding new solution once a week.
      Especially important for vigorous leaf growth like this stuff. Goes for lettuce too.
      I have a similar setup like this, except I use proper plastic containers, (far more hardy) and I also have a series of golfball bubbler stones, to help provide air to the roots dangling in the water.
      Some plants don't mind just sitting in the water like this, but some will drown and rot if not provided with air to their roots somehow, which is why bubbler stones are important.
      You can get outdoor air pumps with twin outlet valves too. Bit more expensive...but there ya go. :P

      Clean, healthy looking, insect and disease free. No digging, no weeding, independent of the weather/rain no rain etc. Roots very healthy and kept cool in the styrene boxes, usefully reused instead of landfill waste. 👍Greetings from Tasmania Australia 😁👍🦘

      @GordonSeal Рік тому

      Polystyrene / styrofoam is toxic when heated (e.g. in sunlight) or exposed to water over longer periods. Don't do this, use a food grade polymer instead, it's more expensive but you won't poison yourself.

      Since the first commenter didn’t seem to understand your question:
      No pump required with this method. Thats the beauty of it. You can lake this type of set up with what you have available and without needing to power it.

    For the 2nd cycle, do we start from scratch again? I mean from preparing the seed and hydroponic solution.
    Or
    The new cycle don't need the seed anymore as the plant will regrow from the root itself?

    How much did the hydro liquid cost compared to soil and regular fertilizer tho. Also, those plants were pretty small. I like the idea but I think bigger containers needed or can that support a bigger plant? I know hydro is used all over the world. Will those Bok Choy regrow after cutting the top off if you leave the roots in there?

      @TheMurlocKeeper 2 роки тому +5

      It's a special hydroponic solution.
      You can get many different sorts, for different crops/plants, so choose one to suit.
      This one in particular would have been (I hope) specifically for green leafy growth.
      Others are more suited to supporting fruiting and flowering, etc.
      Time to hit up Google if you want more information.
